A cool little environmental mechanic. If you hit the trees with the faces on in the shaded woods area, the ghosty phantom guys will be attracted to them, keeping them distracted and giving you more time to explore the area!

she can also clear that dlc when she get that item that shows the hidden things can be seen, those all enemies will be visable, and she can then also lock on them and hit them easier, in case u dont know that also

Don't forget the Sunset Staff. It's been mentioned before but for Hexes its loads better than the starting staff. What's confused you both in this and past vids is DS2's bad UI, you have to jump through a small hoop to see the the total damage that both the weapon and your stats provide. The screen where you equip it only shows the weapons base damage. Equip it, then press back once to be on the base Equipment page and highlight the staff. You'll then see both the base damage and in blue next to it the bonus damage derived from your stats. Briefly equip both staffs in slots next to each other for easy comparison.

Also might be worth doing a dark infusion if she's using hexes for some extra damage. Soul arrows will hit for less but if most of the spells cast are hexes, then it's probably worth the tradeoff.

Another thing to consider is Attribute scaling on additional DMG / DEF on items. The "Sorcerer's staff" have scaling C in both Sorcery and Hex, while Sunset staff have A in Sorcery and S in Hexes. Meaning that you get more DMG bonus from your Attributes (INT, Faith...) with Sunset staff. Scaling is like English school grades. Best is S, then A, B, C, D, E. And the more you level up certain attributes (In your case INT and Faith), you get more bonus DMG even when your staff will be maxed :) Also the scaling bonuses are sort of % based and are more like Exponential than Linear in their differences. Wiki have more details, but this is start-up explanation. Good luck.

Regarding your Pursuer fight early in the episode: he himself deals Dark damage and is resistant to this damage type, which is why your hexes did not work very well against him.

i love Vengarl, such a cool concept for a character, i'd love to see them use a similar idea again in another game idk why but this playthrough is really satisfying to watch, the methodical clearing of the areas and the gathering of new spells and stuff, it's just fun haha another great ep, looking forward to the next one!!

For enemies with a large surface area like the Royal Rat Authority, I found the Dark Hail hex particularly useful, if the caster can get close enough to make many/all of the orbs hit the target.

55:50 You can use the Ring of Whispers (the cat sells) to talk with him, he would help you with Najaka, but you already killed her so... it's good for the lore

He will also give you a couple items after defeating a certain boss.

I was waiting for you to finally reach one of my favorite areas in this game. The Doors of Pharos is so cool and unique, and is tied to the Rat King Covenant. As a member of the covenant, you get to summon to your world other players who are looting the area in their game, and they have to either defeat you or progress to the fog gate. The thing is that now the enemies are your allies and they fight the summoned player too. Also, many of those lockstones are traps that you can set to halt their progress, that's why there are many messages to not use them, because if you are not in the covenant they will harm you. It is such a unique and cool idea, too bad it is very hard to make it work properly with how the game works. I hope you eventually get to try some of the Covenants, they definitely bring a new experience to the game, specially DS2.

The Royal Rat Authority is a bad boss, but you gotta admit that it's an incredible name.

Really fun episode. Watching you take on bosses is hysterical. The big lobster didn’t talk to you because you needed the ring of whispers to hear it. The cat at Majula sells it. I don’t understand all the complaints about DS2. I loved it!

Your astonishment and shock at the wacky, unique shit Dark Souls 2 has to offer is a joy to experience. I know the game isn't perfect, but I think it's the most interesting and deep FromSoftware title. I mean, the story is extremely minimal and unimportant in all of these games, but you get these little nuggets of great writing and voice acting from characters like Vengarl. DS2 is full of those little moments.

1:38:20 Right when you asked for timestamps, the one you're standing in front of is actually a good one lmao! Opens a door in the water right below, to a little loot. The only other noteworthy door, in the water between the first two contraptions, has a really cool weapon unfortunately not for magic builds... it becomes MORE powerful and gets crazy attacks if you break it. The weapon/spell FOMO hurts, every Souls game!!

The last lockstone, with the little pool, was actually a healing pool! You stand in them and heal over time. They've got limited usefulness and are only two or three in the base game, IIRC. But, yeah. It's a gamble if you don't know. I don't see any issue looking it up. You can get enough to open them all, but it's not really worth the timesink.

Also, Royal Rat Authority is the worst designed fight in the entire game. It's one time being grumpy is 100% justified. I don't know what it's even meant to test beyond, "Don't get hit twice with 5 enemies swingin' at you."

Lighting effects lock-on range in ds2. For differences between male and female characters, I think it's just some slight changes in dialogue, slightly different walking animations and there's a DLC armor set that only heal female characters. *Oh there's some cosmetic changes too if you're into fashion souls. Some armor sets will appear different if your character is male or female.

Hi, the area with Lion-men and laughting Jars is the area I warned you about (few episodes back) in comment about Fragnant Branches of Yore. The scorpion man is the one that gives you 1 branch in his quest AND there should be 1 branch AFTER one of the Lion Statues, and there is no way around it, meaning that you HAVE to unpetriffy the statue first. If you want to learn how to get it from Scorpion man, ask, it is not exactly new-player friendly solution :) SPOILER + EDIT: The chest with Fragnant Branch after Statue is at 1:03:30.

The coffin changes gender and the red guy appeared cause you lit the torches, there's stuff you've missed all the way back at the beginning too. You can give the birds more stuff too, best to look up what.

That Najka kill was clutch lol. I am enjoying this playthrough immensely, and I respect your dedication to spellcasting, but using a weapon instead of a shield would make things so much easier! Especially for the shaded enemies and bosses like RRA where you get spammed with annoying little guys. But don't let me tell you how to play, just a friendly suggestion.

Pro tip, though you can only leave 1 at a time, you can leave them in sequence while staying in the menu, this is far faster. Just do 10 in sequence then pick up. It saves about 80% of the time.

Enjoyed watching this video. You're doing fine. Don't underestimate the power of throwing knives. You can buy them from Melentia. Great for breaking pots or drawing individual enemies. Amber discovers that Melentia sells fragrant brach of yore for 12000 souls. Beats Najka then immediately levels up forgetting she wants the fragrant branch ! You can always do a quick farm for the souls. You can try the sunset staff out on a few enemies and see the difference in damage cooompared to the staff you have. Go back to the firekeepers and speak to their maid. I love how you read the item descriptions, but certain items also have hidden stat boosts. Put some on and see if they change your stats.

i was thinking vengarl's voice sounded really familiar... same VA as valtr from bloodborne! even though he's not listed as Valtr on IMDB, it's on the wiki.

you seem confused about wearing armor, you only get heavier if you equipment load gets over 70.0%! you’ll definitely notice it, the controller will vibrate when you roll. but i have to admit its a little funny to see you gaslight yourself in to think your roll is heavier after every little change lol

I think DS2 does have a thing where load does cause incremental changes in roll distance and stamina recovery, so there are advantages to keeping it low outside of that breakpoint. Though even with that, the extra ~10% from that helmet isn't much to worry about.

I thought that rat was a wolf when I played it.

I noticed at the end you were looking for spell slots...just leveling Attunement will open them, but also, for each few stat points the base number of casts you get for each spell increases...but the attributes use an interconnected-stat system. Basically, when you highlight a stat on Level-up, a grey box appears under the corresponding attribute, and each attribute is governed by multiple stats (Except spell slots that is just Atn.)...that is why when you put a point into something, sometimes the number in the grey box doesn't go up... I can kinda see what they were going for with that and the scaling...when you swing a weapon, it's not just the weapons power (Titanite), it's the weapons ease of use (Scaling +A-F), and the person's skill (Attributes)...same when you do a running challenge for example, you need multiple areas to succeed: Strength, dexterity, adaptability, ect are all involved (Just an example, I don't have the stats memorized)...

The item in boss room at 1:20:00 is accessible ONLY if you lure Najka into the tree while she is underground. Her un-burrow move destroys the tree and the corpse with item drops down. But it is is only titanite shard, so nothing special to worry about ;)

Ahhhh...Tseldora. That should be entertaining. Also I absolutely hated the Shaded Woods but I forced myself to explore every inch of it anyway. But what I'm really looking forward to is you reaching the DLC areas.

Your playthrough of this game might be one of the best - so much fun! And yeah, don't worry, the attunement will give you more spell slots soon.

The sunset staff has absolutely insane hex scaling, and the base dark damage goes up in massive steps with each upgrade. It’s INT scaling is also way better than the sorcerer staff, so even though base damage is a bit lower it ends up being better. There’s also an INT-focused staff that you’ll get in a little while which has crazy good sorcery damage and scaling. It takes some getting used to, but they are objectively better than the starting staff.

Another great episode of Dark Souls 2. The RRA is certainly a tough fight so don't worry about the bit of attitude. All Dark Souls players have been there before.

And you found written msg at the last 2 that are not traps or dead ends. first was the Chest but pointless, it isnt totally pointless :D and the last one was the 3 on a row, the middle opens a door just like the first one I mentioned. Great video as always :D very impressed with the way you handled the hostile shades.

If you go back in that coffin , it will return you to your last profile. You will be as you were before!

@1:46:58 Why you weren't able to sprint: when your stamina bar reaches 0, you're not able to sprint again until it goes all the way back up to full first. You're character essentially goes into an exhausted state from depleting all stamina. Took me forever to figure it out when I first played and was frustrating but once you know it's easier to manage. DS2 is the only one that does this

Ahhh, complaining about Royal Rat Authority, a rite of passage for souls players. Don't worry about it. If anything, it's way harder to deal with as a melee user since it's tough to deal with the tiny rats reliably before the big one gets down

Royal Rat Authority is the worst boss in the game so don't feel bad about being grumpy...He killed me more on my first run than every other boss combined! Make sure you buy the Ring of Whispers and go back to the scorpion guy in Shaded Woods!

Pharos Lockstones can be farmed from those dog-rat enemies in Pharos Doors area, they respawn infinitely (as everything in that small watery area after the bonfire), because it is PVP arena location :) You will not find enough stones in 1 playthrough to open all Pharos contraptions, or even just the non-PVP ones. Also Mastodon equipment can be sold to Gavlan for quite nice prices.

Vengarl is such a freaking interesting character

Pursuers are servants of Dark, and are resistant to Dark, so they are always going to be a tough fight for your build and preferred magic. Bear that in mind if youre tempted to wander in the Dark (to say more would be a spoiler). If you havent played Sekiro you should try it. Unlike many people who play DS games, you dont spam and you have a play style that would naturally fit in Sekiro. The coffin makes your character change from female to male, and vice versa. Its reversible. Doesnt really matter in practice; demon’s souls is the only fromsoft game that has armour thats specifically for males or females. You just get a surprise when you change armour or hear your character make a dying noise. There’s really bugger all in things betwixt. Before the scholar nerf it was just a place where youd constantly get invaded and ganked on your way to swap items with Dyna and Tilo, which is what all those bloodstains are. The player who invaded you was pretty hopeless. Depending on your build you can get good weapons from Dyna and Tilo but its random. If you have multiple rings of the same type keep the one with the highest + number and sell the rest - you cant use weaker rings of the same type to stack the effects. You have the rose shield, which boosts stamina regen, and is a good shield, so you may be able to free up a ring slot if you equip the rose shield. Works while youre carrying it and while its on your back Carhillion should be in majula by now. From memory, over by the cliffs somewhere. Ps to speak with beasts you need a ring.

You're long past this part but fyi those Lion Warriors in the Shaded Woods are SUPER resistant to magic damage and elemental damage. The best thing to use against them is a regular melee weapon (no elemental or magical damage). A unupgraded dagger with minimum required stats can kill one of those Lion Warrior in two backstabs. Any sort of elemental or magical damage is really weak against them.

You should try the Soul Spear… it’s a very nice spell for bosses!

Your accent is amazing. I love it.

Attunement does more than just give slots. It also increases spell uses per slot! (And casting speed and agility) Truly a spellcaster’s best stat!

Having finished the video: This was a ton of fun, you're really going through this game at a good clip! Idk about others but I personally don't mind you looking some stuff up, when it's stuff like the Doors of Pharros, or even if you're unsure about using a Fragrant Branch of Yore on a petrified figure since they're quite rare. A thought that struck me as you were fighting the shades and later the Royal Rat Authority: Since you're a caster, and especially a hexer who is a kind of jack of all trades caster, it might be useful to have a spell like the Combustion pyromancy that functions more like a melee attack and is very quick to cast. I think you found one copy of it in Huntsman's Copse, and Rosabeth sells another if you want more casts. :)

Woke up feeling awful and just wanted something good to watch, and looked and saw you uploaded. Always super enjoyable, so thank you for always having something great to watch. :)

4:30 fun fact: the large "eyes" aren't actually their real eyes! Just look up what their actual eyes look like and they'll become a lot more bearable and cute (still annoying tho) :)

Bro, have you got lingering flame from Straid in the Lost Bastille cells? It's a pyromancy that acts like a land mine and you can lure enemies into it. It's totally your kind of spell. I think it would suit your gameplay.

Royal Rat Authority is a tougher Boss, I died a few times there, as well. Well Played, Thanks for your hard work!!
