    For me there is no other band like this, both musically and as people. There are a couple of bands who come close (Gacharic Spin and Band-Maid), and plenty of other Japanese bands I love, but Nemophila is special. This song is very important to me for many reasons but perhaps not as important as it is to the band. Even now, 'Life' is a very emotional song for them and Mayu quite often succumbs to tears and struggles to get the whole lyric out. They put everything they have into what they do and that shows when they bare their souls and open their hearts during performances and interviews. Tears are common (from me as well as them). At the time of this video, as people have said, Tamu had just returned from maternity leave and the band welcomed her back and then performed 'Life' to her, which is why Mayu has her back to the room and is facing Tamu. The song was already in their repertoire but it was perfect for the occasion. A little about the members: Vocalist Mayu is also a mother: she is conspicuously pregnant in several of their live performance videos. She occasionally shares baby pics on social media. Tamu, the drummer has two young children who sometimes make cameo appearances in the band's KZread videos. The two 7-string guitarists are Hazuki (on our left of the screen) and SAKI (on our right). Both share lead and rhythm duties. A common format is for them to take turns during the solo section of a song and then come together for a harmony part as the solo section ends. Bass player Haraguchi-san (known to fans and the band as Hara-chan) is the same age as Mayu and they are the youngest members. They are also the two most emotional. The band came together as a backing band for a project of Mayu's but found that they wanted to continue as a full band. Guitarist SAKI had long experience as guitarist and songwriter for metal band Mary's Blood so they chose her to be band leader. The other guitarist, Hazuki, is also in a band named KOIAI with the amazing young shredder Li-sa-X. This is one of Nemophila's several melodic/ballad songs. Most of their output to date has been various flavours of metal but always with some kind of positivity incorporated, or a melodic chorus to soften the harshness. They also like to experiment with other styles: pop, punk, rap, hard rock etc and, most recently, a spectacularly beautiful 80s/90s style power ballad. Welcome to Nemophila.

    Early days for you and Nemophila, but you already have a good understanding of them. They are simply 5 beautiful people who found each other and became instant friends. And they are seriously good musicians. Captions available on a lot of their work, helping you with more of the great lyrics. Cheers.

    Oh Boy.... You have done it now.. Well everyone in the coments has told you the back story so won't go into that.. Nemophila is probably best discribed as 5 best friends doing what they love better than anyone else out there.. Show me a band today that can produce originals like this and cover Metalica's Master of puppets, System of a down's Sugar, Kiss's Detroit rock city in full make up, Journey's Separate ways, Iron maidens Aces high, other bands they cover, Baby metal, Maximum the hormone, Linkin park, Sekima II, Skid row, Nickelback, Foo fighters, Rage against the machine, and more.. The singer mayu is one of the most versitile singers I have ever heard and a Mom with a child under 5. The drummer Tamu is one of the best in Japan, also plays Piano, Keys, Xylophone Drums Guitar and saxaphone, oh and is also a Mom with 2 children under 5, Saki and Hazuki play 7 strings and are one of the best dual leads around. Haraguch san on bass (5 string) is a beast.. You have so much to see from these Beautiful, talented ladies if you choose, and if you do, us fans will be right here with you, great reaction, looking frward to more from you.. Best wishes from France.. PS.. Band-maid and Nemophila.... LOL You have just scratched the surface, The all female Rock and metal scene from Japan is kickin a** and takin names.. Lovebites, Gacharic spin, Trident, Hagane, East of Eden, Aldious, to name just a few more bands for you...

    Actually, I thought it would be fun to go the polar opposite and let's just give me the hardest screamo she does. Would that be Zen? Knowing what she is capable at this level will give me a greater appreciation of how she is as a scream singer.@@WhirlwindMediaStudio

    Mate! Great song to start with Nemophila. A bit more mellow/emotive than much of their catalogue, but _definitely_ a Nemo song. No doubt someone will explain why they're facing the drummer... and you might notice drummer Tamu's tears.

    According to the band, this was a live stream on 8/22 but the song was published like 3 years ago? Tamu, the drummer, had just come back from maternity leave and they all said a few words and dedicated the song to her before the performance. This explains them standing in a circle facing her during the performance. It's my understanding that it was also Hazukis Birthday. Aldo-metal explained some of this to me so he may know more.

  • @kicorse

    @kicorse

    Yep that's all correct (the 8/22 is 22nd Aug 2020). A further detail is that the band hadn't existed for long when drummer Tamu Murata went on maternity leave, and she was very worried about how the news would be received. This was all during the pandemic of course. Vocalist Mayu wrote the lyrics.

    I'm enjoying your exploration of some of my favourite Japanese bands, and I Iike your reaction format - subscribed. You've covered 3 of the Japanese Big 4 (in terms of overseas exposure), in Babymetal, Band-Maid and now Nemophila (and you can add Hanabie & Gacharic Spin amongst others to the growing J-Rock Revolution). One biggie to go - Lovebites. They are an all female heavy metal band. Their official YT channel has several recent live performances, although many reactors cut their teeth on the 2020 performance of Holy War. I'd actually suggest Swan Song or Liar from the recent releases, to demonstrate their versatility. Cheers.

    @@LegacyStudio The band in interviews pronounce it as Neh-mo-phil-a. When I saw the ladies live in Japan the lead singer Mayu joked with the band and the audience how westerners say Neemo and not Neh-mophila. I've seen Saki once in a US tour interview say Neemo but its after listening to the guy interviewing her say it continually. I think she didnt want to hurt his feeling by correcting him. I just watched an interview of Herman Lee from Dragon Force with Saki and she pronounced it Neh-mophila. No finding Nemo in Nemophila.
