At age 16, Matt Corby auditioned for the 5th season of Australian Idol in 2007 where he finished as runner-up! I'm in Texas, USA and I'm probably one of the few Americans that actually got to see Australian Idol, I always downloaded the episodes with Bit-Torrent at the time. I loved the show and I really liked Matt a lot, he was my favorite and what a talent. I'm really glad he's still around and in the business doing what he does best, thanks for posting this video, a very pleasant surprise indeed! You should check out Matt singing Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" from Acoustic Night on Australian Idol Season 5, 2007. He's just 16 singing this and he is just simply amazing. I love that you'd had a lot to say during the song, analysing his singing really well, then it gets to that end and you were just speechless like he'd sucked all the air out of the room with that finish. The song is a rollercoaster and Matt strings you along before crashing you back to earth with the ending.

Haha i was lucky enough to be a frequent of a bar called The Cove where Matt(was the house band) I watched him go from a decent voice coming 3rd place on Australian Idol. To one of my favourite vocalists ever. You trying to mimic him was so funny ahha

i read through a heap of comments but no one provided much context to his performance here or the song. there is this same video from triple j but with the explanation at the beginning from matt. he wrote this song after he stuffed up his relationship with his best mate after he (matt) made a serious mistake. he knew he fucked up. everything you see in this version isn't performance or an act.. it's raw emotion.
