Great cover! These ladies are the Queens of covers and they love to pay homage to the original artists like doing make up or dance moves or what they wear. They go the extra mile and I love them for it. I am still blown away by how fast Tamu's feet are going in this song.. just unbelievable.

I discovered Nemophila when I watched the video of them covering Iron Maiden's Aces High. I have been a huge Maiden fan since I discovered them in 1982 while in college. When I watched them covering Aces High, two things stood out. First was my surprise to see Saki in the band (he is the stage left guitarist) because I knew her from a really good band called Mary's Blood. The second was the vocals of Mayu. She knocked the vocals out of the park and has the best pure rock voice of any Japanese female vocalist I have ever heard. I was not surprised that they were great musicians. Japanese musicians are typically great and I was already very familiar with Band-Maid and Lovebites. Also, Saki would not surround herself with lesser musicians. Nemophila formed in 2019, when Mayu and her friend, the bassist Haraguchi-san, had each left their respective bands. Mayu wanted to get some musicians together for a one time project, likely to allow her to test out her rock/metal vocals. She, of course asked her friend to play bass. They were also able to get Tamu Murata, a well respected session drummer. The guitarist Hazuki was available because her band, the very good but short-lived Disqualia, had ended in 2017. Saki was the major addition to the project, as she was Japanese rock/metal royalty at this time. The five had instant chemistry and soon decided that the one time project should become a permanent band. Saki joining Nemophila along with the disappointing sales of Mary's Blood 2021 album effectively ended Mary's Blood who had their farewell concert in April, 2022. Nemophila recently had their first US tour. I saw then in March at their Dallas show. They played in a small venue (less than 500 capacity) and the show was not sold out which still shocks me. I was 5 feet from the stage right in front of Saki. Nemophila put on a fantastic show and I have no doubt their next visit to Dallas will be much better attended. Band-Maid had a similar small crowd when they played Dallas in 2019 (before I had ever heard of Band-Maid) and sold out their Dallas return this past October (I was part of the 1000+ crowd). Here is the link to their Aces High cover - kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6OFo9ipmazKfto.html as well as a link to their live performance (a covid no crowd festival live stream) of a song called Oiran - kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y22Ks5utm7rRo7Q.html Enjoy!

NemophilA are my favorite band. They played this song at their first ever live gig together. They also did Rusty Nail by X-Japan in one of their livestreams which is cool. They have great covers of Japanese bands. Their Maximum the Hormone covers being my favorites. Their original music with an EP and 2 albums is first class. Their worst song would be any other bands really good song. RAITEI (Thunder) is their first music video. Because they have so many great songs why not go to the start and watch the progression. I saw them live in Japan 2 weeks ago and they are ridiculous good live. A must see on anyones live metal music calender and yes, Rest in Peace "hide".

I think that adorable smile on the drums, who goes by the name of Tamu Murata, will disagree with you that this song is fun to play. 😂 However, it should be added that this wasn't her first time playing it perfectly either. There are several other versions of her performing this song here on YT. She is not for nothing one of the most respected drummers in Japan. In general, this one is by far the best cover of 'Kurenai', at least as far as I'm concerned. As you said at the beginning, the wonderful and especially respectful intro and the fun from start to finish written on everyone's face. In general, this one is by far the best cover of 'Kurenai', at least imho. As you said at the beginning, the wonderful and especially respectful intro and the fun from start to finish written on everyone's face. In addition, they have managed the balancing act to remain as true to the original as possible, but still give it their own touch. 🤘🏻You can say that about pretty much every cover from the ladies, of which they have accumulated quite a few on their channel over the years. But especially with their own songs they know how to impress! _____________________ _"You think I'm laughing because I'm happy? Nemophila is my favourite band. I particularly love their covers: they always pay some kind of little tribute to the bands they cover: sometimes they recreate scenes from the original music vid; sometimes they wear the makeup or hairstyles of the artist, sometimes it's a t-shirt or some band merch. They did a great cover of Foo Fighters 'Walk' where mayu (the singer) was wearing Grohl facial hair and a sharpie tattoo drawn on her arm. Foos are her favourite band. This cover impressed the hell out of me - partly, I guess, because it is one of the few X Japan songs I really know, and partly because Nemophila worked so damned hard playing it - especially drummer Tamu. Great reaction, bro. I'm another old (probably older than you) metalhead, so I've subbed out of solidarity, lol.

Wow, you got right on that one! Nemophil-a (NOT “Nemophil-i-a) were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of: ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” kzread.info/dash/bejne/l62WlLCtgNrJqMY.html The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” kzread.info/dash/bejne/enqip7uhkqinoco.html After Oiran, others to check include "Dissension", which will fry whatever is left of your circuits: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGqVr9eamNvgaMY.html and “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npxhxriFe7OZYZc.html More recent drops that showcase their intensity and versatility: “Adabana” kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6yNy7Gwo9icp7g.html “Style” kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6Scl6mIfpnYgMY.html (written by their bassist, Haraguchi-san) “Seize the Fate” kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zqikya6yk868ico.html “Rise” kzread.info/dash/bejne/pHhnuK96nZCfmaQ.html Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a great metal vocalist. They just toured the U.S. (their second go at performing here): I saw them live and they blew the roof off the place. This is why Nemophila are my favorite metal band.... even moreso than lovebites.... ridiculous skills, akin to lovebites, but much more versatility in their choices of genres... and they are more raw, and aren't afraid to give us tons of covers all the time (like a new one every week)... without worrying about million dollar mixes. I Mean, I wish their mixes were better, but I'd rather have more amazing content from them like this.. and it's raw and honest. Saki (guitarist with the graffiti art amp and the guitar named "Killer") is a legend in Japan and was in a major band already (Mary's blood), and left that group to go full time with Nemophila. Tamu (drums) is one of the greatest drummers in the world, let alone a first call in Japan. In some metal festivals she has filled in for other band's drummers when needed, and she sight reads music of literally any complexity without issues... crazy time signatures etc.. and is a mult instrumentalist. But that is just the stories of those two because they are most famous. The other 3 are legendary too... Hazuki (ibanez guitars, glasses) is an INCREDIBLE guitarist... credited sometimes as "technical lead guitar" because she does all of the craziest technical two handed stuff while looking like a librarian LoL, singer Mayu is actually more famous as a scream metal singer, and she brought in her friend from school to play bass (Haraguchi-san), who happens to be an AMAZING bassist, and for the first year of the band's success just always looked so incredibly happy to be playing in this band with world famous legends in it... but she deserves the job, and has proven to be a top rung bassist with a cool stage presence, and has composed some of their songs. Their ages range from 25 to 31. Vocalist is the youngest by a few months. Saki is eldest, drummer next eldest.

I know a bit more than a little, but don't want to seem like a smartass either. It's not a Japanese word though. It is written ネモフィラ which is written in Katakana, which, for those who don't know, is used for words loaned from other languages. It is actually the genus of a flower. So, if anything I suppose one could say it is Greek... I didn't know it was a flower. I looked it up. So, that makes Google the real smartass here. Anyway, I appreciate the correction, and will endeavor to read the Greek names of Japanese bands I've never heard of before more carefully to avoid offending their fans.

@@TheAncientMetaler-1963 Your reply to my little critique with respect to Nemophila encourages me to give you a longer reply. If I should bother you with this, I apologize! First of all I would like to thank you for your answer. I heard you speak a few words of Japanese (with good pronunciation btw!) in the first of your reaction videos I watched. So my guess was that you had (at least) some basic knowledge of the language. About 40 years ago, I studied Japanese as a minor at university for four years. Later, my life took a different direction - and I completely forgot my Japanese. The lockdown period three years ago made me - now retired - look around a bit in the KZread world. I made amazing discoveries in the Japanese rock and metal music scene. I myself played rock guitar in a small band when I was young (not very well...) and was therefore totally surprised and enthusiastic about the level at which the Japanese musicians played, in particular the females. I then started to resume my Japanese studies, this time as a lonely wolf only with the help of the internet. That works quite well, but the difficulties of this language made me realize very quickly that I will probably never learn and master Japanese properly - especially not as an old man with a slowly weakening brain ….! Still, it's fun and a challenging brain’s exercise. Regarding metal music, which in Japan is played by female musicians to a greater extent (I think) than in any other country, I would like to give you a few suggestions; many of which you are probably already familiar with, but others perhaps not yet. Bands recommended to watch have already been mentioned to you by other commentators, you already know Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila, but of course there are many many more! Examples include Galneryus (male band) with their top guitarist Syu, Unlucky Morpheus with the wonderful violinist Jill and the Wagakki band, which combines traditional Japanese music with rock and metal in a unique way. So that my comment does not become excessively long, I would now like to limit myself to a few Japanese musicians who have particularly impressed me - and who are really worth taking a closer look at. The nominations do not imply any ranking - I list them as they come to my mind. They are all virtuosos anyway! Guitar: Miyako and Midori from Lovebites, Saki and Hazuki from Nemophila, Kanami from Band-Maid, Sakura from Hagane (just in hiatus), Yuki from D-Drive and rising stars Lisa-X and Hal-C (Haruka) from Asterism. And of course there are many more, all worth mentioning! But there is one musician I especially would like to emphasize: Miyako Watanabe, who is both a concert pianist (and could play with any symphony orchestra if she wanted to) and at the same time an excellent metal guitarist who, together with her colleague Midori, forms perhaps right now the best in the world Metal guitar duo. I've never seen anything like it in my (long) life! Drums: Akane (Band-Maid), Haruna (Lovebites), Tamu (Nemophila) and my personal favorite: Junna. Watching her videos on youtube is absolutely the most entertaining thing for me in drums! Even dragonforce drummer Gee Anzalone has called her cover of "Through the Fire and Flames" the best cover he knows. I am now very fortunate to have a ticket to a concert by the female "steampunk metal band" Fate Gear, who will be appearing on their European tour next month with Junna as a guest drummer in my hometown. I'm really looking forward to it! BTW: Fate Gear is also worth exploring on KZread - their "captain", Mina, is one of the mothers of the current generation of active female metal music in Japan. For reasons of limitation, I really have to refrain from further details here - the text is getting much too long anyway … And then, in the field of jazz fusion, Senri Kawaguchi and Kanade Sato should definitely be mentioned. Senri has long been known as one of the world's best drummers in this field, but Kanade (5 years younger) is also a huge talent. And of course you could also name many other female drummers from Japan, all of whom would be worth mentioning! Bass: The bassists of the 'big three' (Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila), Misa from Band-Maid (long in the business and one of the top female bass players in Japan), Fami new bassist of Lovebites (hugely talented, plays at world-class level, has almost 700,000 KZread followers and is still "infinitely" young at just 21 years old), Haraguchi (by Nemophila), whose playing I particularly like. Whenever I listen to Nemophila's “Dissension” again, I almost only pay attention to the bass lines, which are absolutely “catchy”. And then there is the KZreadr Mina (300,000) followers, who is not only "kawaii" and a top-level bass player, but also an all-round musician. And I could go on like this almost indefinitely - that's how big the Japanese rock and metal scene is that I've only discovered a small part of in the last few years! And at some point you get stuck with your favorite bands and musicians anyway, don't you? In any case, there is a lot to discover in the Japanese rock and metal scene and I hope you enjoy it! - 頑張って!! 😀😀😀💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘
