I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzread.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

I don't need another rod or reel! I have plenty but my favourite is the Spider Wire 25 lb. test line. I have used this for 20 something years. I have never had a problem with the wire itself and it has been the best hands down! No backlash or hangups like you get with monofilament wire. My least favourite is just that - monofilament because it stretches and it snags easily because of that very property. Thank you for sharing this with us. Most people don't understand the difference between the three but I do because I've used them all. I have been fishing for over 40 years and I just went fishing yesterday (6/13/2021) and I just can't seem to catch ANYTHING but babies from the shore. This is why it's best to use a boat! Thank you again and have a great year.

My favorite line by far is the Berkley Tri-lene Big game mono. It is marketed as more of a saltwater line, but the abrasion resistance and low memory makes it amazing for all around freshwater fishing. also for a price of around $15 for 1500 yards you can't beat it.

Hey! I sure enjoy your videos. I am a 74 year old bass fisherman living in New Mexico. Born in Oregon and living there most of my life, I did most of my fishing with my dad on the ocean, fishing for silver and chinook salmon. Also because of my age I used mono line exclusively. I started throwing fluro a bit a couple of years ago and really liked it. I use spinning reels only. I tried braided line, but just didn't like it and there is not much heavy cover in our lakes. in New Mexico. Again, I really enjoy your posts, and my vote goes for fluorocarbon line. I also make my own soft plastic baits.

Watching you, your were in my head as far as when and why I choose all three types of lines and how I set them up for the specific styles of fishing I am doing. I have been a subscriber for a while and watching this video reminded me why. We need to wet a hook together. Appreciate the effort, even when sick, to help others with our great spor!

@@derrick9653 One thing that I can guaranty is the fact that thinner lines get you more strikes. I have often fished with others and I catch more fish with 4 lb test line than those using 6 lb test line. It's the same when using larger lines. I am basing this on the fish species I fish the most often.....brook trout and walleye. Where I live, the brook trout are often over 15 inches in length. Surprisingly, using light lines and light tackle reduces hang ups on the bottom. The light tackle leaves the bottom in a more vertical motion. Most of my brook trout fishing is with only a size 8 Gamakatsu octopus hook and the front third of a nightcrawler....nothing else. The very light line allows for long casts. There are no bass up here where I live. The lakes have very little weed growth. For pike, I use braid and a titanium leader.

Mono #1 Braid #2 I dont use floro because it doesn't last long and is expensive to replace. Once its over stretched it gets brittle and breaks on big fish. Mono will return after stretching to a point. Also its knot strength isnt as good as mono and braid. It might get you a few more bites but im not risking a lifetime fish breaking off

I use mono, im usually on a hard budget (broke) that i have used the same line for 2 years. My robs and reels are older that you lojo. I rebuild and maintain them. So yeah my gear is old. I use mainly braid. You can't beat the feeling and the direct contact with the lure. You feel every little tap. Though, when i fish hardbaits (jerkbaits, crankbaits, bladebaits) for perch I use monofilament because of the stretch. I will try fluoro for that purpose this year. For icefishing I also use mono, braid takes up water and therefor freezes which makes the braid break easily in cold temperatures.

@@Mass_bigbaits its basically neutral, as in it doesnt float or sink, so can be used for topwater and for baits like jerkbaits and wont mess up either one. kind of right in the middle between flouro and mono.

I’m in SoCal. I’ve used mono for years but have recently switched to braided. And I use it all year long. Power Pro 20lbs for lake with my Shakespeare Cirrus 6’6 spinning reel and Power Pro 50lbs for pier/surf/ocean fishing with any 7’0 Spinning Reel. I love it.

  • @TheFishingMommy

For NY bass fishing, I’m pretty much a straight braid girl! I use Power Pro 30 lb for pretty much everything, with an occasional Berkeley Vanish 15 or 20 fluoro leader. I find that our cover here is light enough that I can use 30 braid in the heaviest cover we get and never get broken off. I just don’t use mono very much for bass because I don’t do much topwater at home. When I do use mono (on saltwater trips, usually) I throw a really heavy mono onto a 5000 or bigger spinning reel.

I usually use 30lb braid and then a leader of either Flouro or Mono depending on the technique. I think the reason you are having better luck with mono on the lipless crankbait is due to the MH fast rod you are using. If you drop down to a Medium Moderate rod then the rod is the shock absorber instead of the line.
