    Not Celine, Mariah Carey or Beyonce have all these attributes range, clarity, power and control. Mariah Carey has range and power but not clarity. That's the difference between Mariah and Whitney.

    Kevin Prima What Whitney had in her voice isn't anything that can be taught or obtained with any amount of practice or hardwork. It is a gift, a God given gift, infrequently gifted upon humans. She is a once in a millennia type of vocalist.

    She certainly had unlimited potential. But the poor girl suffered badly from the disease of addiction. I sure hope she is resting comfortably. I still get chills when I listen to “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”. I’d like to hear Regina Belle sing it...she can soar the same way Houston did and she has worked with Walden also.

    @@kevinjackson278 Mariah Carey didn't have no power LMAO It's the main reason she's the most easily outsung diva in the vocal trinity She got a little bit more range boosted by FLAGEOLETS but other vocal facets belong to Whitney as stated already

    First of all, Narada is a musical genius. His production credits speak for itself. Secondly, we need more stories like this.. of Nippy’s creative process. No one talks about her musical legacy anymore. (Robyn also goes into detail, in her memoir, about how this song came about)

    She broke down so many doors for black artists. I understand the public not understanding, but some black artists in the industry gave her a hard time. She had to do certain records and be packaged and marketed a certain way because they weren't really playing black artists in the _mainskream_ all like that. She did what she had to do in order for black artists to be accepted, worldwide. Some artists didn't mind being pigeonholed to one thing, but the majority of artists want they art to circulate throughout the world. But anyway, I like you, Narada Michael Walden. You gon be my new uncle. I like when she told you not to change the key. Singing the way she did was a cinch to her. She was naturally able to pitch her voice in them high keys. You don't hear that type of singing anymore w/ perfect pitch, clarity and enunciation. Now see, I had the biggest smile on my face until y'all mentioned Sam Smith. I don't care for him. His face and voice just annoys the hell outta me. He had no business tryna sing Auntie's song. No soul, flavor or passion. When I first saw that, my spirit saddened. I felt hella gloomy inside. While, I'm here, I'm also getting tired. I'm tired of him being played on all formats while Eric Benét has to sing abroad over in Korea. I'm tired. The singing/talent doesn't match or eclipse the mass exposure. If anybody in power reads my posts, please change this narrative. Eric Benét obviously looks, sounds and sings better than Sam Smith. Why doesn't the overall talent match or eclipse the mass exposure? If it's an *"age"* thing then what's the big deal? Sam Smith and Eric Benét are indeed the same age (51). Ok, I've tackled talent and age and the only obvious thing left is "color." Ah-ha! Is it a color thing or do I just need to shut up and go listen to Jodeci again? I'm just gettin' tired. Lastly, what was it really and truly like working w/ somebody who came out 5 years later? I'd love to know the tea on that.

    Why would you say that Sam Smith and Eric Benet are the same age? Anyway, since you want to make it about color... why don't you ask black people why they aren't buying Eric Benet's records? Maybe it's because he doesn't beat his woman, or because he doesn't leak dick pics on social media. This is 2018. Artists aren't at the mercy of the Clive Davises, anymore. I guess that more Koreans are are fans of Eric Benet than Black Americans are. and BTW - throughout most of Whitney's career, it wasn't just other Black singers who were shading Whitney. Most of the Black audience was giving her a hard time, saying that her SINGING didn't have enough soul. For some reason. they didn't really embrace her, as much, until she was smoking crack and acting a fool with Bobby.

  • @LaCheleWallace

    @LaCheleWallace

    6 жыл бұрын

    Because I said so. They are indeed the same age. Oh, I've asked black people time and time again why they fickle asses ain't bought nann Eric Benét record. You definitely need controversy to sell music and that's just not his personality. Whitney's singing didn't have enough soul? Perhaps I was too young for that part, but DAMN! I agree, black people didn't really rock w/ her all like that until... 'what you said.'

    bako jeremiah bako jeremiah maybe look at it like this. Kanye is reminding us of what WE do to the most talented people. They give us greatness And in return we expect them to be perfect, and when they're not we endlessly judge them. then bam here comes the cracked out bathrooms Whitney and TMZ rants Kanye or shaved heads beating cars with umbrellas Britney Spears or smoking crak live online Amy Winehouse. We aren't the source of their problems but our lack of human empathy definitely adds to it. instead of love, we respond with MORE JUDGEMENT. But i think the point is proven by how many people are calling Kanye out for putting THE TRUTH in our face. Did anyone stop to think "hum i wonder why he did this" nope we hop on the 'i can't believe this' train because the headline TOLD YOU he was disrespecting her. Kanye too deep for ppl. Dude trying to make people think but instead we take the headlines and run. JUST LIKE WE DID WHEN THE CRACKED OUT PIC FIRST SURFACED. we took it and ran. And Then started the Whitney crack head jokes that never went away. But y'all mad cuz he reminding y'all how disloyal fickle and unloving we are to talented people who happens to have issues. Lol. OH NOW Y'ALL WANT RESPECT FOR WHITNEY. Oh ok.

Kanye didn't put her there, neither did she, peoples fascination for other peoples lives put her there. NOW HOW SICK IS THAT lol Fake nasty trashy or not people's obsession and compulsion for other peoples lives is at fault. he put her on the throne next to him and mofos will never understand why he shoving her right back in their face lol. again he wouldn't even be in circles with her if the Public didn't put her there. Kanye holding a mirror bro. He's showing us US and we hate it cuz its too much. That's all he's really been doing: the pres Bush shit, the taylor swift stuff, the Donald trump stuff. Why be mad at him because he friends with Trump, which is a mofo that believe in being unapologetically himself PERIOD. he gonna drop his nuts all day everyday everywhere no right or wrong not limited to what should be done or what must be done according to anyone but himself and MAYBE if people thought like trump aka live in a world where u do what u want MAYBE kanye wouldnt call ppl slaves. Lol. how much truth gotta get put in ppl face but the truth is usually indigestable so i get why it rub folk wrong. Im not even a fan of KK but i see that we live in a weird world that catapulte ppl like her BUT MOFOS MAD AT Yae like he made KK the fucking media drug that people take like crack lol MAYBE if ppl 1 stop paying it attention which includes the energy it take to not like her and 2 do something with their freedom that is so phenomenal so spectacular that we wouldn't even be discussing KK. Priceless interview. Never heard of this guy till today. But he hit the nail on the head on some many aspects of WH. The first thing you (I) noticed when I first heard her sing and saw what she looked like. That much power and volume, range...from a very slim woman. Almost skinny. Usually you get that kind of voice from larger women. Heavy. Yet she was able to project effortlessly. She never sounded like she was struggling to hit the notes she did and hold them. So sad we lost her...however it really happened. The way she was found. Naked on the floor of her Beverly Hills Hotel bathroom. Don't recall any one saying she had a stroke or if it was a OD. Those "questionable" deaths of major stars. Just as odd as Bruce Lee's death. Bruce Lee was cocky. Had to have told the wrong people off a few times. Was WH that way? Shrug. As for no one sounding like WH...there's a Dutch singer that comes awfully close..Glennis Grace. If you closed your eyes you could swear WH was there. Came back to life.

    first of all, I adore Narada...maybe the most 'spiritual" producer in the business...his approach to cutting records with some of the greatest divas and egos, is not something that can be taught...because he has to know the technical side of engineering a session, but he also has to adjust and handle these egos that are coming thru the door before the artist does. doing that. And he has a gift for doing that, much like Quincy Jones. Uh, Whitney?...is the greatest POP vocalist Ive ever heard, male or female. And Im nowhere near her biggest fan. Yea, she could sing, gospel, could probably sing the blues or light opera..and if given a shot, she would've OWNED Broadway, where she could have shown off her chops on one of those great musicals. But when it came to interpreting a pop song, there was NO ONE better. She was better than Streisand, Dion, Carey, Franklin, LaBelle, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner and even her cousin Dionne, at conveying all the little nuances an artist needs, to win over the record buyer who favors pop, over anything else. And those are some great pop artists, I mention...but she was the best of all of them, hands down. There is a live concert recording, on KZread, of her singing in San Francisco (dont know where in SF)..this was before she REALLY blew up (1984, I think)..and so she didnt have a lot of her own material to work with. So, she was singing other songs from other singers, as well as a few songs of her own. Well, she did a version of Jennifer Holliday's "Im Changing" from "Dreamgirls", that completely took my breath away. My mouth dropped at the power (as Narada calls it) coming out of her face and all the breath control, she showed....it is really something to behold. And so effortless...it was like listening to someone who simply has to open her mouth..and her vocal chords, does the rest. You wont get another one, like her.

    I hate when people say that there will never be another! Such a dumb statement, in my humble opinion. People are people and human! To say “never” is unfair and unreal. Of course , there will be another. It’s just that it may not be in a person’s lifetime, but in another person’s lifetime. I’m glad that I lived to see Whitney, Prince, Michael Jackson and Aretha. Even though these were great artists, there will be others just like them in the future. Things just cycle around. I’m glad that I saw each of these originals. However, there will be future artists, on this level, for another generation. Count on it! Peace.

    I believe it's logical to state given the incredible number of people on this planet now and in the future that others will hit the genetic lottery in regard to vocal ability. However, her specific sound and tone is indeed unique and will likely never be matched. It's part of the reason why her so short prime and ultimate decline and death is so sad and tragic. She was a remarkable talent.

    @@skcchiefs8928 - I don’t agree with you at all. Still, you are entitled to your thoughts and beliefs. I still believe that, of course, there will be another Whitney one day. I probably won’t live to see it! Anyone can have certain talents. Some have this, others have that. I am so glad that I did live to see Whitney Houston. She was a huge talent. However, there will be others! It’s just a matter of time! Thanks for commenting. Have a nice day! Peace.

    @Jay Winn - Thanks for agreeing with me! I try to live in reality! Never is a very, very long time! Prince is my all time favorite artist. I am so glad and grateful to have lived to see him! So very grateful! However, another young man or lady will come along one day, that can play over 30 musical instruments. Another musical genius, on Prince’s level. I just feel in my gut that I won’t live to see whomever that may be! Still, it could be in my niece’s lifetime. She’s 8 years old.I don’t know! However, I’m glad that I say the original named Prince. Many others will come one day. Still, I am glad that I lived to see some great one’s. Peace.
