I honestly think 22 became the cool eyeshadow girl in Inside Out. Not just because she’s Asian and could have immigrated to San Francisco, but in the end credits she is shown to have a lot of fear being hidden behind a cool facade, much like 22 in the movie Soul.

I fully expected 22 to be born as Joe's child. They drop hints of Joe's 'relationship' with a woman named Lisa throughout the movie, so I was expecting her to show up at the end with their baby, and Joe recognizes them as 22. In the end though, it's probably better left unsaid who 22 becomes.

I like the idea that 22 is just 22. They are their own character. 22 becoming an already known Pixar character, for me, ruins all the imagination viewers can have. As far as I’m concerned 22 ended up being born in Asia, living their life happily. And I’m fine with knowing just that.

Not only that, but it completely goes against the entire point of the film, which says that "chosen ones" don't exist, and that you don't need to have one explicit purpose. To make them into an important, beloved pre-existing character would be shooting the film's message in the back.

Hopefully they’ll make another soul movie though.. where joe is older and 22 is the age “22”. Then she and him gets in an accident and they both meet again in the great beyond as she helps him find his meaning for life again.

I really want 22 to just be 22 not anyone else we know. At some point in the future a short or movie about who she becomes would be cool.

That’s what I theorized in a comment on another channel. We don’t know if she was born on a vacation, being station in the military, or if the family just moved. She could be Riley if Riley was conceived or born in China but still either born or just raised in the U.S.A.

Except that 22 can't be Mei. Mei Lee was born around the year 1990 (the movie Turning Red takes place in the year 2002). 1990 was well before smart phones like Joe's student Caleb was using at the opening scene of Soul (probably taking place around year 2019-2020).

I shall correct you with the power of hindsight after watching Turning Red: 1. Turning Red takes place in 2002, when Meilin Lee is 13, hence she was born in 1989 2. Even though she is of Chinese ancestry, Turning Red takes place in Toronto, Canada, nowhere near China.

Would be cool if there would come Soul 2. Soul 2 could be about 22. Maybe she kept her memories from her whole life before and she is trying to find Joe. But Joe is an old man by now and is about to die. And she wants to help him to live on and is trying to get him to the great before to start new from the beginning.

The Filmmakers scrapped a few ideas (interviewed): Docter: We did a couple of 'em, but the one that I was thinking of was that Joe is a teacher and he hears a knock at the door and there's a kid who's like, "I really don't like piano." The mom's like, "Come on, Mr. Garner is going to teach you," and she does these little things that Joe's like, "Wait a second. I know who that is..." And yet, somehow it wasn't satisfying. It just wasn't satisfying. We had a couple of other ones too. Murray: We talked about so many different ideas, but it felt weird that she would end up in New York. Like, there's the entire world and they both end up there. So, I think we had one version that she was in India and you see her in a moment as a baby and you could tell it's her.

Doesn’t really matter what 22’s personality is because it’s human counterpart will be different

I'm with you on this one, Isaac. 22 became a normal person who enjoyed the supposedly little things in life. Granted, Mei's parents could simply move to wherever she ends up growing up before Turning Red's story even starts, but I don't think we should put the burden of following Soul up on. that movie anyway. The Pixar Theory is fun, yes, but we can have the movies stand on their own. I do look forward to how you and your peers tackle Luca though!

I really love your analysis. I feel the same way, and one of the reasons why I love Soul so much. It's better to not know who 22 becomes but to know that she's somewhere on Earth living life

Ok, hear me out with an open mind, I’ve a few points to point out and bring attention to. 1. The Spirit realm is not bound by time. They can defy time- go back in it or go forward in time. 2. I’m positive that Earth isn’t the ONLY planet in space that has life. But for the sake of not confusing the audience and the limited window of time and context- they’re focusing on ONE of the planet portals and that’s Earth. 3. Perhaps not all souls are destined for one era in time, as we see everyone diving towards Earth, the individual souls could be “assigned” a time to go to- forwards or backwards. 4. With the few points that I presented- go watch the trailer for Raya. I’m positive that Soul 22 is the dragon.

Can you do a theory about what could happened to Snow White's father, The King, before the events of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves? Because I want to know if he died in a war against an enemy kingdom like it happened in the book "Fairest of them all: A Tale of a Wicked Queen", or maybe simply the Evil Queen poisoned him to take over the kingdom.

this is gonna sound strange but it bothers me that the souls ONLY go to Earth. If I was a new soul I'd want to go to a planet far far FAAAAAAR away from Earth's solar system.

Soul Theory-Can Souls be Reborn?

This might seems crazy, as it have nothing to do with Pixar. I believe that theyll become the Perseverance Soul from Undertale for a couple reasons 1. 22's pass have a Donkey as the core symbol, hinting towards their core personality trait being stubbornness, with Perservance and Stubbornness being so similar 2.The ball game quote for the Perseverance soul(Even when you felt trapped, you took notes and achieved the end of "Ball.") Unfortunately by your logic:22 is NOT Mei Lee. Turning Red took place around 2002 and 2003 and 22 is born after 2018(Since Stephens Hawking is shown to be one of 22's mentor and died in 2018) Its possible that 22 will appear in Turning Red as Mei's Kid or something similar(Maybe shes retelling the events of the movie in order to helps them with their powers/Anxiety?)

I don’t think 22 is Mei. Soul is set in the present day (around 2020) and 22 jumped to earth around this time, meaning they were born in 2020. There hasn’t been a movie from pixar set in 2021-2100 yet, therefore I don’t think 22 has appeared in a pixar movie yet

Would you be opposed if Pixar was to explore this deeper, and show who 22 became if it’s not a character we’ve already met?

22 could be Lisa's future daughter (Lisa was mentioned in the film and she could've traveled to Asia when Joe wasn't ready for a relationship. She could've been in an abusive relationship with a man from Asia, had a kid with him, and left him; then moved back to New York after she had it.) Lisa and Joe could've ended up together sometime after the events of 'Soul'. Lol, I don't even know why I thought this, but I'm leaning more towards 22 being that girl from 'Turning Red'.

I think 22 was likely born as some random person in Southeast Asia. Also, she will likely never know anything of her adventures with Joe before she was born. In addition, she will probably never meet Joe again.

If you go to pixar popcorn...and go to the soul episode...there's a girl on a bus...that's probably 22

I think because she has been there for so long that she may have dreams about all the events that unfolded when she is alive and she would recognize joe from those visions but just won’t remember who is he as in his person. But when she meantions most of the events that happens he will recognize her as 22 But that’s just my theory

Or they see all of time and space and say and do things that will make sure the universe becomes the best it can be. Other movies have done a similar thing to this, but Soul is one of those movies that doesn't reveal that it is all an act

I wish they went with the alternate ending where he met 22 later on as one of his students.

I feel like Connie is 22, in a paradoxical way. Connie looks Asian, possibly having been born in Asia and adopted or immigrated. I love the Pixar theory, but for Soul's case it seems to be strongly hinting Connie, an in-movie character strongly influenced by Joe. "The Great Before" seems to be positioned in a space and time before the Universe was "born."

I think 22 will appear as an easter egg in the newest upcoming movie, turning red. it seems like it takes place somewhere in asia from the trailer. correct me if I’m wrong, I’m Vietnamese and know very little about other asian countries.

Is 22 Connie from the Pixar movie "Soul" ? As I have noticed that first, time is irrelevant in the great before that could prove that when 22 was born on earth, that they could have been born at any time. One thing that I had noticed is that 22 had talked about how the schooling system is crap and Connie replied that they have been saying that since the third grade. How did Connie know this when 22 was told this info at the youth seminar? Next, Joe says that 22 has a jazzy personality as Connie loves jazz herself. The relatively that the 2 both share seems too close to look past as they both agree on the same feelings and ideas they both had. They also both seem to show same attitudes and facial expressions with what scenes we had gotten to see of Connie. Also in the first idea of an ending for the movie, is the idea was that eventually Joe Gardener had 22 as a student but later recognized her in his class. Another theory that has been floating around is that 22 may have been born in Asia by seeing where her earth tracker showed she was going as said by another theory floating around, meaning she could have been possibly born Asian as Connie is definitely, but could have moved to America to New York to seek different paths in her, and her families lives. I know this theory of mine is pretty out there, but when you really start to think about it, it adds up pretty well into its own theory. But again, this is just a Pixar theory.

WAIT 22 might not have to just have to be a human or animal, we know that a lot of toys come from Asia, what if 22 becomes a toy maybe a character in toy story 😂😂

Watching this a year after the video came out and hearing possibility of 22 becoming Mei Lee is making me chuckle and confirms your theory since Mei Lee is from Toronto.
