Unpopular opinion: Mr. Walsh always knew on some gut level that Dylan was trash and would hurt Brenda. Everyone thinks he was overprotective and overbearing but it turns out he was right. Also, Kelly was jealous and insecure and couldn’t even be happy for her friend being affirmed by a teacher in a newly discovered talent. Like it would have killed Kelly to just be supportive and encouraging. Both Dylan and Kelly suck.

Mr. Walsh was probably right about Dylan in many ways, but the way he treated Brenda trying to control her personal life while being ok with Brendon doing whatever he wanted, was not right at all.

I love that they did this for Donna. It makes sense that if she was struggling with school core classes, that maybe she was just more of a creative mind.

Eh... that would mean creative people on the whole struggle with academia which, generally speaking, isn't the case. But I think I know what you meant: Because of her learning disability it was a kind plotline to have her find a talent to boost her self-esteem.

Good for Donna. Everyone has to have a fun talent.

@@janalove64 even though I have always been on Brenda team, rewatching the show as an adult, I'd say he became someone Brenda shouldn't date since this moment he yelled at her for the first time. Which was their first date! This was such a massive red flag, border line abusive, and she still went for it! I don't blame her, I had a very similar experience too, but now I think no matter how valid the reasons were for Dylan to be mad, Brenda is not a punching bag, and especially if he allows this behaviour from the start, it's very unlikely he will treat her right in the future.

The Dylan/Kelly relationship isn't inconsistent when you think about it (Kelly has always been physically attracted to him, and it's mutual), but the basis of this relationship is so superficial. Dylan seems to be looking for someone more "free" than Brenda (i.e. without an intrusive family), and Kelly seems to be especially attracted to the forbidden fruit: I have no right to like this guy, so I love it. While Brenda and Dylan are both extremely different (they bring a lot to each other with their differences) and in the same vibration: both passionate about art, literature, cinema, like to explore different points of view... The Dylan/Kelly relationship is shaky from the start.

Dylan should have told kelly to leave if he really wanted to work things out with Brenda

I think he had already made up his mind...

She's one of those people that has to be the center of attention in all things, and if she is not, she gets jealous. Huge personality flaw. I know way too many people like this, and they are all born under the sign of Aries or Leo.

Donna and Dylan had very little interaction, but Brenda was a valued member of our team for years on end and we have been working hard on getting her back to work

Pairing kelly with Dylan kinda lowered the level of the true friendship of the 3 of them,I think it was a big mistake overall in the show .pairing them with outsiders would have been better than seeing their friendship go down the drain.

It definitely felt like a mistake (I mean if you were fans of Dylan and Brenda) but after this show did the love triangle storyline with the two best friends, it seemed to cause all the other teen shows after to do the same thing 😂

I didn’t see it if he did, she admitted to throwing herself at him a few times before and admitted to doing it when he and Brenda started dating but he rejected her every time until Brenda went to Paris.

....ok....some observations...It's long.... (cont.) 1. Dylan was feeling pressured into committing WHOLLY to Brenda, while she's figuring out her future....Kelly was an 'easy fix' (4:30), and the writers played up to it.....NOT realizing the LARGE fanbase of Dylan / Brenda fans.....STILL, to this Day.... 2. ...while Donna's drawing IS nice, it's not exactly 'Art' ...more like FASHION...It would've been more plausible to have the Art Teacher direct Donna into FASHION, which would've been more believable (0:24)... unlike, her Paris, "...eUU, can be ah ZUPPER-MOD-ELLE..." Photo shoot... and, WHO wears a Red Dress to a SKETCHING CLASS!?? (0:43) 3. ....speaking of 'dress', WHY can't Teen Girls dress like BRENDA!? ...that cute 'Annie Hall' influenced ensemble is ADORABLE! (1:30) ....unlike, the continuity of the the filming....what happened to the BREEZE!?? (2:06) ...ha-HAA!!

Luke Perry is the one who came up with that storyline. The cast was always on the outs with Shannen as she was difficult to work with, but I heard later on that Jennie was a nightmare too. Donna did go into fashion in college and later opened her own clothing store after college. I think Brenda looked gorgeous in this episode and really improved every season. I love her hair.

His outburst to Valerie about Brenda and her parents proves that. And Dylan only chose Kelly when he was mad at Brenda or when Brenda wasn't around. And when he called Kelly his so callec soulmate, the next thing he did was to throw himself at Brenda by wanting her back but you see Brenda was not like the blonde and she stopped it so honey sit down
