This performance is beyond belief, the cinemaphotography, the ART, and this time we get to savor over 4 minutes of total bliss, no one is capable of doing this song justice like Angelina Jordan. David Foster and Linda Thompson, who co-wrote this ballad for Whitney Houston would be blown away by this performance.

Great observations about this performance. It’s hard to believe, but you’ve only heard a tiny fraction of how good she is. Actually, this song is sort of out of her normal comfort zone, but I think she challenges herself this way. Much of her jazz and blues influence results in more intimate and nuanced vocals rather then the sustained power and belts she gave us here. Okay-here’s your best recommendation today: watch Angelina’s cover of Suspicious Minds. It’s filmed in the same antique store as today’s. But you’ll see Angelina in a genre she handles like no one else-completely opposite of what you just saw. Her strength is not just her vocals, but her ability to re-interpret songs so beautifully and completely that the iconic original is immediately your second favorite. Suspicious Minds is extraordinary musically, vocally, and artistically. It’s Angelina in a genre that she just kills, and she’s hitting on all cylinders.

Good quality commentary. Everything about this performance is top notch. Her body language and movement really emphasize the lyrics and melody flow. There is something about her arm movement going into the first chorus that is very engaging, spontaneous and appropriate. Also strange that we now see her as "older", a function of seeing her stellar performances from the age of ten or so. The next few years will be special as she enters real diva territory.

During her recent concerts in Norway, Angelina dedicated this song to her grandmother Mery who has been battling health issues. Ryan, Angelina may be only sixteen years old, but she is a bona fide, elite master level vocalist. She might mimic parts of another artist’s technique, but she never approaches covering a song with the intent to sound just like the original artist. More often than not, Angelina’s covers are better sounding than the original artist’s performance. Angelina is also an extraordinary story teller. Angelina’s gift for story telling has caused me to listen to the lyrics of songs I’ve heard many times, for the first time.

She changed the key to this song, but does it really matter as long as she has the ability to give each word, or phrase, meaning like no one else in this universe can. How can she evoke such emotion in each and every performance? Why do I get chills, or cry tears, or lose my breath when Angelina sing a song that I have experienced many times in the past without this happening? If this feeling only happened to me that would be ok, but it happens to billions of people. We play these videos of AJ over, and over again to get our high. I'm really amazed that you would say she is "mimicking Whitney Houston". She is not only not mimicking, she is completely different. The only similarities are the notes and words of the song itself, which also do not even try to be a copy of what WH did.

I agree, I listened to the Whitney version recently and have listened to Angelina's countless times, they are actually quite different. Except for most of the lyrics. The part where she sings don't you DARE walk away twice whereas Whitney did not, at least the version I heard

There are similarities (of course), but there are plenty of differences that are all Angelina - her personal creative flavour. She definetly was not trying to do exactly the same Whitney did, and I don't think that is what Ryan intended to communicate. Be easy on the guy 😉 Angelina sets the standard for singers. Her voice is getting mature but she only turned 17 on the 10th January, so she is still a teenager, with a magnificent voice. She is also such a beautiful soul. I had the pleasure of attending two of her Kurbadhagen concerts. Actually I flew from New Jersey to Oslo twice It was so emotional, even Angeline cried at one point. Breathtaking. Did you not know that she had three or four concerts in Norway this summer? There are a lot of videos of the songs she sang on UT right now. She wore this dress at the first concert while singing this song. Also, this is the same venue, an antique shop in LA, that they used for two of her previous releases. They know the owners, plus I think they must like the acoustics for recording. She’s very relaxed and relatable when onstage-right at home.

i am not sure there is a female match to her musical talent in human history to be honest. Yes, whitney houston was awesome but could she have sung all the genres and styles AJ can excel at? The same goes for every other major female star. Then you have her composition and arrangement skills which remind me of Mozart who could improve a song after a single listen. She is unique.

Great reaction -- love your comments on her pronunciation. Very insightful. Subbed on this basis. I would strongly agree with other comments that she is not mimicking Whitney. For one thing, this performance is in the key of E (as opposed to G) b/c AJ is essentially an alto. The vocal fry is totally different. We can go into it, but to me this is a very different version than Whitney's.

Just had her concert in Norway and she would go in Japan next, but don’t know the date and she’ll be going to London to open up a Quincy Jones at his birthday. She didn’t say whatever countries don’t know the dates don’t know when they’re gonna be, but that she gonna be around the world.

You were doing great on your review, but like so many others, you just can't refrain from referring to the original artist... It still hasn't really hit you yet...because she's covering a song, doesn't require you compare her rendition by pointing out the things the original artist did, and "good girl" you did it too... Angelina is not a "cookie cutter singer", she's her own person, an ARTIST doing it her own way.. she demonstrates a mastery of how and when to use ALL of those techniques, the pallet she uses to add colors to her performance make it clear ... You don't have to belt your way through a song to be extraordinary, what she produces with her natural talent, making it her fresh, captivating and exquisite is in itself extraordinary.. and Angelina is so beyond that . You may not believe this but the reason that whoever said that said it is because you were only familiar with this song having come from Whitney Houston first and so it's natural to make a comparison. The notes, the pitches, the duration of the notes and everything have already been established and so there is a tendency in the human mind to naturally compare something new against something that they are already familiar with. That is what someone does when they compare Angelina to Whitney Houston or, God forbid, Amy Winehouse.

Whitney fans only wish she had been this talented. Whitney was great there is no arguing that but Angelina is already hands down light years ahead of just about every singer at the same age. She can already go toe to toe (voice to voice ... performance to performance) with any "all time great" that anyone cares to name. Sure some of them will have a performance here or there to stand beside her, but if people are truly honest I doubt other performances would out "score" Angelina's.

Anything respectful you may care to make on the featured artist ANGELINA before making your pitch for another artist. Lol.

For me her big talent is not exactly on voice, but in the ritmus, the entonations, the colors! That is why i dont like her covering this song, she is doing like most of all, and there is others better than her covering that, but she can be Perfect in other styles doing her own!

Wow, your ear for nuances is lacking. Angelina as opposed to Whitney uses much more vibrato, breathiness, and many more melismas, both ascending and descending. She also sings it at a slower tempo, with more rests between verses. Angelina has totally made this her own. Sorry, but you need to go back and listen to Whitney, and not the movie version which was heavily modified electronically in the studio, rather her live performances.

Whitney had nowhere near Angelinas diversity or talent.
