Who Came Up with Economic Sanctions, and Have they Ever Worked? | Flashback with Palki Sharma
Have you heard about sanctions? It’s the favourite tool of US presidents. Around one-third of the world is living under some sort of sanctions. But how did this idea originate? Why have sanctions failed historically?
Palki Sharma tells you on Flashback.

In my opinion, in the new world that we live, basic needs and supplies are being produced within in country, and the people can use a substitute goods to satisfy their needs. So, I think Sanction are ineffective against the developed countries.

You have answered this question in the video itself. The criticism I have on this video is that it presents the entire video from the sanctioner's perspective, perhaps your intended audience for this video is western public. But it would have been better if things were also presented from the sanctioned countries' point of view.

The interesting part of this video that was not truly answered was why did FDR removed their initial sanctions on the Soviets in 1941 to then become an ally to fight against Germany in WWII? WHO were the ones who made this decision was never answered. Who are the arbiters of sanctions? Politicians? Or some people who are far more powerful than the Politicians?
Palki you a star. That was beautiful, amazing news telling.
For the very 1st time I get to know the other side of "sanction".. Earlier I used to think that it impacts the economy on which the sanctions are imposed but there is also a scope of getting self reliant and promoting indigenous goods and services.. Got both the perspective.. A very detailed and informative video..

Yr statement is self defeating.
In mediaeval Assam, there was a tradition of social boycott. When an individual was found guilty, the family was boycotted, barred from using the community pond, and denied fire. Denial of ire and water compelled them to come to terms with society. This practise can still be seen in different avatars, though! Sometimes it happened that the number of boycotts got bigger and bigger, and the boycotted families united to form their own society called "khel." Several factors, such as injustice, friendship, familial bonding, and money or property strength, contributed to the strength and enlargement of the khel of the boycotted families to outnumber and defeat the cause of the boycott itself.
