Nemophila a very diverse band of some of the best musicians/artists, on the planet, and Mayus one of a kind vocals.. the second song "Life" is very special and emotional (as youve seen) for the ladies.. They're welcoming Tamu (drummer) back after maternity leave. They weren't sure if she was going to be able to continue. So as a tribute to being a full band again they recorded this song turned towards her..it was also Hazukis (guitarist) birthday

A very emotional performance. The band were all facing Tamu, the drummer, as they sang this to her. She had just returned from maternity leave. Emotions were running high, hence the superimposed sequence of the band crying. Even during the actual performance you can clearly see the tears on Tamu's face. The backstage segment was Hazuki (guitarist on OUR left - stage right) being given a cake on her birthday.

It started as "Mayu Session Band", highly talented musicians put together for one special concert. But obviously the girls felt a strong connection and deicided to continue. First making some great covers who got some attention. Since most girls takes part in the writing, they are delivering material at a high rate.

Hell... between Band-Maid, Lovebites, and now Babymetal AND Nemophila you have a lot... A LOT... of reactions to do 😁 You're definitely one of my favorite reactors to watch, I like how you point out all the technical stuff that I can now really appreciate when I'm listening to music on my own. About *Life* (this version). It was recorded during a livestream show (during the pandemic). Guess they had a problem with the audio on the livestream that they edit in the studio version of the song. Before the song. Saki gave a little speech welcoming back Tamu back to the band since she was on maternity leave. *Life* was a new song at this time & Tamu learned it in her personal closet (where she has a keyboard & electric drums set up to practice) at home. She didn't know the song was dedicated to her & her new daughter. That's why the band was facing the drummer & the happy tears. Also you saw the band was celebrating Hazuki's birthday since this livestream show happened around Hazuki's birthday. Nemophila was just a side project for both Guitarist Saki & Hazuki. Saki's primary band, *Mary's Blood* went on hiatus & Hazuki's band *Lisa-X* broke up in 2022. Plus drummer Tamu left a contractual position in 2021 to play full time in Nemophila's. Currently, the band has released their 2nd album *Seize the Fate* few days ago. Plans on going on tour in 2023 (US leg has several shows in California & one in Texas) once Mayu is off her maternity leave (she got married in 2022 & had a child).

Well, now you've experienced what I call the trifecta - Lovebites, Nemophila, and Band-Maid. Those three bands are pretty much all I listen to these days. Nemophila is one of those bands that won't allow themselves to be placed in a box. As Forest Gump said, "You just never know what you're going to get." If you want to see what I mean, try their songs "Hypnosis," "Revive," "Dissension," and "Adabana." All different, and all awesome. They are also the happiest little metal beasts I've ever seen. In interviews, they are sweet, funny, and grateful young ladies who truly appreciate and love their fans. No egos! That's one of the things I love about these Japanese bands. You often hear about western bands who actually hate each other, and simply stay together for the money. You will not find that in these Japanese bands. For all three of the bands, not only are they awesome bands, they are also awesome people. I had given up on rock/metal music for the last 20 years or so, and only listened to classical music. These young ladies have restored my love of metal music again. Peace!

Its a misconception that "Life" was written for Tamu. Mayu actually wrote the lyrics after auditioning at Show-Ya 's Naon Yaon festival to be a "Cute Girl" opening act when she was still in Lipstick. Naon is held at the famous outdoor venue Hibiya in Tokyo. Lipstick didn't get an opening act spot and Mayu wrote "Life" lyrics with dreams of one day singing it at Hibiya. Here's a link to Mayu explaining the origin of "Life". Its a conversation with Keiko Terada from Show-Ya and its promo for a Show-Ya vs Nemophila tour. It has embedded English subs. There are two parts and Mayu talking about writing "Life" is in Part 1. I'm just wanted to share so fans get the real reason behind why she wrote it but it still doesn't take away from the tribute to Tamu. You will probably never find a more fun band - or, for that matter, a better band. Mayu can can scream or sing clean. They can do all styles from rap to pop to pop-punk to full-on, crushing metal. They love to pay tribute to songs and acts they love, either by covering songs or by emulating the feel of classic tracks in their album tracks. One of the songs on the new album sounds very Sum 41, while another is clearly influenced by the instrumentation of MCR's 'Welcome to the Black Parade'.

There are at least two reasons you haven’t heard about any of these Japanese band. Japan has a large and lucrative entertainment industry. The music business still thrives on selling $30 CDs and $69 DVDs. They are not focused on promoting overseas. The other reason is that the typical response from American hearing a Japanese song is, “I don’t know what they’re saying!” NEMOPHILA have many more than two styles, as you will hear when you listen to the other tracks on their new $30 CD (streaming here in America). But first watch the demo version of OIRAN, the video recorded in their studio (not the live version). And they’re also made dozens of videos for covers of songs by Japanese and Western bands. The Japanese songs are more interesting. Watching those deliver a two-fer: you can see other sides of NEMOPHILA and also hear the music of other Japanese bands you’ve never heard of. The ladies are, from left to right: HAZUKI (Gt.), HARAGUCHI-SAN (Ba.), MAYU (Vo.), MURATA TAMU (Dr.), SAKI [A.K.A., Chucky] (Gt.) They all have professional experience prior to NEMOPHILA. HAZUKI is active with the LISA-X BAND. MURATA has an endorsement deal with Tama drums. SAKI is still playing with MARY’S BLOOD (another all-female Metal band). NEMOPHILA can take you down a deep rabbit hole, indeed.

On the song Life, in earlier days, Murata Tamu the drummer was out having her baby. During that time, they realized how much they missed her absence. They are not whole without her. She is undoubtably the best for this band. And well liked by all. Thats why they are all facing her for this new song. They record it that way. When she hears the words in japanese she starts crying, because the only way, and even if they don't make it, It doesn't matter just as long as we fail together. After knowing this, when I saw this video for the second time. I teared up. I never get tired of hearing it. the genre is a nice change also like you said

Yes, Nemophila is amazing. So much talent coming out of Japan. You need to check out Galneryus: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIWY0dWnoNDeY5s.html And also Wagakki Band: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4yKzMN_od3MfdI.html SYU-san is a guitar wizard, and Yuko Suzuhana is a goddess.

So glad you got to experience Nemophila. Another band that doesn’t let themselves be pigeon holed into one genre. You got a sample of that here. Listen to their song “Hypnosis” and get a feel of how different they can be. (It’s one of my favourite songs of theirs and the video is really well done) They have same one-two guitar punch that Lovebites does. And all 4 of them, including Tamu the drummer, sing back up.

Enjoyed the reaction. You asked about the tuning on "Seize the Fate". The song is in D, but they're playing 7-strings and barring the root chord at the 3rd fret. So definitely standard 7-string B tuning.

My second favorite band, though the gap has narrowed siginificantly in the last two years. 🔥🤘🏻 I think the combo you picked out here is excellent. STF is a fine example of the brute and thick sound they can deliver, while Life is for me the masterpiece of the ladies so far, and with its message and anthem feeling generally among my most favorite songs ever. A lot of damn good original songs, but also their cover catalog has a lot to offer, so you will have a lot of fun with this band. :) Of their covers, 'Kurenai' by X Japan is the best cover of this song in general for me. If you ever have this on your schedule, I can only recommend you to check out the original 'Last Live' version first. X Japan is certainly one of the most impressive examples of the fact that the Japanese music market has been producing some damn good stuff for a long time now that we just don't hear anything about here in the West. 🤷🏻‍♂ _____________________ 【 _Till I return to dust I will stand alone in the dark with my pride at the end of time_ 】--- *Nemophila* - '徒花 -Adabana-' 💮

Mayu's English pronunciation isn't that good yet and she doesn't understand a lot of English, which isn't helping for this. But she is clearly getting better and seems to be working very hard on it. I believe she basically learns how to sing the words phonetically at the moment. Saki (the guitarist on the right of the screen) knows English quite well including speaking English in interviews and translating for the rest of the band in live shows and during their shows in the US and their online streams where they are talking to the audience. She also wrote some of the lyrics for some of their songs. They are a very diverse band. I personally gravitate towards their heavier stuff, but I think most people who like any form of rock or metal should be able to at least find some songs by them they enjoy. Nemophila has only been around for 3 years, but they are basically some sort of supergroup since all of the members played at least in one other band and right guitarist Saki and drummer Murata Tamu have a lot of experience playing in other bands or in short projects. They originally formed as a one-off project for singer Mayu, but decided to stay together because they liked working together. As far as the name goes, you are pronouncing it correctly. Nemophila is a type of flower with 5 petals, hence their logo.

Mayu is doing great. Nothing but love for her. She doesn't have to know English that well. Lots of Americans suck at English. Music is about melody and emotion. Nemophila has it. That's what counts.

@@TheCyberMantis I am not saying she needs to know English, I personally don't care, but I do know it's the main reason why it's difficult to decipher if their lyrics are in English or Japanese. I am also not saying Mayu isn't doing a good job with her vocals, her vocal tone is extremely recognizable and is one-of-a-kind. Luckily Nemophila sings in both Japanese and English, because I personally prefer that over Japanese bands that fully sing in English, but that I (especially as a non-English native speaker) can't understand until I read the lyrics. I much prefer Band-Maid (and Nemophila's) mold as far as lyrics go over Bridear's for example (or Lovebites). The only reason I brought it up is because the video was talking about it being in English or not. I like music with vocals, but I probably even prefer instrumental music over it myself. I don't need a vocalist to feel music at all, so I certainly don't care what language they are singing in and I haven't done so for 20+ years. I have listened to all kinds of metal in Scandinavian languages, Finish and who knows what else. Japanese doesn't bother me whatsoever, especially since I am trying to learn it for at least 5 years (way before I started diving into these bands). I typically treat a vocalist like an instrument anyways as I don't even try to understand lyrics until at least a couple of listens. So no worries, I don't really have anything bad to say about Nemophila's music with the exception that not all tracks are necessarily for me. But I love plenty of them and they are still high up there for me on my favourite Japanese bands-scale. No need to to put the "they don't sing in English, so they are not good" label on me, I have been listening to non-English (and non-Dutch) music for over half of my life.
