This is genius. Pete is dumb for not drafting a qb when you just watched a video outlining how they turned a throw away qb into a top 10 qb. A qb they just re-signed. Pretty much the dumbest comment you could make in this thread.

I still think Geno's game against Baylor is the best game of QB I have ever seen anyone play. 656 yds and 8 TDs almost does not do justice to how well he was throwing that day.

Speaks volumes about his character that the guy he replaced is one of his biggest fans. Geno deserves this.
as a hawks fan, the thing that i noticed immediately from Geno was his pocket poise. After years of watching Russell get happy feet whenever there was a lineman within 2 feet of him, it was refreshing to see Geno do a better job of balancing the fine line between tunnel vision on the pass and constantly worrying about pass protection. He had trust in his line to give him just enough time to make the reads he needed. It felt good.

really happy he found that success. i love a good redemption arc.
That pass to Lockett over three Saints defenders was just disgusting. Geno was balling last season.
Geno Smith always struck me as a career backup. I was seriously mistaken.

Thing is I never believed it was all on him. I think he got a bad label which ironically other bad franchises who got to draft high were picking up young QBs with his similar profile but whiffing with them. But also much has changed in terms of how offensive minds have approached the run-pass game in a decade which could have taken Geno's tools and make something out of it. Hell when you got Kyle Shanahan-McVay offenses able to take marginally good QBs and turn them to big time floor raisers with talents on offense, it was only a matter of time until Geno gets in a good situation like that. But Geno is whole ass reclamation project considering what else he gives to the pass game.

@@t4d0W There are almost definitely a bunch of guys who never amounted to anything in the NFL who had the ability to be great in a perfect situation. Most of the best QBs not only have the talent, but land in a great spot. Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Mahomes, Lamar, Russ, JimmyG, Hurts, Dak, and so on. A lot of those guys may never have prospered if they ended up with the Lions, Commies, Cards, Browns, Raiders, etc.

This season has some serious 2012/2013 vibes... It's also possible we get a 2011 type season. The rookie class on this team is so exciting, and Geno will shine this year. NFC is up for grabs and Seattle has a shot here... 💙💚🔥🏈

Love the Geno story. Used to use him on the jets in madden 25. Last year i grabbed him off the waiver wire after three HUGE performances and bro didn’t disappoint, geno was a new man that year
Watching and learning from behind Russell Wilson and being in the Pete Carroll system all those years paid good dividends.
Glad you are checking in on Washington. It’s truly the best state for everything in my opinion. You got ocean, rivers, lakes, mountains, deserts, plains, etc. all within 1-2 hours

I think a big part of it truly was the support he got from the team and fancase as a whole. The moment he was named starter people were chanting "GENO GENO GENO". And yeah, it was basically as a joke at first. People thought it was a throw away year so why not be goofy and put all your faith in a one year throwaway qb. But then it turned serious and the support stuck. You see way too many instances with new, often young, qbs coming in and immediately facing scrutiny, looking at you Jets and Browns. But the whole team had his back from the start and it really showed in his confidence.

Look at dudes like Hurts and even Tua. Or Josh Allen. Teams are too stuck in win-now mode the past decade or so and a lot of guys never get to develop. Jordan Love will be interesting to see this year. As will Daniel Jones, I'm really curious if he can continue to improve or if he just is who he is. Same with Geno. I don't think his season was a fluke but we'll see. His 2nd half was much worse than the 1st half of the year.
Geno played like rent was due. I really hope this continues till his retirement
i was gonna comment about brett cursing seattle or giving the seahawks training camp experience the praise it deserves, but there’s something more important. brett is the first human on earth to talk POSITIVELY about FEDERAL WAY. thank you for seahawks acknowledgement for this episode, brett. been watching since before i could legally buy whiskey.
Geno was insane at WVU. He never got a fair look for the Giants. So happy to see him with a chance to succeed.
In 2018 took a chance at a dream job in Seattle for a year, and made a last second decision as a Rams fan... the night before the game... to buy a ticket for the Rams coming to town with a 5-0 Record. I woke up the next morning, put on My Goff Jersey, and ventured into what was any other day of the year just "down town" for me, but today, while where I lived, was "Enemy Territory" so to speak. Much to my relief and pride the people of Seattle were as nice to me as any other day and I had an amazing experience and I can confirm that Century Link Field is STUPIDLY LOUD. It was an amazing game, and I even made friends with one or two Seahawk's fans around me, and at one point after a huge play (maybe a TD, I cant remember) I looked up, and the stadium was SO LOUD, I didn't realize a full sized passenger jet plane was not far over head taking off or landing in or out of the nearby airport in Seattle. I could see the plane, I could not hear it... over the stadium crowd I was in... while it was low to the ground for take off or landing. And also yes, when I moved out there, before I even got to Seattle on my drive out during the move, the first thing I noticed was how beautiful Washington State was.
Can I just say that I appreciate that you state your general conclusions pretty early on in the video
Bro, dude has been a HoF talent since he stepped foot in the league
As a Jets fan, it upsets me that we didn’t witness this Geno, but I couldn’t be anything other than proud of him.
As a Jets fan: I knew we did him extremely dirty, and that giving up on him that quickly was going to bite us in the ass. He is the one guy we've drafted since 2000 other than Pennington who could've been it if we'd been a little more patient.
man i wish i would have went to training camp knowing you were there! Seattle and surrounding areas (im from Olympia, the captial) are all beautful! thanks for sheading light on this amazing team we got.

Hell yeah, glad you had a good time here Brett.
As a 49er fan who is disgruntled with how Trey Lance was handled, I was kinda hoping he'd end up in Seattle.

ive been a geno truther since russ got traded and you dont know how good it felt to be right about that, literally did victory laps on half the internet when i was done.
I'm glad you had very nice things to say about Washington, I've lived here all my life and the amount of nature you can get that's only a few hours (or sometimes minutes) away is simply amazing. People really sleep on the food in Washington too, we have great variety and I know Californians and people from the Southwest might turn up their noses at our Mexican food but trust me, there are so many small towns that just have amazing Mexican food that can rival anything from those places.
@t4d0W
10 ай бұрын
I mean the Californians and the Southwesterners may turn their nose because they know they can get that type of quality Mexican food by their area. If anything its just a benefit to your area that you can get similar quality that is locally available to you. Like you can talk up if your local area has great Jamaican food but if they aren't rude or they don't serve goat, you and your locals can go appreciate their taste.
Lmao hearing “Woodinville” come out of your mouth was a world shaker being from there, super small lil city, if you ever come out def throw up a post and I’ll see about meeting you to show you around🤯😂 some of the best wine country in the world but nobody talks about how good the whiskey and brews are here too, all that credit goes to Portland for some ungodly reason. You forgot about Geno cutting one of the coldest promos of all time after Monday night beat down of the broncos. “They wrote me off, but I didn’t write back”
As a Jets fan it makes me happy to see geno find success- he had some unbelievably bad luck near the end of his time on the team. I hope Darnold has a similar story………
Seeing Geno be successful in Seattle is awesome!
I saw today showing he was on fire the first 13 weeks, but cooled off a bit the rest of the season. I didn’t pay too much attention to him and the hawks last season, but hope that he is able to keep it up this year, showing that it’s possible to emerge to greatness later in your career than having to explode out the gate as most people seem to act is necessary for success at the qb position.
Shoutout Brandon and the Sea Hawkers - great pod
People tend to associate Geno with his days on the Jets, or the title of "that guy who ruined Eli Manning's start streak" for the Giants. They didn't see how much he'd matured, from a guy who got punched out by a teammate in a locker room, to the disciplined backup QB, to the legit starter for the franchise. Pete Carroll is really good at coaching up players who feel they've been slighted, the guys with an axe to grind, or a chip on their shoulder, or any other cliched saying. He is somehow able to get them to use that adversity to their benefit, to focus their energies on self-improvement rather than reflecting on the negative stuff being said about them. Their practices are all about competing for each snap, but not just to beat your teammates to the ball, but to improve their level of play along with your own. It's been a winning formula for Pete Carroll's tenure with the second most wins over the last 10 years. If this new young roster can live up to the hype around them, there's no telling what they can achieve this season.
@beclairful
10 ай бұрын
Well said… that IS Coach Carroll’s formula…. He wants players who come to practice every day with that “compete” mindset and play on the field with “a chip on their shoulder” ….👍🏻🏈
As a Seahawks fan and Seattlite, I very much enjoyed watching this, thank you 🫡
Geno's arm is no fluke. Even Mahomes complemented his perfect spiral
I am so happy to see Geno succeeding. His journey is crazy.
Great video. Yes Geno!!!🎉
3 days before the end of the month. So proud of you Bret!
Thank you Brett
This is an awesome video, but as someone from Seattle- it's not "Pike's Place" it's "PIKE Place". Yes, we really get goofy about such things. :D Geno is awesome. GO HAWKS!
The NFL should take this as a lesson and give more opportunities to guys like Geno. When you look at his career, he never got to have a sophomore season, and he never had a good team around him. Last night year was his 9th year in the league, but it was truly only his second year as a starter. He made the year one to year two jump that's expected of franchise QBs, it just took him 8 years because he was written off. There are probably a lot of QBs in backup roles that were given up on too early and don't have the tape to backup the "we know who he is" narrative.
I guess getting away from the Jets really does give you an upgrade.
The puget sound and the greater Pacific Northwest is a national treasure.

As a Washingtonian here in Florida. I miss the beauty of our mountains and nature.
What a nice way to start a video. Thanks
It is stunning up here… in the summer
I have this gut feeling that there's probably a *lot* of QBs who could have this kind of transformation, but they are drafted into a difficult situation - bad team, bad OL, no real WR1, etc. - and struggle early. Then the coach/GM combo that drafted them gets fired, and the new guys in charge don't see him as "their guy" so he gets phased out. If he's lucky, he'll get another chance or two, where he may or may not survive...until, if they're really fortunate, they last in the league into their late 20s-early 30s when they've seen enough in games that everything has slowed down and they know virtually all the coverages they're likely to face, how to handle themselves in terms of prepping for a full season, etc., and suddenly its like everything comes together for them. As amazing as Mahomes, Herbert, etc. success has been, the downside to that is the expectation now is that QBs need to be dominating by no later than their second season or they get kicked to the curb, and for some quarterbacks the learning curve just takes longer than that, time that they don't get in a majority of situations these days.
seems like you should have like eight million subscribers .. anyway thanks for another great video. I enjoyed the intro on the climate at puget sound
