Libreoffice has its own thing. It is perfect for small users, apart from being free it is very functional. It's great!

@@ITsEasyTraining1st it's not about free price only , libre office is built with a community it is opensource and anyone can contribute to it , it has no spyware like excel and do not collect user data , if you value your privacy , it is the best choice (i use it whenever it is possible and use excel for companies that need to use it)

I have compared Libre Calc and Excel 2021 calculation speed with the 16k data rows to be calculate. Libre Calc much faster that can complete the calculation only 1s and Excel 5s

Basically, all 3 can do basic spreadsheets. But the more advanced you get, the more Excel shines. Think of it this way... if you put a Honda, a Chevy, and a Lamborghini on a racetrack, they won't perform much differently if you're just cruising along at 30mph. The Lambo's extra horsepower and handling doesn't matter at that speed. The faster you go, the more differences you will notice. At 100+, the Lambo totally dominates. An advanced Excel user can do things that the other two can't. It really depends on the level you will be using it, ya know? I'm a statistician, so Excel is a "must" for me. Someone else just doing basic spreadsheets would likely be just as happy with Libre or Google (and might as well save their money). Just my $0.02.

Unless you work with a big company handling big data and have company tools tailor made for ms office, all other average users can use any of those, just matter of prwference

Economics student here. Do you guys think that if I study financial modeling and valuation in LibreOffice Calc, since it's free, would it be transferable to Excel when working in a professional environment? Or would I have to learn all commands and shortcuts from scratch?

It is similar but not as good as Excel. Off-line is free as well Excel Word PowerPoint etc

Sorry to be that guy, but if you want to demonstrate how good Excel is, then this wasn't the way to do it. It seems like all 3 did a very good job. The fact merge and centre is default on word, but merge and keep formatting is default on Google Sheets is just a design choice. In Excel I'd have to do extra to keep the text on the left if that is what I actually wanted... What I would like to see is a sheet set up that is huge and show the power Excel has when doing a lot of calcs and so on. I'd love to know how much slower Libre and Google were (if they are)

@@ITsEasyTraining1st Not for commercial use, it has a limited set of functions online free. Hence why I could never steer someone to the free Excel unless it is their intention to pay once they start hitting more advanced functions. But if they just want basic functions, why would they restrict themselves to an online service only when there are several they could download and use for free.

Libre Office better than Microsoft office, because it can edit Microsoft office file format also.
