    Not the first time/last time you will read this: If you own a Barefaced cab, you are automatically drafted as an advisor into "why you should buy one". I had a Big Twin II built and from order to unpacking was less than 3 weeks from UK to Seattle. This cab speaks and fills a room in a way that no cab in memory has provided. I have run through 70's Acoustic, GK 4/10, Eden 4/10, Fender Neo 6/10 and Mesa 4/15, and all have moved the air, but Barefaced rearranges the air. Palpable! And it's painlessly lightweight.

    A few years ago I shopped and shopped and tried and tried a multitude of different cabinets, both traditional and lightweight. After discovering and researching Barefaced, I clicked the add to cart button. The super twin is massively articulate and powerful at 1200 W 4 ohms. Later, I also picked up their 610… Good night Gracie! I am not affiliated in any way with them other than the fact that I am a customer. Probably some of the best customer service anywhere on the globe. Incredible quality. It took about six weeks for each cabinet to be built and constructed, and from Brighton to the United States once completed shipped door-to-door in approximately 22 hours; no kidding. Cheers!

    You've made the tone of the 610 sound truly epic. I'm looking at Barefaced due to headroom limitations with my Aguilar SL212, and you've got both models I'm considering as an upgrade. I know they'll be pretty accurate, regardless, but which would you say is better for a deep, wide, hard-hitting metal tone? I'm using a 6-string thru an Orange Terror Bass, with a few EQs, preamps and dirt boxes in front, if that helps.

    Self adjust to a 100w vs 1200w amp? Oh come on Lee! Truth is these cabs (the 12" ones) have highly efficient speakers that will already go insanely loud with a 200w amp, but can handle a lot more watts if you insist on destroying your eardrums. Also a 2x12+hf weighing in at around 20 kilograms and having handles and casters ... It is just perfect and frankly worth every penny.

    I'm interested to know the limits of the 1 x 10 with a good infrasonic filter set where the speaker unloads from the box tuning and a few hundred watts available (so that the speaker is the limiting factor and the signal stays clean). Either way I bet it would make my MB30 look like a toy. I also want to know just how large that cab can sound in the corner of a room.

  • @BarefacedAudio

    @BarefacedAudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think it's Polk that are notable for making a big thing of the down-firing port in hi-fi - it's a good way to extend the port length without taking up internal enclosure volume, plus you can use it to mask escaping higher frequencies or air noises. This isn't a normal reflex port, it's actually the external outlet of the One10's Hybrid Resonator enclosure, which is a concept that's unique to our Barefaced 10CR cabs. The standard down-firing or optional side-firing location allows you to change the tone to suit the room acoustics by changing the cab's orientation. For our 12XN range (which are ported cabs not Hybrid Resonators) we use large forward-firing rectangular ports for greater output and improved accuracy at high SPL.

  • @PlayWithYourThumb

    @PlayWithYourThumb

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@BarefacedAudio Interesting idea, is there a published image of the resonator or is it proprietary? From what little I can glean from the interwebs I was guessing that it was a passive radiator ie: speaker without a magnet. I know Orange did that a few years ago, never got to try one, thou from your reply your resonator seems to be tuned and ported separately to the main driver? I’m just curious as I built my first two bass cabs myself, designed using a freeware software program. Unfortunately I had to eventually go the Class D/Neodymium cab route as I’m an old fart and my homemade cabs weighed a tonne.

  • @BarefacedAudio

    @BarefacedAudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@PlayWithYourThumb I think the Orange cabs you're referring to were their isobaric ones which were a very different thing - isobaric means you pay to have to two speakers in a cab but only one of the speakers produces lows, whilst the second speaker makes the first speaker think it's in a double size box, for deeper lows. Unfortunately the second speaker and its own enclosure takes up space that the first speaker could have used, so in the case of the Orange SP210 cab you end up with a 2x10" cab with the same efficiency as a 1x10" cab, the same max output as a 1x10" cab, more weight and cost than a 1x10" cab but it is slightly smaller than a 1x10" with the same LF response. Mesa Boogie have did use a passive radiator as well as a reflex port on their Walkabout combo, which I thought was quite a neat solution. The Hybrid Resonator is our own unique enclosure design - I didn't realise how unusual it was until too, or I'd have applied for a patent! It allows the use of a speaker with a very lightweight cone for higher efficiency and wider bandwidth (especially in the power response) without also needing a huge enclosure volume per woofer or accepting poor low frequency response. The low frequency roll-off (and thus feel) is more like a sealed box but the max low frequency output and efficiency is more like a ported box. It's a big part of why the One10 amazes people. FYI - our 10CR cabs don't have neo magnets. Nor do most of our AVD guitar ones. You don't need neo magnets to make a lightweight speaker cab!

  • @BarefacedAudio

    @BarefacedAudio

    3 жыл бұрын

    I forgot to mention that in a hi-fi isobaric cab you only have true woofers (so in a 3 or 4-way cab) in an isobaric situation. If you go isobaric with drivers than run into the midrange then the shorter wavelengths means that the output from the rear woofer interferes with the output from the front woofer (it literally fires mid and treble through it with an effective delay) causing severe comb filtering and uneven frequency response. I think isobaric hi-fi cabs have pretty much died out now that speaker manufacturers are making speakers that work well in much smaller enclosure air volumes.

    You'll struggle to get a decent speaker to fit in such a shallow depth, and if you can you'll have a bit of a battle to damp down earlier reflections that would mess up your mids. You need to make the large panels of the case much stiffer than they normally are or they'll act as huge (badly) tuned resonators messing up the low frequencies. And the case will need to be totally air tight when it's shut. Basically, once you've done all that you'll end up with a very big heavy case, and it would be a lot easier and better sounding to have one of our Barefaced cabs, a lightweight head, and a gigbag!

    Actually that’s not correct. It isn’t a conventional port, despite what it appears to be - what you’re seeing is the external outlet of the unique Hybrid Resonator enclosure design in all our 10CR cabs. The One10’s default orientation is vertical (as the Anderton’s guys were using it) but you can use it sideways, which makes the lows fatter but less deep and tight.

    AttakaiMusic The only way to make these cheaper is to pay less to the people making them and likewise to all the other people in the supply chain (and no-one is getting rich making these). The materials are expensive, the products are complex and they take a long time to build. However those who buy Barefaced cabs tend to keep them for a long time and if they do sell them they tend to suffer less depreciation than most - so over the lifetime of use they work out as surprisingly good value.
