I love that J Cole takes the time to sit down and understand people and publicly genuinely apologize I know people see that as weak but he wants to evolve every day and that’s a great example. Him apologizing and understanding as a way to resolve conflict is growing maturity and that combined with your artistry IS important. I don’t listen to his music, I’m also trans and intersex and heard about the transphobic stuff, and I hope he does another sit down conversation with black trans men and nonbinary folks (the ppl he targeted) to build understanding and solidarity. You don’t have to be a good artist to be a decent person and I like watching him reset some standards regarding “traditional” masculinity. I feel like he could gain a lot from just expanding how he moves to ppl he’s “phobic” against and a mutual appreciation could be formed. Ik his ass is lurking but seriously if he wants to be that change he can keep growing as a person.
I miss when pump was big from 2017 to 2019, or when other soundcloud rappers were big. 2017 to 2018 was one of the best of times, were booming along with 2016. Even the trap industry was at it's highest peak. Rip to those times, cuz rn life in general feels boring af

We’re almost out of this mega era of rap. Every few years new waves happen of course, like SoundCloud in 2015-2018, and then the lil baby, durk, yb, tjay, polo era from 2019- to now, but we can feel the change starting even though we’re still in this era with the new Kendrick song, carnival, jid, that jack harlow song, blp kosher etc. A whole new generations gonna be in soon, or a new mega era.

My little sister still says Lil Pumps catch phrases rarely. Dude definitely left an impact on a generation.
Quality over quantity is the KEY ingredient missing from music now.. Cole may have directed that at Pump but tbh he honestly told us not just what’s wrong with just Pump but now music as a whole.. It’s based on marketing and maybe ONE good song.. Not any level of quality output tbh..
is it bad that i kinda miss lil pump and alot of people from his group
I don't know, Sound Cloud Rappers provided a new style and of course many were shit but some had a huge influence on hiphop. Juice Wrld, XXX, Post Malone, Lil Uzi, 21, Playboy Carti, the success of sound cloud rappers influenced the industry heavily and brought some new styles and innovations. And honstely even lil pump despite his contoversial personality had some enjoyable music. Something the industry lacks heavily today, honestly in the last 2-3 years I heard less and less rap music. The rap music in my country is stagnating since the late 2010s, you can listen to a song from 2018 and it won't sound different to songs today. Same happened to the US market a little bit later, since 2-3 years I feel like hearing the same type of songs over and over again. For me rap got boring, in the 2010s rap from 2010 feeled different then rap from 2013, rap from 2013 different from rap in 2016 etc. But rap from 2024? Honestly could mostly be released in 2021.

The most annoying part about this era, was the people who ONLY messed with traditional rappers and would try and say your lying when you tell them you actually like both j Cole and the Soundcloud era
tbh yachy's criticism on new artists is valid - his effort is shown thru his ghostwriting. probs the best place for him to stay;
Lil yachty with his new album and his j cole song where they go bar for bar really shows a positive movement for him in my opinion you look at the comments in that video and you see nothing but positive feedback i think hes got something going for him
That lil pump and cold interview... any more chilled back and they would be behind the sofa peeking their heads to talk to each other. They both looked like they were about to fall asleep talking to each other in their dreams.

Every time I watch these videos, I feel kinda bummed. Only guy in the list actually Independent is Lil Pump. Hence why he can move how he wants and still make good money even with a "fall off" career. I listen to SoundCloud because the artists are majority independent and free of label institutionalization. Lil Darkie is one of my favorite artists and is, quite frankly, NOT talked about enough in hip hop crowds because he has a metal and punk influence. I believe a huge part of the beauty of hip hop and rap is its ability to be diverse and still stand out in every genre it presents itself in and the roots of hip hop is from people with no connections, no nepotism, no contracted obligations, and no selling out. Wu Tang Clan is the most iconic rap group of all time and they have endless punk rock notes, yet the demographic of artists that keep that style alive still go unspoken of by people with mainstream or rather larger platforms to speak of it on. Good video nonetheless!
Man I'm 45 and a old head. O been rapping since i was 13 and I agree with yachty. Shit not everyone is in it to be a Kendrick or Nas. At the end of the day it's a job. An one you could easily lose at that. Why hate on this young man for being aware if that and getting what he can while he can? He was wrong for disrespecting the greats but I don't disagree with him for saying he don't take it seriously.
Bro gimme a video history on Wifisfuneral.
“limelight uh”
The real question is how Does Adam16 and under have any pull in the game at all still?
The problem with this culture is that it is causing mental health problems. The people, the lifestyles, the culture, the women.
The problem is that hip hop doesn't realize that hip hop, isn't hip hop nowadays. Back then hip hop was all about hustlin and making it out of the hood etc. Nowadays you have big labels just massively boosting these industry plants paving their way to success. These "old hats" hip hop fans should change their view on hip hop itself.
Yo ma music might b sum soundcloud shi but u cannot catch me doin ts🤣🤣

Looking back at this, Idk why people are surprised: Cole's always been on this conflict-resolution approach.
Retrospectively everyone mentions how good 2016-2018 was (and in some ways it was, because it was like peak-trap) but beyond the houseparties and hazy basement stu's (what I was up to at the time finishing up hs/starting college), the music genuinely sucked. Like it's hard to listen to now, and this trip thru memory lane definitely reminds me that lol (though I will say sounds like deconstructed-club/PC-music/pre-2019-hyperpop from the 2016-2018 era I can still listen to just not any of the soundcloud shit or folkpunk).
