Soul Ending Explained: What Are Joe & 22's Fates?

Фильм және анимация

After being graced with a new Pixar movie on Disney+ which I thought was absolutely stunning, beautiful, and thought provoking, today I want to discuss the meaningful ending of Soul! What happened to Joe Gardner and 22 after they returned to Earth from the Great Before? Where might they go and who might they become? Also, what was up with the Terry end credit scene? To begin the many discussions I'm sure we will have on Pixar's Soul, let's begin by trying to decipher the lessons that our main characters learned when they decided that any life they could lead would have meaning.

What did you think of Soul? And are there any topics you would like discussed about this movie coming up? I thought it was gorgeous, thoughtful, and brilliant, and I can't wait to talk about it more! Everything from The Great Before, the Jerrys, and what happened to Moonwind will be fascinating to look into more. Have a magical day fun people, and I hope you have a fantastic New Year!

Honestly, I subscribe to the idea that Joe and 22 will meet again, but for a passing moment, but that passing moment will be profound to both of them. It might go something like this: Joe is walking down the street to his job (possibly as a music teacher after he realized that playing onstage didn't give him what he wanted). As he turns a corner, he bumps into something and nearly falls. Catching himself and looking down, he sees two kids who were the ones he bumped into; a little boy and a slightly older girl. Catching the boy, the girl rounds on Joe and yells at him to be more careful, saying he almost caused her little brother to fall. Joe quickly apologizes, then asks whether the two should be in school. The girl scoffs, saying they were walking to school early. Joe realizes the school they are transferring to is the school he's teaching at, and offers to walk them to their first day while introducing himself as Mr. Joe Gardner. Rolling her eyes, the girl agrees. While walking there in a calm atmosphere, Joe breathes in the fresh air and says "Oh yeah, this feels like jazz". Walking between her brother and Joe, the girl chuckles and says "Oh yeah, you're jazzing." For a moment Joe's eyes are widened. Then he smiles gently and says "You know, the school cafeteria's got some pretty good pizza. You like pizza?" And the girl, eyes full of life - full of a _spark_ - turns to her teacher, nods and smiles.

Joe isn't going to pursue a career in music like before. He loves music, but after playing with Dorothea and her telling him that they will basically just do the same thing every night he realized it wasn't as fulfilling as he thought it would be. At the end of the movie he's clearly on his way to explore new aspects of life, including perhaps reconnecting with Lisa. As for 22, I feel like 22 will be born as not only a human male but one that will be in a wealthier family, since wealthy human males have the most freedom and opportunities in the world. Since 22 looked to be going to Asia, it really makes a lot of sense that in order to get the most out of life 22 would be born male into a privileged family. Or maybe 22 will end up having a crappy life on earth.

Another wonderful video Isaac! You definitely put into words everything that I've come to love about Soul. I just saw it the other day with a friend, and let me tell you, this movie had us in tears after we finished watching it. Never before have I seen a movie that tackled all these personal, yet such thought-provoking and very real topics in such a refined and beautiful manner. All my life, I've been plagued by insecurities, moments of despair, and just the thought that I was or never will be good enough in anything I try to do. That if I don't find something I'm perfect at, then I won't be able to live a fulfilling career and make my family proud. Seeing 22 and Joe struggle with their insecurities and self-worth hit me HARD because I saw myself in every scene. It was so grounded, personal, and believable, which is such a hard yet incredible thing for a movie to pull off, especially in a way that's understandable to kids. When everything culminated into that moment where Joe was playing the piano at his home and remembering all of the wonderful experiences of his life, that if he truly were to die today he would be happy and at peace because he finally realized that he lived a good, fulfilling life filled with all the littles joys of living, I balled my eyes out. "That last spot fills in when you're ready to come live," "Maybe sky watching could be my spark or walking! I'm really good at walking!" and "I don't know what I'm going to do, but I'm going to enjoy every minute of it" are just some of my absolute favorite lines from this movie. Just a movie that tells me its okay to love the little things in life because it's those little things that make life worth living and experiencing is something I didn't know I needed to hear until now. Soul will now forever have a special place in my heart and will always cherish the message and characters of this movie. Great job again Isaac!

my theory of 22 is that she became Russell from UP. She clearly falls in the asia area and he’s an asian american character. He could’ve moved at an early age with his mom to America since his dad isn’t mentioned in UP. Also, Russell and 22 share their want to fill that “empty void” aka Russell’s last badge and 22’s spark. Just a theory so we shall see what happens also both movies are the same director, pete doctor soo it’s possible

5:19-6:10 on these parts of the video, you almost made me cry, Isaac. I honestly love your videos and your content, and I appreciate the effort you put into all of your videos. I have never seen someone who seems to love and put effort on their work like you do, Isaac. Of course, I can’t say we ALL love your content nor I can guarantee you that we watch it all, but you can definitely know that I personally do enjoy and appreciate your effort you put into these. I just love your positive attitude you bring us all, and I can’t ignore all those little details you put in your videos, bc normally when youtubers start their channels, is all bad quality and very little experience, but you, you bring a great quality masterpiece, with a very nice camera, high quality in all aspects, daily videos, a great attitude, nice set, nice microphone, GREAT information, etc, they’re so many things to put into consideration, and you don’t miss anything. Congratulations Isaac, if you keep up, I know that all your dreams will come true, and please don’t under estimate yourself, and never let anyone under estimate you. Happy holidays

I sobbed hysterically because of this film, because of the realization of "unworthy of life" but I really was also excited to see POC characters, as the that 22 might be born in Asia, gets me very excited. I feel like 22 pertains to a lot of people that struggle with problems about living and that is amazing.

What's clear is Joe will contact Lisa and continue with music but be less obsessed with it and I think Joe will continue to be in the band and not be a teacher. The director said one of the endings they played around was 22 was Indian, and they do meet. Because it's a Disney movie I believe they do meet. I was hoping for a Monster's Inc like ending, when either 22, or Joe recognizes one of each other by a voice.

They are my #1 passion along with sports and fine arts. I have a movie blog but I want to find something else meaningful with my life. That’s how I can relate to Joe’s story!
