just as an FYI to all those losing their minds over me saying the original is unwatchable, let me add some context to that comment. is the film an ultimate classic? yes, of course it is, was it incredibly ground breaking and mind-blowing back then? yes, absolutely, without a doubt! however, my reverence of the film as a classic and something i loved, does not blind me to the fact that unfortunately, if going back and viewing it against modern standards, it does not hold up. IN MY OPINION, i did not say it was a fact. you are welcome to your opinion as am i. would i make a video on it, if i thought it was shit? no.

How about "it looks dated." which is a true statement considering it's over 30 years old. And it should look dated, special FX need to continue to evolve and Tron was one of those movies that helped push them to the next level. "Unwatchable" makes it sound like no entertainment value can be gleaned from viewing it.

"Tron" is actually a computer command in Altair Basic. It's short for "Trace On" and is used to trace bad integers in a program. Its counterpart is "Troff" or "Trace Off"

Even though I wasn't into Tron but the character I saw in Legacy was heartbreaking and possibly the final act he did was to protect those from tyranny. A perfect example of heroism and bravery. Although I would recommend that you do all of Del Toro's array of critters as their is a lot of info on them.

I grew up with TRON (the original), I thought it was a BRILLIANT movie, and it captivated the wonder and creativity that Computers bestowed to humanity. I saw it as a child, and I thought it was a magical/technological wonderland where anything you program can be transformed into something more than simple coding and scripts, but rather something with a purpose, with value, and a rich tapestry of a digital life. And for me personally, Tron legacy ADDED to that world. It gave us more of a backstory, more of a vast landscape, where programs didnt just run algorithms , or execute commands, but they indeed take on a life of their own. They had their own thoughts, feelings and desires. They could even act in human-like ways. Being secretive, duplicitous, vengeful, conspiratorial, or being devious, deceptive, and controversial. I personally LOVED the soundtrack especially, it gave the mood of the world perfectly. And I personally feel they SHOULD have continued with the franchise, even more so after the epilogue "Flynn Lives", where they brought back former cast members that were not in Tron Legacy. I feel by adding to the franchise, would have been more profitable for Disney in the end, they just simply should have ignored the internet trolls that talked trash about it, and looked at the boxoffice numbers it produced. And of course we ALL would have loved to find out what would happen with an Isomorph in the real world, what Quorra could have done in our world, and what changes she might have brought about.

Hi Mr. H! TRON has a special pop place in my heart. My name is LaTrone, but my mom nicknamed me Tron long before TRON came out in 1982. As a 8/9 year old kid from the west side of Chicago, it was so exciting to see that there was an electronic superhero with my nickname. I didn't TRON till it came on t.v. in the mid 1980's. There was a TRON arcade game I use to play as often as possible when I was able to get a little money. It's still my favorite game of all time. I hope somehow or someway TRON makes it back on the big screen again soon.

Great to see you delving into the world of Tron. I really liked Tron Legacy, and the spin-off prequel cartoon show, Tron Uprising. I think it's a massive shame that there won't be another Tron movie anytime soon, as they laid some intriguing plot points in TL, particularly with Cillian Murphy portraying Dillinger's son. I can appreciate your comments about the original Tron - it is a classic, yes, and it is a bit ropey in parts, yes, but is a massively ambitious movie, for the time.

I loved the visual asthetic to the new movie as well as the panoply of quality music and sound effects. Getting Daft Punk was one of the best ideas and indeed the day the film came out I had already purchased the soundtrack it was so good. I felt like nostalgia added to but didn't diatract from the story. I only wish they had worked David Warner into the story, even if just a cameo, as he is very good talent. I figured given what he had been up to with the MCP he would have at least been mentioned.

Tron Legacy was a visual and musical masterpiece. IMO the Daft Punk soundtrack was BY FAR the best soundtrack ever made for a superhero movie. The cinematography and special effects were also a league in its own, especially for 2011. The storyline left much to be desired though. Overall, I am one of the few who will say Tron Legacy is my favorite superhero movies despite it's storyline flaws. If a 3rd installment can be made, I pray that the storyline improves along with continued strength in the soundtrack and visuals.... that would be spectacular and I hope would push Tron into the mainstream

The original Tron I found very confusing, I've seen it probably 3 times and had to resort to wikipedias overview of the plot to understand what was going on. Its a film i wouldnt care to watch again. Tron Legacy, on the other hand, i found very enjoyable, I loved the updates to the grid, it had a solid story and fun new characters with extremely pleasing CGI. Its not a movie for everyone, but ive seen in probably 5 or 6 times and i hope we can get a Tron 3 sometime.

  • @LeeRender1980

I'm a Tron here ... you're right the re-imagination of Tron makes the original one hard to watch with all digital changes but it has a charm and at the time it was cutting edge; I think when we came to Legacy we got initially thrown straight into a 'what the heck' and had to try and do a bit 'gap filling'. But like anything the tech moves on and when it comes to Legacy as you say bring what we like from the original and then brings it back up to date and in essence you could say it's recoded itself. I like both..I even have the Legacy Sound Track...something not always possible back in the day For the user!

To de-metaphor the grid and Tron, Tron is effectively a combination of a firewall and a product called MQ on the mainframe. MQ is used to pass information around (Message Queue) (www-03.ibm.com/software/products/en/ibm-mq) Tron in the first film would have been the MQ interface the MCP (In many ways, unintentionally an overzelous version of CA7 scheduler + MVS) would have been forced to use to move data around. Tron's resiliency is in fact a metaphor in that regard to MQ's secure transmission ability.

I believe I got actually introduced to the TRON-Universe properly when I played Tron: Evolution right around when Legace came out. The whole concept of the grid and the visual style of Tron Legacy are really fascinating to me. I usually like cyberspaces or similar concepts the most when they are tied into larger science fiction universes and Tron really shaped the way I imagine those nowadays. Personally, I think it is a shame we never actually saw the villains of this franchise succeeding in leaving the grid into the real world. It would have been absolutely awesome to see the whole concept of the Grid being turned upside down by programs roaming the real world or entering other systems.

The MCP was already deep into world politics and economy back in the '80s. Flynn shut him down. We're all lucky that Flynn developed the Grid on a private server.

I really liked Legacy. More than most I think. I've recently re watched it and took in uprising. I never really saw it as a bad movie. Maybe not good, but decent and defiantly in my wheelhouse. I think it failed to take its audience seriously. It didn't care to challenge them with deeper plots and character developments. Overly simplified. But, Tron is truly an original Science fiction. I love the idea of life in a digital space. What Kevin Flynn called "bio-digital jazz". Not AR. Not VR. But a new substrate for reality. Its an incredibly original idea that inspired so many good sci-fi films and stories. I always thought "the matrix" was the love child of "Tron" and "The Terminator".

It would be so awesome if we could just get an ending movie for Uprising. I'm sure it would generate enough interest in new toys and comics and possibly get us a new live action movie. There is SO MUCH that can be done with the Tron universe.

Just keep in mind that all the work that went into making Tron pushed computer generated imagery to another level and eventually resulted in the graphics we have today. I'm glad I don't rate a movies watchability by the quality of it's FX according to todays standards. Tron was cutting edge at the time by contrast The Brother Grimm which came out it 2005 has worse cgi than Jurassic Park which came out over ten years earlier. One of the reasons the FX in Tron hold up is because the Cyber World that is portrayed does represent the capability of computers of the time and the world would evolve as computers become more advanced.

I loved both films! In fact as I write this I'm wearing a "Flynn's arcade" t-shirt that arrived in the post yesterday. The pacing of the first film is slightly slow by today's standards, but the story as a whole still stands firm and really lit up my imagination as a child. Tron legacy was a great reintroduction to the franchise, it had minor flaws with the whole uncanny valley part, but once inside the grid it worked out well, and really improved upon what I loved. It's a shame that Disney decided that because "Tomorrowland: A World Beyond " lost so much money it would be more cost effective to just do animations or live action versions of its classics.

well.. technically... Troy just fell. since he DID crash and sunk. An is still there now. Does leave room for another chance to get the movie series right. Since most the heroes survived and there's plenty room in cyberspace for ANY new or old villain in some form to come back. Seeing that it hints at a whole other universe of massive proportions existing in cyberspace
