I remember when I saw my friends uncle out fishing with a really nice baitcaster. I of course had never touched a baitcaster in my life and I was very avid to try it. To give you an idea of my fishing skill, I pretty much had always used just a normal rod reel combo and never had done anything else. So my friends uncle kindly let me try it and I attempted to throw a cast and made about the biggest bird nest known to man kind. The thing was probably about the size of an actual bird's nest you'd find in a tree. You can assume he was not too impressed with my baitcaster skills.

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzread.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

For me learning I was given some sort of abu Garcia Blackmax setup and I was tooken to a lake and told and I had to stop the reel when casting. And that’s all I was told, the rest was for me to figure out. Not gonna lie probably my least productive fishing trip yet

Buy a rod-n-reel combo (spinning reel), take the pre-spooled line off (if it comes pre-spooled), look up how to put your own line on there (it's legit pretty easy, just sounds intimidating), and teach yourself how to cast, brother. We all gotta start somewhere! Once you've learned how to do that, you're on your way to catching your first fish. 😁

Great video!!!! Still laughing 😂. I tried to teach my youngest son on how to use a baitcaster. When we started I had hair like Bonjovi. By the end of the day, I looked more like Phil Collins. He would rather be playing video games than trying to learn to fish. Great video Lojo!!!

It was easy for me to learn because I had already fished like for 8 years before that. My dad said to put my thump on the spool right before it hits the ground ( I learned with a bullet weight tied to the end of the line throwing it to a 5 gallon bucket.) it took me about 2 weeks after that to get to fishing

@@Xhavokx107 Hey 2 years has gone by so I figured it’s about time to tell you what he means, you simply pull out about 30 yards then tape the line down on the reel. This means any birds nests will only be the first 30 yards, much easier to remove any birds nests you get.
