It shook me that people still debating on who’s that greatest mainstream vocalist of all time when Whitney’s performances are free and available. Her voice is SO connected in EVERY register that’s insane!

I TOTALLY agree! Whitney had soooooo many weapons in her vocal arsenal. Headvoice, vocal dynamics and agility, clarity, vibrato, range, diction, emotive ability, power and resonance. BUT even if she didn't possess all of these, her platinum TONE was ENOUGH. Powerful, free, rich and beautiful. Combine all these and you get the best female singer to grace a microphone. In my humble opinion.

C’mon man you know back then that people had to have tape recorders in their pockets/purses to record back then. There were no cell phones back then. So we had to smuggle recording devices into concerts to have these memories preserved forever.

I’m always stunned. She doesn’t get the credit for her vocal arrangements like she deserves. Her vocal arrangements were a part of her genius. She did it throughout her career as her voice changed and she killed it.

@@arlington4508 all the other singers they compare to her pale.. They talk about musicality, I laugh. She had the most musician ion the spot1 no one close..It is like a cheetah vs a cat...when compared to the others. I watched an interview about one of her band members and he said, the first time he played behind her was when she did a showcase in 1983 and he could not believe how flexible she was already at that age... the band had to be in sync and she gave them her cues. They practiced the structure of the song in rehearsals but live in front of an audience you will be mediocre as a band member if you do not know she is going to do crazy improvisations on the spot which were often superior.

Right Pedro. Other fan bases always claim that other than her power and head voice Whitney wasn’t that great but they obviously don’t have a clue about Whitney’s agility. Earlier in her career Whitney’s melisma was so quick and lightening fast that it snuck up on you like a freaking ninja. The woman could do anything she wanted with her voice EFFORTLESSLY.
