    I recently switched one of my kid’s reels from 12lb mono to 15lb flouro, and we immediately realized the flouro felt like it had significantly more stretch to it. Glad to know I wasn’t crazy :)

    I started out with whatever preceded mono. We thought mono was the cat’s meow when it first came out, then I went to college and didn’t fish for over 40 years. When I started fishing last year as a hobby looking forward to retirement, I found that so much had changed, soft plastics, fluorocarbon, a new kind of super braid.....and rods that are fantastic!! Well, I am learning a lot but I am still fishing with mono and have not, as of yet, seen enough to change my mind. 🙂 Good video though, and I have learned a lot from you young man!

    What a great reveal! Thought: The fact is, most people buy and use line by "pound-test" versus "diameter." So, with your focus being on pound-test, it's more practical and useful. It's also possible that there is different graph-curve for each material, showing greater stretch for Fluoro toward its maximum test, whereas mono's stretch happens more-so, initially, let's say. For that, one would need a scale to record max test and the amount of stretch that took it there. Logic my suggest, sensitivity comes from it's density, as with Tungsten versus lead. Fishermen, detecting a strike or sensing bottom bait movement would profit from using a no-stretch line at least at low tensions, which is where mono, sadly, usually has less to give. (You like the irony of words there? :) But, great test, Tyler! This is really good stuff! Thanks.

    Yes do the diameter test because I have learned that lb test don’t mean crap because it’s a sales catch. And i just skip all the confusion and extra money spending on line , I just go down on my mono leader size to get more depth on crank baits or those slow fishing days. I’m definitely a braid fan, I just went to 30 lb because i can us it year round with 15-12 mono. Good vid! God bless brother!

    I have been fishing for 25 years and I personally prefer a braid main line and a 3 foot fluorocarbon leader line. And a lot of people I've talked to recommend using a fluorocarbon leader line that is twice the length of your rod. But that's really not necessary to do that, all you really need is a 2 to 3 foot fluorocarbon leader line. Especially if you get a braid color that matches the environment you're fishing in which makes it less noticeable by the fish. For example the best colors of braid to use to match the environment are typically either green or gray. Green is best suited for if you're fishing in a clearer body of water with lots of vegetation surrounding it. And grey is better for when you're fishing in muddy murky water like the Mississippi River for example where I fish, which has very muddy murky water so grey blends in perfectly.

    Hey Tyler, good insights as usual 👊 I mostly use braid with fluorcarbon leader because in "my"' river there's lot of vegetation and braid cuts it better than all of the other lines. The leader is FC because it's thinner for the same weight and more invisible because of that... let's just say we shouldn't underestimate fish. So in my view braid is better for vegetation but sucks for rocks where fluor excels and mono is an all around line that does the job. You just kill me on "getting fish on the boat"... There's so much of us out there on the bank crying 🥲 Nice science BTW, nothing like testing things for ourselves at the end of the day 💪

I am sure some people would say that is wrong or whatever.. but it works for me. Just something to think about Tyler as somebody who primarily fishes very dirty water. I think it would make for an interesting convo with AJ to be honest. In dirty water we are taught to throw black & blue because the bass can pick it up better. Most of us who throw braid throw some version of dark green. Does dark green really stand out any less than black and blue? Just some food for thought.

  • @offthebeatentrail4476
    @offthebeatentrail447611 ай бұрын

    I agree it’s better to go by diameter. Because that also affects casting. So, in reality, I would agree that line size is more important than pound test. However, it’s also very important to consider pound test due to the fish are trying to catch. With all variables, I would personally say it’s best to go with a braid with the fluorocarbon leader for virtually any situation.

Have seen many videos and it seems to be all over the place with different anglers, not explaining it just observing their spools. Would be nice to have a video to just talk about this. To have a better result and more consistent, you should have used a scale and apply the same pressure. Example, make a knot at 15 and 30 feet, put 10lbs of pressure using the scale and then mark where you are at. That should give you a better comparison between lines. Of course, if you use different line strength, that should influence your results.

    In theory, if you get 2ft of stretch from 15ft of mono then you should get 4ft at 30ft. I think what’s happening here is that you’re using the same segment of line fo both the 15ft and and 30ft test and because you already stretched out the first 15ft, you only get 2ft (additional to the 2ft you already stretched) when you do the 30ft test.

Took us a week of scouting to find these spots, to steal from anglers. Tyler had nothing to do with it though. I was the ring leader. As the morning fog cleared we were spotted. Hey Tyler Tyler hit the gas I tell him. Tyler starts the engine emerges up from the swamps. Legend has it no one's ever seen the two again. To this day some say they still see the sightings of Neil bone and Tyler. 🦜🏴‍☠️

    I went from braid to flouro. My area is smallies hybrids,white bass, I used braid at first because I realized it handles fish better than any other line I’ve ever used. But. I’ve found that braided line don’t cast as far,makes sound, bad Frey,visibility in water and if the fights too good, the line on the spool can get so tight during the fight that it will tighten enough to tangle in on itself. So braid is iffy with me. But flouro only complaint is that line memory. But that only effects spinning reels not Baitcasters.

When said “which line is better than the other” to me in my opinion would be silly to say and in reality really limits a persons mind when saying that 👀 just like different sizes and actions of rods due to what they’re made of (glass, graphite, mixtures, etc.) everyone of these categories of line he is explaining all plays a very important role in the sport fishing.
