Magic! there's a lot of cutting in your videos, more than most. But I think it fits with how you do your videos. It's kinda in your face and 90s! 😂 keep it up man! I enjoy the mad mental banter and straight to the fkn point! 👍🏻 And Fister!!! I bet a million things were flying through our head with that name! 😂😂😂

OMG this review made me spit my coffee out laughing at the end. New sub / fan here. Just played Broom Service for the first time last night and was wanting to see what others think. I loved the game and totally agree on the 5 player aspect.

I just had a blast at a game con where broom service was played at 5 player count. It was very immersive and tons of stuff happening and you need to read the board and work on the assumption that people do sensible things and hence choose cards that help them. So, you have more information than just probabilities whether the persons next will have that card you played. And the price they pay when going brave and canceling your action will be they go first and then their next card can’t be played brave but they really want to play it brave so they go cowardly this round letting you get away with bold. And that’s just like with Hansa Teutonica, a group dynamics thing. With idiots the whole game would tank. With idiots you’re convicted to idiot proof games like Puerto Rico and Power Grid. Broom service shines among non drunk gamers. You may just haven’t been playing with the right group.

I have a suggestion for you. It can be found cheap over here, but I don't know what availability is like over there. The game is Megaland. Very simple light game. A push your luck game, like Incan Gold, but also has an engine building aspect like Machi Koro. You push your luck, gain some resources, spend resources on upgrading or purchasing buildings (buildings = abilities or coins (coins = victory points)), and it's a race to see who get 20 coins first. It's fun. Has the tension of push your luck, but also has some depth because you then invest in certain ways to try to give yourself advantages over the other players. Passive, there's no direct confrontation. It's very light, and plays fairly quick (you could increase the VP number).

I don’t know if I’ve been playing this game wrong but I was under the assumption that if someone plays a card and you had it in your hand you had to play it … you just choose if you play it brave or cowardly. Oh and with lower player counts certain cards are revealed face up that can be taken with a penalty. My favorite player count is actually three because it gives you that balance between the punishment at the high player count but not as black and white in success as with two players. Hope you get a chance to revisit the game!

5:40 dont talk shit (or shite as you guys say) about the witch pawns. They are simple but charming. The cursed cards are okay, it is a bit of a hack, but you can still play them. A brave druid or feather fairy will get you +3 VP to counteract the curse, and since it is cursed people tend to avoid playing that card. Of course, if someone confidently plays a brave druid, only for you to also flip that cursed druid, you can really trip someone up and have a laugh.

@@BoardGameBollocks Sure. The game can be punishing if you get blocked many times, especially on cursed cards. But you can mitigate your gambling. For example holding the card back until most players have played out their cards so you know the chance of someone also having the cursed card is low. Especially if the person whom is most likely to also have it (lets say the weather fairy and one other player also has a ton of wands) already showed all his 4 cards. You can also wait till youre one of the last players in turn order to make the odds of getting blocked lower. The biggest problem I have with the game is that, if youre behind, you feel like you need to push your luck to try and get back into the game, only to get more behind. At the same time, some players seem a bit overeager to always play brave, and I think they underestimate how much they stand to lose.

@anonvideo738 holding back the cards means you can’t do anything until you play it. The exact problem I’m talking about.

I'd be curious to try a revised version of this that doesn't use VP as the victory condition. For some reason I think it would work better with objectives. I think I agree about the player scaling, the card penalties feel lazy and arbitrary. Which is too bad, because at 2P the headgames and yomi are even more intense!

I soooo disagree with you both. Broom Service is one of my all time favs, and honestly, the aspect of the penalty cards adds so much to the game. You can still play them, but they are even riskier. I often play them in the hopes that no one else will and therefore gives me an automatic Brave. I really think it isnt a design flaw

I came across your earlier site. You were such a well spoken young man but then of course the bollocks dropped. I wish I had come across your site before I bought the execrable Wasteland Express. I have bought a few Cthulhu games but none that have so easily encompassed boardgame horror. Thanks for your work. It is rather splendid. My wife, fortunately not in the biblical sense, appreciates you. I buy the occasional game, and she says is that one the odd chap has recommended. Yeah I say he is a rude but jolly fellow.

I was wondering what's up with those shitty cards, that's some dedication! На здоровье! That 'what don't we like' lead up was immensely intense this time. And I appreciate the lack of fisting reference in the review of a kid friendly game, just as I appreciate its presence in the other two previous mentions of Phister.
