I’m 75 years old and I saw Janis in concert and to this day I still get chills listening to her sing. There was and I don’t think there will ever be another singer like Janis..Same with Elvis.
That's Janis' Kozmic Blues Band backing her up. Besides Janis on vocals the original band lineup was: Sam Andrew (lead guitar a holdover from her first band, Big Brother and the Holding Company), Terry Clements (tenor sax) Richard Kermode (organ), Roy Markowitz (drums), Terry Hensley (trumpet), and Keith Cherry (bass). Through the course of 1969, this lineup evolved several times.

I believe that was Brad Campbell on bass.

@@RCullis47 Ah ok. This guy on this recording is playing some nice stuff.
One of the most soulful performers of all time. Janis was soul, she gave us her soul.
The horns on "As good as you've been" on the same lp is phenomenal on both horns and vocals. Kozmic Blues Band was an incredible lineup ❤
Janis is the REAL DEAL. May she rest in peace.
It's sad to think of all the music we missed that Janis would've done had she not passed so young...💔 R.I.P. sweet lady

EXACTLY! It was only 3 or 4 years and she did 3 studio albums.
I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! is the debut solo and third studio album by Janis . released on September 11, 1969. It was the first album which Joplin recorded after leaving her former band, Big Brother and the Holding Company The Band on this record were called -the Kozmic Blues Band. who members for this album were: Sam Andrew - guitar, vocals Michael Monarch - guitar (uncredited) Mike Bloomfield - guitar (uncredited on original album.) on "Maybe", "One Good Man", "To Love Somebody" and "Work Me, Lord" Brad Campbell - bass guitar, brass instrumentation Richard Kermode - electronic organ, keyboards Gabriel Mekler - electronic organ, keyboards Goldy McJohn - electronic organ, keyboards (uncredited) Maury Baker - drums Lonnie Castille - drums Jerry Edmonton - drums (uncredited) Terry Clements - tenor saxophone Cornelius "Snooky" Flowers - baritone saxophone, backing vocals Luis Gasca - trumpet
I was a teenager in the 60’s and Janis Joplin has always been my favorite. We were all so devastated when she died 😢 Thanks for keeping her music alive and turning the youngsters onto great music. Love your videos darlin’ ☮️❤️👵🏼
A voice like no other. R.I.P.
Another dimension needed to feel her human spirit!!! Soar and sing with the angels!!! 💕💕🛸🛸👽👽
Good lord she is something else
The one artist who just breaks me. I've loved Janis for fifty plus years. (You're right. The kids used to disappear when Janis was on the turntable! They knew it wasn't just regular chores, it was hauling the sofa and chairs out into the sun to air out and floors stripped and scrubbed.. they used to freak out!)
A total "Free Spirit" as my Daddy would say 🥰✌️
Love the "kitchen" analogy. And wait 'till you get to Full Tilt Boogie.
Janis definitely did her own thing. She made everything she sang her own. Best female vocalist ever. !
I LOVE YOU JANIS!
I don't think anyone can recreate the sound and talent that is janis joplin. The band is fire as always.
Great reaction as always. Great singing, great band and the best humor from you.😄😄😄. Love you Van. You really bring me joy with your reactions. Peace and blessings.
My Daddy thought that Janice was the "White version of Ella Fitzgerald" of the 60's/70's and he was born in 1930
This was the Kozmic Blues Band, Sam Andrew - guitar. There were two different bassists in this band I am not sure which one is playing here, Brad Campbell or Keith Cherry - bass, backing vocals. Cornelius Flowers - baritone saxophone, backing vocals. Terry Clements - tenor saxophone. There were two different trumpet players in this band I am not sure which one is playing here, Luis Gasca or Terry Hensley - trumpet. There were two different keyboardists in this band I am not sure which one is playing here, Richard Kermode or Gabriel Mekler - keyboards. There were three different drummers I am not sure which one is playing here, Maury Baker, Lonnie Castille, or Roy Markowitz - drums.
Cosmic Blues Band. Back then the music was clean. She started with Janis Joplin and Mothers of Invention. This is Janis Joplin and the Cosmic Blues Band.
That Bari sax....I get it my friend!
Janis wrote a lot of her songs .She always payed respects to the Blues .Turtle Blues is a great example .It could be a biopic of her short life

I'm a huge JJ fan. No one sings like JJ but she was not known as a great song writer. The vast majority of the songs that made her famous were written by others and often already recorded by others. Her versions are the ones that stand the test of time.

She wrote many beautiful things but even Janis knew where she was from. She showcased music and artists that influenced her who didn't have a platform before the term influencer was a thing. She was also well aware of her space as a white woman. Idk when it became pasé to acknowledge these kinds of things.
Big Brother was a great group, like so many others of the era.

That's not Big Brother on that cut -- except for guitarist Sam Andrew.
"up in the crevices!" haha
Absolutely wonderful! You might like to try the original version of this song from the late 50's. A classic in it's own right by The Chantels with lead singer 15 year old Arlene Smith. Not Joplin soulful blues style, but a great doo wop song.
Just now finding out you've checked out Janis. I have to tell you about "Summertime" now that you've heard it. I remember as a kid watching on television a musical called "Porgy and Bess". It had an all Black cast and this song was in it. It tore the heart out of me at the age of 7 and Janis's version still does. It's not blues as much as pure soul. The rumor back then was that she loved Jimi Hendrix and it wasn't mutual. She OD'd about two weeks after he died. We always wondered.
Love the daughter intrusion! 😂
It was the "Full Tilt Boogie Band".
It takes me to a time I never existed in. I must admit, I'm probably being generous with 'mental embellishments' as to what my physical experience would be like at that time. However I draw alot from this song. I picked up on this album in 1994; Years after it's inception. I know she worked with Clive Davis. He turns out alot of winners. S
Cosmic blues
Only person I have heard sing from her toes up, like Janis, is Bekka Bramlett. Her soul wrings the music out.
Now you're making me hungry Janice is in the light something you need
Big brother and the Holding company was her official band. In fact, she joined their band.
Poor chick didn't even make it to 30...But if she'd lived, with this new band you hear her with on this song, she would've been dominant in the 70's and perhaps beyond that for sure.
"Big Brother and the Holding Company".
THE PRIDE OF PORT ARTHUR!!!
Her band was Big Brothers and the Holding company
I saw alot of Janis in Amy Winehouse, recommend check her out if you haven't 🙏 Both deep in to drugs but brought out some deep voices!
This is my favorite group of channels
Prince's band was "The Revolution"
Kozmic Blues Band
Kozmic blues band.
Or since. ♥
Ah man I was subscribed before but KZread must of f'ed up so just letting you know there's weird stuff like that going on but I took care of it and other than that theres no need to comment on this video because we both already know Janis is the goat.
Big Mama Thornton Ball and Chain
Listen to her live version of this, it's better. If that is possible.
Nice 👍 Z
4:50 on. Janis begins her choke hold. Heating up. Assaulting your emotions and ear holes. Relentless.
Big brother and the Holding co..is the name of her band I believe..And I agree her band killed it
Princes band in 80's was the New Power Generation?
she threw you lol
Your voice volume is really low on this channel. Cant hear you. Turn it up, or get closer
Sorry Van but kinda annoying pausing all the time , keep up the good content though , your doing good
WTF are you talking about ?!! ??
Please don’t sing/talk while the song is playing. Pause the song if you want to sing/talk.
Why do you do that? Why would you even want to f up a beautiful song with all that babbling on and on and on and on....WTF?
bro you talk too much man
OK that's it. I just unsubscribed. You're done. Goodbye. Good Riddance. I'll listen to Janis on my own so I can really truly hear her. The band is called the Kozmic Blues Band.
