🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

@daemontargaryen6757the Bantu people are an African people no matter where they could have settled during the migrations in West Africa, in the center, in the east, in the north, in the south, the Bantus are at home, they are on their continent, they are not going to settle in europe or in asia of which it is useless to want to legitimize the presence of these white European settlers in Africa by saying that the Bantus are not from South Africa, they are at home and not these Boers. we Africans know they come from Europe, a white African has never existed in Africa and the words south africa did not exist before, Africa was a large continent without borders and without micro-states like today with ridiculous names.

As a proud South African of Boer descent I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. I am very familiar with the Afrikaner foods (braai, potjie, biltong, etc.) as well as the West Coast Cape Coloured delicasies (like crayfish and snoek). But man... I must say that I want to kick myself for not traveling enough up north after the African cuisine! I used to travel a lot for work but due to it being business trips I never had time to go and experience the other foods SA has to offer. After watching this series I just want to get into my car and drive up north to experience this lovely foods for myself! So I know what I'll be doing during my next holiday!! SA is truly probably one of the most amazing countries in the world! We just need to get a grip on unemployment, crime and electricity.
I'm South African and in my 20s and I only discovered through watching this that I don't really know much on Afrikaner cuisine only knew stuff like braai, potjiekos, biltong (not in depth) and koeksisters. Never attempted to learn. Thank you for enlightening me and I'm loving all the videos you've made on South Africa. Your approach and will to learn and how much love and repsect you've shown. Big ups to you Sonny. God bless!!

You had outstanding hosts. They truly drowned you with the best the Afrikaner culture has to offer. That is a fully immersive cultural experience you had there
Always surprised me how South African farms look so similar to Argentinean haciendas. If you showed me a picture of their house, without the Kudu skulls, and told me it's from Argentina I'd believe you. This video made me super nostalgic.

@@zaheercoovadia5304 There are tons of biomes in Argentina too, you have rain forest in the NE, desert in the NW, grasslands in the center, glaciers down south. It's a big country. I meant more the architecture of the house and such. It just looks similar and it's not the first time I notice it. Don't ask me why.

Interesting fact Sonny, the Afrikaans language has the nickname Kitchen Dutch, because it originates back to the slaves that used to work in the Kitchens of the early settlers who were a mix of Dutch, German, and one or two other European countries. This Afrikaans was born as a mix of all of these languages 👌🌻

Actually Kitchen Dutch had aspects of Maleyu, KhoeKhoen languages, etc as well. What we know as Afrikaans now is what was standardised later. Many words from Maleyu and the Khoekhoen people were removed to favour a more Dutch origin. After all, most of the slaves were maleyu, khoi, etc.
Great to c ur channel in town

This is my country. Proudly South African!
Every Afrikaner considers themselves South African, first and foremost. It's our primary identity and we're proud of it. Afrikaner culture is just the background to our South African-ness. Thanks for showcasing our country. Your pronunciation was on point! Very impressed.

Do they consider themselves African? I've always wondered
@rainyrealestate
Жыл бұрын
@@hlengiwemasondo2858 I personally do. But globally often people think of labels like 'African' or 'Asian' as racial indicators instead of geographical indicators. So it seems strange to some to call Russians 'Asians', for example. My family has been in South Africa since the 1600s. I would never think of myself as 'European.' So I consider myself African, but if a black person objects to that, I would totally understand. The South African identity is complex.

I have eaten proper Afrikaner food as I lived in Pretoria for 2 years. I’m surprised because these guys used a lot of seasoning. The food I’ve tasted was, from old tannies admittedly, but very simple seasoning, like salt and pepper, with the focus on the ingredient itself, but surprisingly very tasty like it come straight from the garden. My fav is home-made condensed milk rusks and those pumpkin fritters made with cinnamon and brown sugar !
