Never heard of "mezzo-alto". Classifications for female voices from highest to lowest: Soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, and contralto. But that's my first time seeing "mezzo-alto". And I couldn't find it in any classifications I looked up. Not saying there isn't such a thing, just that I've never seen it used to classifiy the female voice.

@@wajj1842 Same here; never heard of a "mezzo-alto" female voice type, but I'm an instrumentalist not a vocalist so I'm certainly no expert. While I've never seen Angelina's voice type or exact vocal range discussed in any real detail by expert coaches here on KZread or even in any articles online, I definitely agree with Ellen Elizabeth Mae (whose post was pinned by this great reactor) that Angelina is not a spinto soprano like Whitney was. Angelina, being Angelina, made the smart musical choice and really shined singing this iconic song. Terrific reaction, btw!

@@Owen_S. Basically, I would say that Angelina is an alto. The whole thing about the key she sings this song in is really not relevant for me. She should sing it in the key that allows her to give her best performance. And I think that's what she did. And I think her performance is Fantastic!! I give it a 10.

At her last concert on July 10th 2022, when Angelina told why she sings this song and dedicated it to her grandmother Mery Zamani ( her grandmother could not accompany Angelina on the trip to Norway ), I understand this song completely differently. Whenever I hear the line "Don't you dare walk away from me", I hear and see Angelina before my eyes, no matter who sings it. 💯 *AJ* 💯

She's become a complete knockout too. I know she's young but wow. She looks like a real Barbie doll.

Anyone who is not in the music business learns a lot from you, we realize that a lot is involved in a musical performance, the chosen Key, breathing, etc.. Yes you got that right. How much better can anyone get? Angelina has this way of making a song her own story. At the last concert in Norway she dedicated the performance of this song to her grandma, who could not be there this time because of health issues. I feel that Angelina is heading towards some, as yet, undiscovered places.

She did this in Angela's key when she was 12 and hit everything. She just knows it's better in the the lower key.

Yeah they extra dare was a choice. Either this was recorded before she left for Norway, or was done and put out in a matter of a couple days when she came back. So I'd assume it was done before the live one in Norway.

I'm not sure that Whitney sang it in that higher key all the time either. I watched 4 live versions on YT and they all sounded quite different than the multi-take studio version. The studio/film version is the one lodged in our brains because we heard it so many times on the radio back in the day.

@@ThatSingerReactions Exactly. I just think that the one everyone has in their minds and compares to is the studio version. Which Whitney didn't do very often. Too hard on the voice when on tour every night probably. Then adding the stylistic changes to keep it interesting for herself, some (of the ones I've seen) were good choices, some were less so. Hey, she was a performer, not a robot. The same with AJ. As I said on an early video, her version of this from 3yrs ago was a cover, this was her own version. Another channel does waveform analysis of singers to see who's using autotune, who needs to, who doesn't, who does it badly, etc. They did a breakdown of Whitney singing this live in '93. She was spot on, amazing control, very gifted. One of the comments was from the sound engineer, Peter Yianilos, that worked with Whitney multiple times, he was very complimentary of her skill.

She changed the key to this song, but does it really matter as long as she has the ability to give each word, or phrase, meaning like no one else in this universe can. How can she evoke such emotion in each and every performance? Why do I get chills, or cry tears, or lose my breath when Angelina sing a song that I have experienced many times in the past without this happening? If this feeling only happened to me that would be ok, but it happens to billions of people. We play these videos of AJ over, and over again to get our high.

Most singers can put vocal fry at the onset of words and phrases, Angelina can put it at the end, even the middle of words.

This studio version is 3 semi notes lower than Whitney’s studio version. I think it is a perfect match for her voice: it sounds so good! During her latest concert she dedicated this song to her absent and recovering grandmother. It gives the song a very personal and emotional context. She switches between gentle and soft vs power and conviction with occasional delightful hum to deliver this message and make us feel it. Yes she is growing so fast in her art. At any age she was amazing and keeps getting more amazing all the time . With her just being 16 her voice will not fully mature for another decade which will take her to new unimaginable levels of amazingness.

Nick, when I watch other singers and voice coaches react to Angelina’s singing there is a collective stunned shock and awe look on the vast majority of their faces. I’ll even go so far as to say I have detected some envious looks too. I have never witnessed another young vocalist who’s maturity level is years and even decades beyond her peers.

Great reaction! She is definitely getting better as time goes by. Her voice has become much fuller and richer and she's showing a lot more of her range than ever. It will be amazing what she'll sound like in her twenties. On a side note, there was a recent post on TikTok of Angelina meeting legendary drummer Johnathan Moffett. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, which include Madonna, Janet Jackson, Elton John, George Michael, Quincy Jones, Prince, The Jacksons, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson (who the drummer worked with for over 30 years). After meeting and speaking with her, and listening to some of her music, he said, "Just like the likes of Michael, Whitney, Celine, Stevie, Beyonce,....Angelina is the next biggest and greatest singer to come to you."

Umm which Whitney performance you watch? I'll guide you to the one on her key lol as somebody mentioned on the comments there's no big deal artist have different voices. Whitney they considered a mezzo soprano and often a spin to soprano so that's OK. But yes there's times Whitney will lower the key but she's also sung it in HER key as well

I was a Whitney fan from the beginning of her career to her tragic end. Whitney was great, but Angelina at 16 is far better than Whitney ever was at making you feel each word, and phrase. AJ changes every cover to make if hers and far, far better than the original. AJ is the great STORYTELLING ARTEST I have ever experienced in my 75 years.

hate to burst your whitney adoration but she was for sure overated as an artist. she was a great singer but as an actual artist much less so.

PVC TV studio program in America that she doesn’t live on Norway’s got no Norway live performance in her concert. She does this song 3×40,000 people that listen to her in Norway on the border English not a first language she’s Norwegian
