She sure did. Unfortunately, after Whitney, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, and others passed away, the music industry has only steadily gotten worse. Unfortunately, now we've also lost Aretha Franklin. In nearly 4 decades (from 1980-2019), we've gone from great talents like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey, and Prince to absolutely dreadful "acts" like Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Ed Sheeran, One Direction (though they broke up), and the other pop turds that are out there now. Unfortunately, it looks like it's only going to get worse.

What a brilliant singer. She sounds like she intentionally went sharp at 2:15 to create dissonance with the key of the song for some musical effect. She smoothly slides back in tune within the next couple of seconds. Then she does it again at 3:06 for maybe a split second and slides back into key. Both times was placed just perfectly for this style of song. I don't care what anyone says....this woman understood music regardless of her personal trials in life. She will be forever studied in music history just like many others before her time.

Well. Utilizing a similar logic, it would appear that Whitney used her lack of concept a lot better than you've utilized what at first glance seems to be an extensive musical education, given that she is and will continue to be a household name, and YOU are relegated to a comment, under one of her videos, from when she was what? 20? Brava for trolling the dead girl. WTF.

  • @whitneyhoustonstan2472

Kel0390 well I mean I have watched her other live performances in the same song at her early 20's, and she does seem to get very sharp at those points. Although in one performance she decided to sing a high F (fifth octave) instead of an E even though she was singing the song in its original key. However I do think it's intentional, because she is pitch perfect 99.9% of her performances and it's very rare for her to fall off key. Though she is very young and maybe she possibly wasn't as "experienced" or her intonation wasn't as strong as it was later on in the early 90's, though I doubt that because she does an incredibly good job with singing on pitch, but it is a possibility that she has a greater tendency to get sharp in higher notes in the head voice.

That lilting speaking voice is every bit as melodious as her singing voice, and I could listen to either all day long. In her early days, like here, she was just perfect, like a rose in full bloom--sweet, dignified, gorgeous and sensual but refined, a joy to everyone. No pride, no pretense, no vulgarity, just a demure, beautiful girl who happened to have the best voice in pop music history. I hope she knew how much joy she brought to the people that heard (and still hear) her sing. What a class act!

This piece is truly timeless. Everything seems so effortless to Whitney. Her rich tone, her creativity, her muscial sensitivity and how she drove her emotions in every single lines of the song proved us that she was already a “DIVA” from the beginning of her career. No need to put on luxurious ensembles or have backup dancer, just her voice and a microphone and there she defines what “THE VOICE” is.

@@resentertainment1990 There will never be someone who will sound as Withney ❤️ Like Withney once said there won't be another Aretha, Barbara or herself!! Everyone needs to have there own thing. Everyone has there own special gift. Which is what makes everyone different from each other. Good thing cause otherwise it would be very boring. But one thing till today that still hasn't changed is that so far no one really special in the music industry has showed up like they did in the old days. If were really honest their really hasn't been someone coming up nowadays that has that special touch like Withney, Michael, Luther, Mariah, George, Prince, Queen, Lionel, Aretha, Diana etc. Back in the days it really felt like each time a new artist came up they were new!! And by that i mean that they all really had there own style and gift that they sang through. Not some copycat that sings the style of another artist. Nowadays new upcoming singers are alike when it comes to singing. They sing in a way that doesn't really make them different from each other. It all sounds the same which sometimes is really boring. Someone like Withney truly sang from the heart. She created her own style. Which made her different. And so many other artists back then like Luther, Prince etc all sang in their own way. Not the same. They all had ranges and styles that made them unic in their own way. Plus they had voices out of this world. And that's what's missing nowadays. Singers who create their own style. So that you really know who is who. Sometimes i think i heard a artist like a thousand times befores but then they turn out to be someone else.

How do you hold a note and smile at the same time. Then the runs were effortlessly executed

the best live version of saving all my love for you ever. it beats out grammy and david letterman version. this version she takes time and sings a lot slower than normal and did not skip out the high notes. also during her 1985 live performances of this song she raised the original key by half note.
