If you add to the fact that there are 2 valves on each side of each cylinder halves and they manage to open and close within the time a particular piston is away from them AND the rail manages to shoot a few drops of fuel within the same tme as well then it is fascinating. It gets even better when you imagine how a little bit of fuel can move such a weight forward in a short time.

@@Damien911 EV switch isn't happening anytime soon. We will probably be dead before that happens because they refuse to accept what a reality with the majority of drivers with EVs looks like. Countries are decommissioning nuclear, gas, coal, and hydro power plants because they are bad for the environment. Yet in CA for example, making that switch work would require covering the entire state in solar panels and windmills. It's just not going to happen and it's devastating for the environment. Now if they were talking about commissioning 10 nuclear power plants and having 25% of the grid be gas power to make up for the weakness of nuclear and renewable sources. Then they are talking about a realistic approach to getting everyone into EVs and I would worry about losing combustion engines.

Saying "it growls or groans" is a way of expressing how it sound with similar sound, it does not actually growl or groan though because it is a machine so you cannot correct it to one or the other as they are both technically wrong. In reality people like you who try to correct everything and everyone despite not knowing a thing about what they are correcting fail to get jobs, plus learn to use commas and other grammar to help your sentence flow smoother. Cross plane definitely sounds better IMO - the sound profile is beast-like (cross plane) versus insect-like (flat plane). I think without automotive bias the vast majority of humans would naturally gravitate to beastial baritone of the cross-plane V8. Also, the cross-plane V8 is simply superior to the flat-plane V8 for reliably holding really big power due to the lack of 2nd order vibrations. The best engine configurations (IMO) are the Inline 6, the 90 degree cross-plane V8 and the 60 degree V12. If any engine doesn’t come in one of the 3 configurations then they *should*.

I know very well how the internal combustion engine works BUT still to this day it blows my mind how the combustion cycle can even still work at high revolutions! You would think eventually the air/fuel mixture and exhaust would just start getting all mixed up with turbulence where nothing worked right or the air couldn't move fast enough, and that the lubrication even works at that rate is amazing, you would think that the top end would just seize up from heat and friction. The modern IC engine really is a mind blowing marvel of modern engineering.
