Which Barefaced bass cab? 12XN vs 10CR - there’s more to a speaker than how big it looks!

Музыка

Thank you again for translating what is probably complex engineering(as far as those of us who are not engineers) to layman's language!

The speaker has spoken of speakers! In all seriousness though, I'm incredibly happy with my Big Twin. Sonically it does precisely what I need and the response from it seems telepathic. Genuinely not sure if the rest of the band noticed it at the time but, when I was finally able to gig with the BT I felt that I locked in tighter with the drummer. It was a night and day difference for me that I wasn't even expecting. So not only am I saving my back, and getting precisely the tone I want, but I'm also able to have MUCH greater control of my rhythm with any project that I work with.

OK, I am absolutely convinced. My next bass cab will be either a Super Twin or Big Twin. The only question for me is whether or not I really need the tweeter. I'm inclined to say no, but I don't want to unnecessarily limit myself.

hey great this is the one I was waiting for since our last conversation (I wanted pure, honest acoustic electric piccolo bass as well as utterly disruptive sub-bass hip-hop and synth sounds). seems to me that the bt3 (or two singles) is probably the way I'll feel most comfortable with, even though I do love a great colored cab, I get 90% of my sound before the cab. cheers!

Bass drivers are so much more… flat shall I say than the focused midrange of a guitar speaker. Thanks for continuing to share the information Sir

I own both a One10T and a Big Twin III cab. They both sound fantastic. Looking forward to getting my One10 I have on order to pair with my One10T for gigs where the BTIII would be overkill.

Hi Alex, do you by any chance sell the drivers separately?

No, only as replacements for blown drivers (which is a rare occurrence!)

Talk about the almost complete absence of 'audible' fundamentals below 60 Hz in these small cabinets please.

Why are you assuming there is an “almost complete absence of audible fundamentals below 60Hz”?

We don’t sell our drivers on their own, only within the cabs we make!

How about giving us some speaker parameters like a speaker's RMS rating, and x-max numbers?

We don’t sell the 12XN or 10CR on their own so I don’t see why anyone would need these parameters? We consult with most of our customers by email to make sure they get the best possible cab for their needs, and that takes into account not just tonal requirements (and gear matching) but also loudness and low frequency output.

Nice video, but isn't it "bad" to have extended range as a distortion in an FRFR speaker sound terrible ?

Both our 12XN and 10CR roll off in the highs in a similar place to typical guitar speakers, although with much much less of a break-up peak. So they’re extended range compared to other high excursion 10” and 12” drivers (woofers and sub-woofers) and even compared to a lot of high output PA mid-bass drivers, which is why they work so well for bass guitar without needing a midrange driver or a huge PA horn driver. They’re definitely not FRFR on their own, you’d need one of our 12XN plus HF driver or tweeter models for that. I’m running tons of distortion in my current project (there’s no guitar so I have to fill a lot of space), I have literally four different dirt pedals on my board, three of which have 2+ stomp switches and for recording I’ll be running dry and wet DI plus a miced 12XN. Incidentally Buzz from Melvins runs his guitar (not bass guitar!) through a 4x12XN rig - tons of dirt coming out through two Super Twins. It sounds amazing!

@@BarefacedAudio And the 10" have mid grind like some Ampeg ? Really nice to hear that. But so it is better to got one of your cabinet without a tweeter ? Or with tweeter but turn in off or low to get a "standard" bass tone ?

I wish it was possible to make them less expensive whilst also being able to survive as a small business but sadly it isn’t.
