Athenagoras of Athens and His Writings | Church Fathers

What do we know about the writings of Athenagoras? What were his writings? Who was Athenagoras of Athens? In this video, we'll take a closer look at the Chruch Father, and what his writings meant in relation to the Bible.
Excerpt:
Athenagoras's Plea for the Christians demonstrates a refined philosophical argument defending the cause of persecuted Christians in the later second century church. Little is known of the author himself. Athenagoras's name does not even appear in the work or in Eusebius's Ecclesiastical History, which attempted to list major Christian writings in the early church era. However, Athenagoras's style is distinct as someone with extensive training in the philosophy of Plato and in Greco-Roman rhetoric. Athens itself was well known as a center for politics and education during the golden era of classical Greece. Following the Roman invasion of 146 BC, Athens' emphasis on philosophical education continued well into the next few centuries.

The Eucharist and accusation of cannibalism part confuses me....are you saying Christians didint believe the Eucharist was the literally body and blood of Christ? This is not correct, all Apostolic churches believe in the real presence of Christ body and blood in the Eucharist. Other then that, great video!

No. Orthodox Christians believe that this is TRULY the body of Christ. However, the pagans thoughts we slaughter a human and feed on flesh and blood.

1 Cor 11:23-29 shows us that Paul was indeed teaching that the Lord's physical presence was available in the bread and wine of the Lords's Supper. This was prophesied by Jesus and recorded in John 6:51-59.
