That's the line that got me.

Her track "The Story" will blow your mind. I was lucky enough to see her sing it live in a small venue with pristine acoustics. It was years ago, and I still remember it.

Broken Horses is amazing too!

I think it's amazing that she gave a voice to those marginalized with a simple, yet impactful, song. Definitely about those bullied and/or treated as outcasts due to ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender...et al, and who still retain their sense of identity and dignity.

Teenage Brandy was a devout Christian (still is) who was publically cast out of her church because it was known she was gay positive (dressed butch) and she would not deny it. She's had to rebuild her sense of being whole while somehow retaining and building family and faith.

Dude you have to watch her do the "Joke" live at the 61st Grammy award show.

I watch her Grammy performance of this song at least once a week. Emotional powerhouse.

Brandi is an incredible human in addition to all her gifts as a musician. Her bandmates, the Hanseroth twins, are absolutely brilliant. If you're looking for more ballad/anthem songs like this, I suggest The Eye and The Story. But don't overlook her more rock heavy work which is just as great. And if you get a chance to see her live DO IT

Sinners Saints & Fools is a good track off Brandi Carlile.

I cry every time. She’s a treasure.

She may be the greatest artist of our time, truly. Her work transcends race, genre, age, time, nation, religion, etc. She is a once in a century talent.

Walking up the stairs one day I heard this coming from my adult daughters bedroom. I sat down on the stairs smiled, and my heart filled with love. I had discovered this song about 4 years ago and was moved by the voice so much. And to find my daughter felt the same made me feel closer to her that day. Special tiny moment in time.

The meaning of "the joke's on you": used to describe a situation in which a person trying to make something happen to someone else (such as being tricked or embarrassed) ends up having it happen to himself or herself instead. Example: He thought he could embarrass us, but now the joke is on him and he's the one who looks foolish.

If you like this song, you simply MUST watch the video of her Grammy’s performance for it. She won 3 Grammys that night and is nominated again this year! Twice in the same category even.

Her voice is haunting.

I can hardly believe it, but I have never heard this astoundvoice singing this necessary song. I love it!

As the song progresses, you can see all of htem taking back their own inner being and confidence... so many of her songs do that, they build you up, move you and spread across your soul.

The first time I heard this song was last summer when Adam Lambert sang it beautifully in concert and was praised by Brandi for it. I of course had to listen to Brandi's version because it's her song and of course it was different but beautiful as well. She's going to be opening for Pink when I see her in October and I'm looking forward to seeing her live! My daughter in-law is a huge fan so of course she's really excited and we're excited to take my 14 year old granddaughter to expose her to different music than she listens to. ☺️

It was fun watching you listen to her and to see your face light up and feel the emotional weight of the song! The Joke is an anthem, for sure. Some of my favorite songs are the ones that feature more of the full band. Two of my favorites are “Fulton County Jane Doe” and “Sugartooth”. They weren’t singles so there’s not an official music video, but you can find them on her KZread channel.

It's about being short-changed, disrespected, marginalized - for race, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity - and persevering to rise above. This video is emotional enough - her performance at the Grammys will blow you away. Other songs of hers: "The Story"; "Mother"; "The Eye"; "Raise Hell". "Right on Time".

It's about the marginalized and less powerful as far as societal, govenmental norms, and how things are changing and that's why the jokes on them... the voiceless are gaining strength and starting to be heard...

Benicio Bryant did an awesome rendition of this song when he was 14 on America's got Talent, he also got to actually sing that song with her at his school, he has come a long way since then and he is awesome, check out him singing it, AMAZING VOICE!!

She has an amazing vibrato in her voice, almost like a reverb that sustains. Thoughtful, very relevant lyrics. We should all be treated equally but we're not! Still too many bigots in the world that will never accept we are all different.

They're on tour and I'm going to drive from n/east Ohio to Nashville. I'm going to plant my butt on the grass and give myself an 80th birthday present 🤩. I've seen Elvis, The Everly Brothers, Mama's & Papas, Stevie & Fleetwood Mac! Ann Wilson's Heart, the Doobie Bros and I am so glad to add Brandi Carlile Band to a VERY long list. Their music finds a place in my heart. Hell... I'm gonna live to 100 so I can see them again 🤩🥳🍾🍺🍹

Wow ! You've had quite the life already.. what a line up of Great music to be apart of. I'm glad you get to add Brandi carlile to the mix! I love all of the artists/bands you spoke of also. I saw Elvis when I was a kid . He was either in Louisville Kentucky or Indianapolis Indiana. I was probably 12 yrs old ? I wish I would have appreciated it more. We're in good company, folks: She landed on Obama's list again this year. This song, an anthem to the marginalized misfits of the world, holds the number one spot of any song ever written or sung in my heart. Brandi is so much more than a singer/songwriter, she's an entire movement. You'd struggle to find a bad thing said about her in these feeds.

Oh god, just listen to the lyrics (or pause during the instrumental) - and then react. Interrupting her singing is sacrilegious. You can tell when a lyric or chorus is over. Pausing in the middle of a note is awful, man. You know music too well to do this.🥴
