The lecturer's name is John C. Hamer and he has several lectures on different topics that you will absolutely love and want to watch over and over while taking notes. I have seen several of his lectures and I have learned so much and it has not only increased my knowledge but makes me want to dig deeper and learn even more. I thank him so much for sharing his knowledge with us here on KZread. He has written books, maps and illustrations for books. What an amazing wealth of information.

Try again and if it’s still too low, see if you can turn on “stable volume” in KZread. It’s apparently something that compensates for all the many videos out there where the audio is too low/high. Try on another device (type) if need be.

The problem with Exodus is not the lack of evidence it is the evidence. Apologists have moved the biblical date of the Exodus to 1265 BCE. Why? Hyksos (1550 BCE) Egypt drives Hyksos out of Canaan and vassilized the southern city states. Battle of Mediggo (1457 BCE) Armana Letters (1360-1330 BCE) Battle of Kadesh (1274 BCE) These battles and letters show Egypt had total dominance and control over Canaan. So based on these facts apologists now want to place the Exodus at 1265 BCE. But there are issues with that date also. While some apologists would like to claim that Egypt abandoned Canaan and withdrew their forces back to Egypt there are two major problems. The Hittites were still on the border and were still skirmishing with the Egyptians. Now if the apologist's Exodus was happening and the Egyptian army was destroyed at the red/reed sea the Hittites would have surly noticed swept in and conquered Egypt, the bread basket of the middle east. Hatta was in a major drought and suffering from grain shortages. No, they made a peace treaty with Egypt and bought the grain 5 years later. Second problem is the Egyptians occupied Gaza (one of the cities Joshua smote 10:41) until they turned it over to the Philistines after 1177BCE. And they maintained a fortress in Jaffa until 1125BCE.(Burke and Peilstöcker have found evidence of two catastrophic blazes, ten years apart, that destroyed Jaffa, the second one occurring in about 1125 B.C. That fire, Burke believes, marked the end of Egypt’s presence not just in Jaffa, but in all of Canaan) Merneptah stele 1207BCE The Egyptian army rolls through Canaan and the only Israelites they encounter are some people in the highlands that they scatter. No Israelite city states or cities. No great Israelite army to stop them. Just a people the Egyptians called Israel. Dr Dever: "We know today, from archeological investigation, that there were more than 300 early villages of the 13th and 12th century in the area. I call these "proto-Israelite" villages". Shishak (Sheshonq I) 926 BCE Again the Egyptian army rolls through Canaan spends between 10 & 30 years occupying and leaves. No great armies of the United Kingdom to stop them. Interesting is the bible mentions Shishak by name but doesn't know who the pharaoh of the Exodus is. The bible mentions other kings/pharaohs by name also, but again can't name the Pharaoh of the Exodus. *Egypt had control over Canaan from 1457BCE until 1125BCE*. There is no time frame for the Exodus unless you count the return of the Judahites after Cyrus the great defeated the Babylonians. So no Exodus no Moses, simple isn't it when you have the facts.

I don’t believe Egypt actually “allowed” sibling marriage the way the question was commented on. The royal family was seen to be semi-divine (sometimes completely divine) and as such, marrying within the family limited the future claimants to the throne.

It's crazy to me that that was a single human being thousands of years ago who sat down one day at wrote a book, and thousands of years later, entire cultures and societies still orbit around that book at that center.

The création account up until Moses death, his prophecies about the fate of Israël are all revelations from TMH. Revelation of John is similar. It was revealed to him by Jesus, and give details about the " things shortly to come" ie the future from John's time till the end times. Nothing unusual really as far as scriptures are concerned. They're called prophets of TMH for a reason.

The lectures are amazing. I wish he would ask the audience to wait for the end to add comments and ask questions. That person in the audience absolutely ruins this

Great! This is quite a concise description of the first book in the Bible. And this was the book amongst others that made me question the whole existence of an Abrahamic deity at the ripe old age of 13 which got me on bad terms with certain members of my family which has never fully healed to this day. At 13 I remember my questions were 1)How can eating an apple cause humans to start dying? 2)How can a snake talk? 3)And how can god kill children who have no guilt? In relation to Noah's flood. 4) God specifically chooses people as favorites in a small part of the world? Considering the size of Earth. I remember saying to a pastor once that God, too, was not wise and I could not worship someone who couldn't consider logic and was going on feelings and passions. The questions were pertinent to me at the time I was going through a chaotic period in my life after losing my father. And issues with members of my family after renouncing religion who thought I was the devil, and being kicked out of my aunt's house.

Sorry you had such difficult childhood. What was missing was the wisdom to not challenge your family's beliefs, as they did not have the knowledge or understanding to deal with such questioning of their faith. You should have asked the questions but kept your beliefs to yourself. Far too many assume because they believe in something it must be 'true'. They miss how the definition of faith is belief in something that cannot be demonstrated as true...

My friend, the irrationality of religious dogma does not demo anything about God, it demos things about irrational people. Every point you make there is about irrational religious dogma. Religions certainly didnt create God, As for Noahs flood. There was no worldwide flood 4460 years ago which killed everyone on earth. Obviously there is a tiny percentage of that much water on earth. Also, in this age we lnow that there was not only 8 people on earth those few years ago. It is part of a creation legend which was common lore back then, and was incorporated into the first chapters of Genesis. These facts do not in any way detract from the idea of a Creator Being.

@@garymaclean6903 Yes if I was older and wiser, I may have kept my beliefs to myself as you so expressed. I now fully understand religion and religious faith to be more of a personal thing, more than anything else, but we still have to try and convince people to appeal to common sense and logic where necessary. @@37rainman If you go by that logic then the words of God in the Bible, Koran and Torah are irrational,take the stories of a talking snake, waking up the dead in the new testament, some people rising up to heaven on a chariot and a host of other fables from these books. Then Include innocent drowning babies, little children and innocent animals who are supposedly just surviving if you want to go on your Noah’s flood story. Then some might say it depends on interpretation of what was written in these books Well there goes Irrationality again. As consider a book that we are meant to live our lives by and get our moral guidance from having so many meanings to different people. Logically with such a holy book or books someone in Brazil should have the same interpretation of a passage or verse in the Bible or Koran for example as say someone in China or there must be a flaw or irrationality somewhere.

In university I was taught that the Priestly Writers wrote Genesis looking back at time and adapted the tales from early oral history. Therefore it was written in retrospect and partly staged in order to justify Hebrew land claims to the land of Israel.

It would pretty much have to be considered it references stuff like iron tools as far back as Genesis 4. Clearly, the author is writing from the iron age, if not later, when such things are common.

(Not an expert, just an interested reader.) It's been done for many individual stories; I'm not sure if anyone's published a complete edition of a reconstructed J, for example. What you *can* easily get is something like Richard E. Friedman's The Bible With Sources Revealed, which contains a translation of the Pentateuch with all the text colour-coded to indicate what source contained each verse. (In Dr. Friedman's judgement, naturally.) It should be noted that even when the experts mostly agree on the division, they don't entirely agree, so there's constant argument over which source a particular passage belongs to. And the sources are often extremely fragmentary, especially E (I'm given to understand), so you can't necessarily *get* coherent narratives from multiple sources (although sometimes you very strikingly can, e.g. the Joseph-sold-to-Egypt stories and the Flood myths-Joel S. Baden shows some of this very clearly in The Composition of the Pentateuch). I guess this is to be expected: if a redactor is editing together two versions of a story, he'll probably omit bits where both versions are the same. Also, there are layers of redaction (e.g. I gather J+E were edited together first, then later together with P); the final redactor with his tendency to preserve presumably didn't have access to the full original J and E documents.

Since many of events are of oral tradition there will probably never be enough authentication for you. The scriptures were separate scrolls before they were combined into the Bible. The oldest copies of the scriptures do have separate versions from modern variants of the same scriptures. There are also many ancient scriptures that were holy at their time but have been edited out of the modern “biblical” collection. Read the Dead Sea scrolls. Read the gnostic texts. Then compare the copies in the modern bibles. Read the church fathers, they like to point out all the versions of scriptures they don’t like... meaning those variants existed. What your asking for is in evidence. You just have to read it.

We can theorize and guess about the writing of Genesis, but i don't find anywhere who wrote it. I would say it is a big faith factor. Only taking the belief that the scriptures are God breathed.

1:47 can you document who it is that attributed this to Moses? Is that just some generic word of mouth, or is there an actual reliable person who made this attribution, and what evidence was this based on? It's been attributed to Moses since ancient times (though it is not found in the biblical text itself); there's no way to name a specific person who started it. Joel Baden explains it as mostly due to a referential expansion of the term "torah" ('law', 'teaching'). In some parts of the Pentateuch, it's clearly used to refer to specific law codes like the Covenant Code; this gets referred to as "the torah of Moses", as in "the laws handed down to Moses by God". So that correlates with the rise of the Israelite caste system of Kohen>Levite>Pure-Israelite>Convert, bastard, slave and so on... Which I assert is of stronger Indo-European influence, as is the P cosmology of creation and genesis. With the water and earth separation, correlations with "Tiamat" or the foundational Indo-European creation myths that we can see in the cosmology from Iceland to India. Which also theoretically links the priestly caste concept with Brahman of India. Also correlates with the Babylonian period into the Persian period and Cyrus (died 530 BCE) and the transition to Aramean script. And yes, there was clearly a power struggle, and priestly classes dominating social hierarchy during that period. Probably because the Monarchy lost significance after Babylon. It's plausible that the early Hittite period brought Indo-European influence also. But between the P sources cosmological correlations with Indo-European creation myth, the rise of the Aaronites, and the strengthening of the Aaronite caste, would be too much to just be coincidence. And exile to Assyria, then Babylon and then Persian rule, would all make sense as where that influence at least would come from. Whether it originally had to do with a specific genealogical lineage or not is another question. Theoretically could have began either way, as a lineage that took control of a social dynamic or a priestly group that made itself a lineage after. While the tribes might have been destroyed as entities, likely just correlating with broader northern Kingdom, individuals representing all the tribes would have certainly lived in Judah prior to the Assyrians and many would have likely fled. Which also makes sense why the E source would have been integrated into the text, to join or "re-join" the two peoples under the Kingdom of Judah, not the tribe of Judah.

Sound track is poor, can hardly hear the narrator. Gave up after 4 minutes.

The documentary interpretation is confusing and difficult to understand which perhaps explains wy I have always found the Bible confusing and contradictory. I have come back to the church after many years and at first found it comforting but now I see why I left in the first place. Perhaps I can come to terms with all this and finally make peace with the religion of my family and the Christian community. This has been an attempt on my part to make peace with myself.

Incredible lecture! It's amazing how you can disentangle different voices, times and philosophies in this book that was long thought to be written by a single man.

@@ansfridaeyowulfsdottir8095 I recall my high school teachers describing the ability to recognize which of their students an essay had been written by without actually looking at the name. They alluded to every person developing tendencies - from words and phrases commonly used, to the structure of sentences, and even spelling and grammar mistakes that would often be repeated. While this could have just been to scare us away from cheating (having someone else write a paper for you, or stealing it from the web), I believed it. I think this lecture pointed to a similar strategy being used to determine who'd written different parts - the writing style would shift. Patterns eventually emerged, it seems, allowing anyone to go back and identify the author according to those patterns. I think anyone could do it with enough patience and attention to detail. And these days, a computer could certainly do it as well.

What does the documentary hypothesis suggest about the Binding of Isaac? The story opens with Elohim speaking directly to Abraham and as he raises his knife to kill Isaac, the narrative switches to the Yahwist author. From that point forward all communication is through the Messenger of Yahweh. It appears there was once a version where the sacrifice went through as planned.

The story has Egyptian influence such as the serpent with legs , and the cherubim who kept the way of the garden ,the serpent and cherubim can be seen on Egyptian temple walls

Interesting video, though who wrote Genesis has little to do with my faith. Genesis is literally a collection of stories to give Juda an origin myth and preach morals. Each one was probably written and edited by a different person. Paul is said to be one of those editors. He placed his own interpretations into the text. Like making Eve out of a rib or Adam, signifying that she must be subserviant to Adam. In the original Hebrew text they where two halfs (equals), so they completed each other. He likely modified other stories in a similar fashion. Most biblical scholars wish to make the bible one book and more consistent. Which in reality the bible is many books written by different people with different opinions about how we should express our faith. There is holy scripture in the bible but most of it is just a collection of opinions, history, psalms, quotes, and stories. All of which was understood before the bible was written. This was done in an attempt to make Christianity simpler to follow and understand. The problem occurred when the bible was treated like a holy book and every singled word in the bible became law and truth. Which was never true for the religion before the bible. There where many philosophical debates among and within the Jews, Christians, and even Muslims. Fact Islam completely just threw out this origin myth for their own. None agree on anything. So yeah questioning who wrote Genesis seems pointless to me. I neither gain nor lose anything from it. But would be some neet trivia to answer.

A fascinating Lecture. You didn't mention that there are also 2 stories about creation. In Genesis 1, God creates everything including the animals, and birds and all the sea creatures, and the last of his creation is man. There is no mention of Eve by name. In Genesis 2, man is created first and then the animals which are brought to him so he can name them. That is followed by the creation of Eve and the instruction of to be fruitful and multiply. However, you made it plenty clear that these stories were written by different authors. Thank you again for your research and presentation.

It seems that the high criticism of the Bible has messed up with and so been confused by more than 3000 years of Near Eastern oral tradition, ancient symbolism coding, transitional letter copying, translating, editing, with modern printing and publishing process. It WAS definitely not that Moses was sitting down in a ivy tower writing down "Genesis" for publishing that you can imagine to criticize and distort to mock it in a ivy tower.

Genesis and creation are the beginning of written language. The logos, the word, was brought into form by writing. This was the creation. Written language.

@@chrisbowers7661 I think Day-gone knights is giving a metaphorical interpretation of the Genesis story, not making an actual claim about its being the first written language. They don't express that very clearly, though.

So, Ezra was King Cyrus' guy out of Babylonia, right? So maybe he was specifically tasked with giving the Jews creation myths and laws. So he rewrote the epic of Gilgamesh into Noah's Ark. And perhaps he assembled Jewish mythology that hadn't been written down, as well as bits of Sumerian myths that have since been lost in the original.

Great comment. It's fun to spot people who have seen the patterns. It went from Gilgamesh (Hero's Journey, self healing template, Joseph Campbell) to the Babylonian Enuma Elish then Egyptian, Greek and Hebrew myth and religions. They are simply various genres in which to nest a deeper teaching. They are the Ark's if you will and the people who carry them don't see what's inside. Here's how I see them. Jason of Argonautica, Greek Myth fame and Moses. I mirror them into my psyche and interpret the analogous terms. Jason - Saved as a small child for later adventure. Moses - Saved as a small child for later adventure. (The call) Jason - Struggles to leave island in the beginning. Analog for our struggles to leave our past. Moses - Same thing happens with Pharaoh. Struggle to leave the past. Jason - Invokes help from a God to pass through the clashing rocks. Crossing the threshold. Moses - Invokes Gods help to pass through the sea. Crossing the threshold. etc. It was their media for thousands of years and they have something deeper going on.

@@JointFive There are, of course, many stories. Recently I visited my local library and noticed that most of the books are in the fiction section. It is obvious that people prefer fiction to non-fiction in books, TV films etc Perhaps we don't like this world very much and find fiction a pleasing distraction from reality.

@@tedgrant2 yes, but I don't base my personal beliefs on anything I think is irrational and not based in documented experience. Religious / tribal wars are 90% of conflict etc... To me religion and political ideology might be the same, but at least a political ideology has common merit if democratic. Where religions and centralized governments just are more obvious in the desire to control

@@JointFive But many governments are influenced by religion. In the UK there are 26 seats reserved for Bishops in Parliament. However, no court of law would accept the Bible as evidence. Yet the witnesses and the jury members have to swear on that book.
