Hello my friends. Janis was from Port Arthur, Texas. As you guys said, she wasn't just singing she was preaching in the gospel style. One in a trillion. No one had more grit, rasp, cracks, emotion than her. The Queen of Rock/Blues. When she was a teenager in EastTexas, she would sneak with friends to Louisiana to Black clubs to hear Blues. Like Elvis, she was called a N*##er lover, cause she supported all people of all races. Her inspiration was Bessie Smith, Black Blues singer. When she heard Bessie didn't have a head stone on her grave, she paid for one. Died in 1970 overdose, 17 days after Jimi Hendrix died. RIP Miss Janis. You are severely missed. God Bless Texas for your gift to us.

Janis' voice was polyphonic, meaning she sang at least two notes simultaneously. Janis didn't need fancy sets with special effects, back up choreographed dancers, and multiple designer costume changes in order to captivate her audience. She talent was raw, a one of a kind artist, and the UNDISPUTED QUEEN OF ROCK. I discovered her when I was 8 years old and we lost her when I was 11 years old. It was too soon. I never stopped loving her music.

I graduated in 1969, so I experienced Janis Joplin, a.k.a. "Pearl" as a teenager. She really shook our music culture up! From the Beatles to the 4 Tops, the Temptations & Smokey Robinson (Soul music), the Lettermen & the Association (soft harmony) . . . Joplin & Hendrix were like soaring comets 💫 blasting past our generation, self destructing until they both disintegrated at age 27. Such a pity.🥀

She was better than the make up wearing divas of any generation with her raw talent. She didn’t need to hide behind a mask as they did and still do. This song was originally done by The Chantels in 1957 :) You guys have reacted to another song by Janis called "Ball and Chain" which was originally written by Big Mama Thornton in 1959 :) Believe it or not, another famous song called "Summertime" performed by Janis, was originally written by George Gershwin in the early 30s and was performed by multiple artists including Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Janis Joplin is one of a kind and she has said herself that she surrounded herself w/ blues artists growing up. While the other kids in her class were listening to the rock n' roll of the 50s and 60s, she was listening to some of the greats like Bessie Smith and Odetta. Her influences were almost all black, female blues artists :) You guys should check out some stuff by these artists who influenced her, because they are all amazing in their own right!

Janice was from Lubbock Texas and she had no training but she used to listen to Betsy Smith. I think her name was Etta James who is one of my favorite singers in the whole world. I have every record of Janice and Etta James you are to get into her there’s nobody like her, I’m 78 years old now I can still remember going to Woodstock and seeing Janice for the first time with Jimi Hendrix in the rest of the Clearwater CCR all of them while I only lasted one day there early day and a half during the rain, but I will tell you this that girl was beautiful Your voice was just absolutely beautiful and she does have the same but Etta James has the same kind of soul deep down soul I’m a white girl and I can vouch for that. OK that’s that’s what I learned about soul and I was probably 15 maybe 1415 at the time now. You also asked about church yes I think shit that I know everything in the church I don’t know about Janice I think she did but I’m not sure she went to meet from home. They both had the same problem a heroin attic Other lives, Janice died at 27 just like Jimi Hendrix and the rest of them my name is Liz the queen very enjoyed and I’m glad that you really recognized what a great voice she was go for it try Etta James two I’d rather go blind. I’ll care for you another White girl ad is a black girl but another white girl that is very good as Beth Hart and Joe basmati just to give you a few hand side you know and if you look like that kind of music and plus he is an excellent guitar player and the other guitar player is Stevie Ray Vaughan straight from the soul played with BB King at it, Copeland, Bobby Copeland, those kind of people that’s what I was brought up on. Enjoyed your station. Thank you, Liz.😊

I too was a teenager when Janis was @ her prime. Cry Baby, take anothe piece of my heart, & Maybe songs became my favorites to this day! What an icon, a legend! God love you Janis & you are in His arms today!!! ❤
There will never be another Janis Joplin!
She's been my favorite since 1970 at 11 years old. She would love your reaction I'm sure. She could very easily control her voice, and hit notes that most of these auto tuners today wish they could. Shes from Port Arthur, Texas. Her early influences were Leadbelly, Bessie Smith, Aretha, Otis Redding. I still have all my albums, and books on her from early 70,s. Great, great reaction!!

Right. She died before knowing the full extent of people’s love for her music and for her. Thank God she left us with the best blues ever by a woman or maybe by anyone
As you're learning, Janis was an amazing preformer. When she was attending the University of Texas, she was voted "Ugliest Man on Campus" by frat boys. The joke was on them. Really enjoyed your great reaction. Keep it going.

Really? In the movie that mimicked her life she buys a car and smashes it to pieces on the lot. She had some pent up anger and yet she was and still is so lovable. I hope those frat boys got the karma they deserved.
GOD blessed her soul and she sang the heck out of it. RIP JANIS
Before auto tune and computers..... PERFECTION!!!!!!
She was a member of the infamous "27 club" along with fellow 60s stars, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison of The Doors. All three died of drug/alcohol related overdoses at age 27 in the same era. It is so strange. Thank God for audio and video of these great and historic talents.

It is odd but I sometime think God gets greedy and wanted them all, not just one, but all of them as was done with Freddie and David.
Ms. Joplin hailed from Port Arthur, Texas, right near that Louisiana border with Lake Charles. She got her music education in all those backwater roadhouses of the Gulf coast. Although she fled to the West Coast to chase her dreams, the Texas twang never left her.
This is such a treat! Try "Work Me Lord" Stockholm 1969. The girl had pipes!
Janis WAS Deacon Blues! She LIVED that life! Can I get an amen?😊

Amen 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Janis' voice was polyphonic, meaning she sang at least two notes simultaneously. Janis didn't need fancy sets with special effects, back up choreographed dancers, and multiple designer costume changes in order to captivate her audience. She talent was raw, a one of a kind artist, and the UNDISPUTED QUEEN OF ROCK. I discovered her when I was 8 years old and we lost her when I was 11 years old. It was too soon. I never stopped loving her music.
I've seen you loose it before (thinking Yes) but NEVER saw you get OUT OF YOUR SEAT. Thank you (both) for loving our Janis!!!!
💙💙💙💙💙... Do your thing, Ms. Janis!!!!!!!! So glad to see you two delving into her!!! There was no one like her!!!!
Great, Great, Great reaction to this performance. You guys are so respectful of talent and make interesting observations. Thank you.
Janis Joplin Live Sweden, Just as powerful as Ball and Chain, Gospel.. Work Me Lord... Her Ban Kicks Ass in this one..Work Me Lord
I remember as a kid of the 60's and 70's, we lost soo many great artists way too soon. Drugs and alcohol...😪
She is ONE of a kind! So sad that we lost her so early. Great reaction. Keep em coming!💙💙💙
It's called "soul"! She had more soul in her little finger than most singers had in their whole body! Rock on!
“ Raise Your Hand” with Tom Jones live is a hot funky delight that will take you to church!!!!! I was so lucky to see her live twice- including at the Monterey Pop Festival. Port Arthur, Texas- she drew from the soul greats! Nina, Tina, Otis, Aretha and Bessie Smith. She took off for San Francisco in the 60’s. She was brutally mocked in her home town because she didn’t wear makeup or pander to the “ go go girl” look.

She was better than the make up wearing divas of any generation with her raw talent. She didn’t need to hide behind a mask as they did and still do. She gave it live with no sound effects to make it other than what it was, nor did she need dancers and acrobats behind her distracting from the best female performance of all time. I was a generation behind but I caught up to her, much later but not to late
Saw her in concert..best performance ever! I still get chills listening to her sing.

she had a very hard life, especially in Texas, and she just pours out her soul / pain in her vocals. RIP JJ!
Guys, just listen to me. Anything Janis sings is from her heart and soul. I run out of superlatives in describing the way she affects everyone every time you hear sing. Her performance of "Ball And Chain", will verify what I said.
She is truly amazing! I hope to see you react to more of Janis! Maybe,"Cry, Baby " and" Me and Bobby McGee". Love her, and this reaction. I'm waiting for more of The Royal Scam too. Lol. Peace
That's what I call a reaction video! Bravo guys!
I genuinely enjoyed this 😊 Once you get the chance to experience Janis its an absolute game changer 💯 SHES INCREDIBLE!✨ She moves my soul every time🫶🏼 CHECK OUT WORK ME LORD LIVE IN STOCKHOLM 1969

She is timeless. RIP I still get a chill when I hear her
Summertime, Ball and Chain, Cry Baby, Piece of my Heart, Try and her best performance ever….Little Girl Blue performed live on the Tom Jones Show.
I was born too late. Janis was gone before I could appreciate her talent. That being said, after I heard her for the first time, I went and bought a CD of her greatest hits. She was pure raw emotion amped up 1000x. She was gone too soon. I am grateful to at least have had the privilege at least hear her voice.
The best performance by Janis of 'Maybe' is live in Germany. Try 'Work Me Lord' in Stockholm, also live and also stupendous .
The studio version of this song is my all time favorite Janis song.
If I may add a suggestion- try Robin Trower, "Bridge of Sighs" studio version, which transitions into "In This Place". Or "Fool and Me", from the same album.
Thanks for SEEING her. Hard for me not to cry when I watch her, because of everything you said: blood, sweat, tears, soul, pain, and all-out.
Check out her summertime live performance ❤ thanks for this!

You didn't just hear her music you felt her music vibrate through your whole body
Love Janis Joplin. That girl sang each note from her gut with such tremendous soul and feeling. Such a shame she lost her life so young like so many other huge talents back during that time. Thanks guys for reacting to her many songs. I have been watching the other tunes you posted with her. Love your comments - they are spot on!!
She's from Texas and was known as the Queen of the Blues. Live Ball and Chain and Work me Lord are fn CRAZY AMAZING.
I LOVE YOU JANIS !
A few top artists are beyond most humans - Janis, Joe Cocker, Freddie Mercury and SRV come to the top of the mind. Summertime studio version is a must!

Goosebumps every time, every song! Please listen to "Cry Baby" the live version.
I was lucky enough to see Janis and this band live. She was better in person than on record. Absolutely incredible. Check out Try (Just a little bit harder). I know you'll love it!
If you want to see her interviewed and singing, look up her interviews on the Dick Cavett Show from the early 70's. I think you can find them on KZread.

On the double Album Janis, there are interweu's of Dick Cavett between the songs, in one of the Lp's, there are songs where we can hear how she was singing in the beginning ‼️🎯JazzyT.
I saw this in my suggestions and immediately subscribed, even before watching lol Y'all did Janis. That was enough for me to subscribe. Awesome reaction!!
It’s interesting that you mention where she would have gone if she hadn’t died so young. The fact that she could sing harmony with herself is one indication of what we could’ve experienced. She had a lot of tricks in her pocket, but unfortunately we never got to hear them. RIP my dear sister.
THANK YOU, MY FAVORITE JANIS SONG and that's saying something.
The one and only Janis, so unique. I absolutely love her, this performance is one of my favourites - although it's hard to choose. I would recommend you watch Ball and Chain live at Monteray (her major break). Also Little Girl Blue on The Tom Jones show is absolutely heartwrenching ❤❤
She was a beast. Wonderful. She is from Texas
I cant wait until yall start reacting to her studio versions
Guys- definitely check out Tedeschi Trucks Band! Susan Tedeschi has a bluesy amazing voice, plays slide blues guitar. Her husband Derek Trucks is a former Allman Brother’s Band guitarist! You’ll love them!
Ten years after. I'd love to change the world. 1971. 🔥
IM SO THRILLED YOU GUYS LIKE OUR MUSIC....NATIONS CAN CHANGE WITH MUSIC. IM FIFTY-THREE AND HAD JANIS AS AN "AUNTE" WHEN i WAS 6...
Joni. Still getting the chills listening to her
One of my favorite songs.
The original song was done by the group “The Chantels” featuring Arlene Smith. Great great voices!!!
There is a really great interview w/ her on the Dick Cavett Show where she talks about going back home to Port Arthur, TX for her high school reunion. It will touch your soul!
She was from Port Arthur Texas part of the Golden Triangle..........Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange.............some incredible talent came from here.......Edgar and Johnny Winter (Beaumont) to name one......one of Janis Joplin's classmates at Port Arthur Jefferson High was a guy named Jimmie Johnson (Miami, Dallas Cowboys coach).......he would play college ball at Arkansas with one Jerry Jones and win the NAt'l Title in 1964
Immortale 👏👏👏👏👏👏
True soul comes from hardships overcome.
Port Arthur, Texas is where she's from
We lost Janis far soon at the young age of 27, I miss her still😊
Summer time is amazing
great reaction guys....ive heard a story were she was interviewed and told she sld be more careful with her voice.. she said "so u are saying i sld be singing more mediocre now so that i can sing mediocre in the future?" ..u sld also check out the late performances in toronto 71 like "cry baby"...the intro will blow u away (-;
Try "Me and Bobby McGee". Released just after her death, it is easily her biggest hit. It's not one of these live barn-burners- it has a more conventional country vibe. She was just finding the right line up, the best band for her and the best groove for her art. Fucking drugs, man.

A fun performance of hers is one with Tom Jones Raise Your Hands!! You won't regret it. So fun to see her lighter side.
All of her influences are blues, r&b, gospel and jazz. Some of her biggest influences were. Bessie Smith, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Tina Turner, Memphis Minnie, Odetta, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Nina Simone. The list could probably go on forever.
Janis was from Port Arthur, Tx.
Thats how we roll in Texas. Come on out to Calvary Church, in Irving, Texas LOL
Janis paved the way for Chaka Khan and Stevie Nicks to become the Legendary artist in music industry with their stage present vocal style and unique fashion
You guy's should check out THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL videos. That was the Friday night TV concert for us teenager's. Also Don Kirshner's Rock Concert TV show
GOAT
There is another American TV program that she sang Maybe . Her voice was more clear plus we witnessed her amazing range and how powerful it was .
Summertime too
Hey Guys, love Janis. You need to react to “a woman let lonely” great song from Janis
Janis could SANG 🔥🔥
