From the popular Cuphead video game, comes an all new fast action, original cooperative dice game where players must roll dice to defeat iconic bosses. Featuring the classic hand-drawn 1930’s art style, this card and dice game emulates the side-scrolling, run-and-gun excitement from the video game. Work together to be quick and nimble to avoid the attacks and defeat the bosses to win. Includes custom art, 8 Boss Decks, custom dice and more!

We bought it. Played it with immediate family. Introduced it to friends. Everyone loved it. Not one person hated it. “What you were looking for” seems to be the problem. Try seeing if you like what you get, instead of having expectations. You enjoy the game more.

10:29 - A note to Shira, the video game Cuphead is NOT a Platformer video game. It is a boss-battler game with a few side-scrolling levels forced into when early reviewers complained that they weren’t there because they didn’t understand yet what the game was. It is a very difficult boss battler game with a great 1920’s/1930’s like cartoon style. Hopefully this helps you understand what this game was trying to emulate. Not sure how well it actually did that thou, as this seems more about dice rolling luck while the video game is more about patterns, timing, and dexterous controller skills.

I’d be surprised if any designer successfully pulled off a meaty Cuphead board game. I think ppl who don’t know about Cuphead will compare Cuphead to Townsfolk Tussle instead of the other way around. I’m not sure what genre Cuphead the board game would really succeed in. I believe many would have their idea but we won’t really know until it’s here.

@@randalladkins7452 Perhaps. I think anything’s up for grabs at this point. Cuphead has a bit of a cult following that I believe ppl will always be willing to try it out if Cuphead’s involved. I thought about the sliding mechanics that some games have like Shovel Knight and The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade. Both games tried to emulate that scrolling aspect retro and retro like video games have. I do believe if Cuphead ends up in a meatier game, minis might be something that’s expected or strongly wanted even if the minis are more for collectible or aesthetics reasons.

Why would anyone want this to be the video game? If I want to play Cuphead video game I’d play the video game. This is exactly what I wanted to be. It’s frantic fun. I also don’t get the idea that one needs to be a novice to enjoy this. I’ve played many real time games, been playing games for a while now from light to heavy and this is equally as fun as any real time games I’ve played. Sits nicely next to Fuse for me.

im in the process of playing through this one for review and so far i have found i quite enjoy the timer in a solo setting not so sure how i would feel about it in a multiplayer setting as i would imagine trying to keep an eye on the other players and trying to work together getting in the way... although i do think 20 sec for easy is a little tight i would say my house rule would be 30 sec for very easy with minus 5 points for using it good video guys Stay Hexy!

Hey, I'm definitely excited to hear your thoughts! I was worried that we would disagree too much but I think Jesse got pretty close in terms of ratings. I would put it at a straight up 4, with my reservations being that I felt like some of the bosses fell flat when it comes to what they are trying to be (like Jesse was saying) and also it felt like there weren't enough upgrades. However, this has all of the purchaseable upgrades from the original game, so I don't know what more they could add. Also in terms of charms, you can (95% sure) use charms in any fight even if it is an airplane one, so you would be able to use smoke bomb against the genie etc! My only other reservation about the game is that the boss selection was kind of odd. No Ribby and Croaks, baroness von bon bon, Phantom Express were missed. But then again, what are you gonna do if you are limited to only putting 8 bosses in a box? My favorite boss in this box was King Dice because it flipped the script the most, which is unfortunate because the devil afterwards felt like such a letdown after. I think this game deserves an expansion that adds more favorites and continues to change the formula. Push the limits of this system, because it would be really fun if more boss fights (like king dice) pushed the envelope in different ways. Rant over. Thanks for the thoughts guys! I always like having discussion on games I like, even disagreeing, because disagreement leads to new ideas!

I havent played many, but I would recommend five minute dungeon which is simple but chaotic. There is also a time element in galaxy trucker that I really like, where everyone has infinite time until the first person is done randomly picking tiles for their ship and then you have until a timer goes off.

i'm considering scooping this up as a palate cleanser type game for nights when we have some time left after a more crunchy main feature game. looks like it'd be chaotic fun at 4 players. (definitely would never play it solo, tho, since dice hate me and i think the fun would mostly come from the multi-person mad scramble factor.)

If you don't like real-time games, try the XCOM board game. It has a real-time phase where you have to make decisions, but then there is an untimed phase where you get to implement your decisions. Highly recommended at four-players though: one person per-role is the best way to play.

  • @puffcap_

I want to love this game because the aesthetic is so nice, but it seems really really shallow. Roll dice, hope it matches. Theres no meaningful choices to make, and there are no other systems to compliment the dice. EDIT: I think I would rather them go all in on the theme and make it a gambling themed, completely random push your luck game. It feels like it WANTS to be like that but it only went in halfway (or less to be honest). Or, they could back off and expand on something closer the videogame specifically with sidescrolling, shoot em up, and bullet hell style mechanics.

I wish the guy (sorry can't find the name) would stop interrupting his co-reviewers - I've seen quite a few Quackalope videos by now, and I think this is a recurring problem. I think it's become a bit better compared to older videoes, but the conversations still seem a bit stressed to me. It would be nice to leave room for pauses, and to see if the other reviewer has more to add, instead of finishing their sentences, or jumping in when there's a short break. Otherwise, great video :)

  • @MurrRockstroh
    @MurrRockstroh2 жыл бұрын

An easy way to fix that real time problem you mentioned, where you only have 10 seconds and can't do it is extend the time out. Double it, see how that feels instead. We often do this when playing a timed game if we feel the time limit is just too punishing or tight. Or if you want, base your time on the other player(s) times. When one player is done, start a 10 second or whatever countdown to finish. I don't know enough about this game to know which solution would work. Those are few things you might try in the future with the real time style games.

Thanks!! for a review. love your content and i like that you try out new ways to produce videos , though some pointers that me as a non english native speaker notices. you both feel rushed and talk very quick sometimes, im guessing its got to do with you both being passionate and eager, but its sometimes hard to listen that what word comes on next. secondly im thinking your new format involves alot of practice for both of you on your ping pong , sometimes it feels like you interrupt each other and that confuses me as a listener. Anyways , im still here :) rock on !

Sorry to be negative, but it’s painful to watch this guy constantly talking over / correcting / checking the girl’s portion of the review. It feels like she has to be spot-on with what genre of dice game this is or what the format of the video is or else she’s going to be corrected and made to feel she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. I remember stumbling onto another video from this channel a few months ago and had to shut it off because it felt too uncomfortable. As an aside, I think a review from the point of view of someone who hasn’t played Cuphead (the video game) is just as legitimate as someone who has. I just watched a four corners review from the Dice Tower on the Stardew Valley board game and even though some of the reviewers had not played Stardew Valley, their opinion was still valuable. No one was low-key shaming those guys for not being familiar.

I really like the format and look forward to when you guys establish an easier flow together. That takes time :). I think J is trying to keep it for nostalgia purposes, like you feel you OUGHT to like it or understand it...spend your design investigation points into a different game though and leave this one for the "I don't really play games" set or the "gotta get my young boys to do something besides video games" households :).

I really appreciate this channel, you all give it 110% on every video. However, sometimes you can over explain your videos and how you will approach it, instead of finding your style and executing it. It can come off as awkward, and adds fluff to the video that may not need to be there. You all have the quality and passion, just hide some of your administration stuff and project planning behind the curtain of "movie magic". I am fine with you not cutting when you make a mistake, that's not what I am talking about, but pointing out that you don't cut for every mistake you make, isn't necessary. This is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. But I do think these things distract the listener from the main quality of the content.
