Where was the Garden of Eden?

Can the exact location of the Garden of Eden be pinpointed on a map? What does “...and the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the East” mean?
Biblical mention suggests the “Land of Cush” to be between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers tie Eden with Mesopotamia in the Middle East. Other references are the Gihon River, which goes through the Land of Cush, or Ethiopia, and the Pishon River that goes through the land of Havilah, both in Africa.
Some scripture interpretations use the Garden of Eden as a point in time, while others such as Genesis 3:24 state “at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a” flaming sword guarding “way to the Tree of Life.”
Ancient interpreters of the Bible hypothesized the Garden of Eden was a state of mind. Turn to Bible verses describing where - and what - the Garden of Eden was, including Genesis 2 regarding Lord God creating the first man and woman - Adam and Eve. In Genesis 2, the Tree of Life and Tree of Knowledge are each mentioned, but are they in the same place?
It could be that the Garden of Eden was physically located in southern Mesopotamia before the flood. It also could be where Adam was expelled, a place which Jesus Christ referred to while on the cross.
