Maho Shoujo is pronounced Ma-hoe Show-Joe Its a Japanese term that means "Magical Girl" (Maho = Magical, Shoujo = Girl) If you have any familiarity with Sailor Moon, that's the most well known version of it. Typically revolves around a regular girl who transforms into a magical girl. Often transforming into it then back to return to normal life, and repeat. Sort of like how Power Ranges turns into their "Ranger" form, but after the "event" they go back to their average lives.

Yeah! As an autistic person myself, TTRPGs are the perfect social setting for me, because it's easier for me to figure out when it's my turn to talk (or if I even get a turn) when we're roleplaying or doing turn-based combat.

OP in the last story had some real friends come to the rescue- hope Roommate is soon a thing of the past and that OP gets into a better situation soon.

Feeling a need to "establish dominance" when joining a new group seems like a sign of insecurity. It's something that can be worked through, but the person needs to be aware of it and willing to work with their insecurities.

The third story makes my head hurt from how stupid the prejudice was and how they acted. Obviously the now ex friend for losing their shit over something that had literally nothing to do with them besides being in their range of vision. Just, seriously? You're killing a friendship over that? Then there's the DM who, instead of being even the tiniest bit of a decent person, just decides to put his finger on the killswitch and putting it on OP, the victim of this situation, that everything got cancelled

u/Umbra_Dominus is definitely better off in the new games and away from those toxic idiots in the other game. Actually glad the GM decided to throw his toys out of the cot and stop running any games at all - because that's one less shitty GM in the world. Neither Asshole or Late really deserve a game and anyone who actually *is* a nice person playing in any of the One Shots is better off not having any involvement with GM, Asshole or Late, anyway.

"Mahou Shojo" is the japanese term for the Magical Girls show - you know, like Sailormoon. As a matter of fact, "magical girl" is the literal translation of Mahou Shojo...

Reminded me of a former best friend I had in a friend group. She'd do all the same shit plus isolating all of us, monitoring our social media accounts, sending anonymous hate messages, lying about having cancer and diabetes, pressuring us to buy her things, stealing our debit card information. It reminded me so much of her, even the roommate bits, that I honestly wondered if this could be her.

Even the phone bit and the glares. The phone thing and boredom would be done to make us give in to her whims and the glares usually cause she was talking shit about us via her phone. Even the terrified bit. She'd do all this shit and then complain that about one of us and say she just needed to vent or else she didn't know what to do. She was just seeing red. She couldn't control herself. We were constantly trying to avoid her angry outbursts. Platonic abuse unfortunately happens and I didn't see the signs because no one says it.

Her parents came out of town to do her chores. No wonder why she's an awful person, they enable it!

I had a roommate in my freshman year whose mother came from out of STATE to do her chores. When we were discussing chore distribution in the apartment, she literally said, "I shouldn't have to clean the toilet, because I'm from California." As if they don't have clean toilets in California??? Never did understand that logic. But, when he mother came over several times a month, from California, I realized why she got the idea that she shouldn't have to clean toilets, in the first place. Not the reasoning, just where she got the idea. So sad. Honestly, I felt sorry for her. She was looking to get married, and become a mother, and she had NO IDEA how to adult. it would be a really harsh realization, when it hit her that SHE is the mother now, and SHE is responsible for the children, and taking care of them and their needs. Also, she was not likely to be able to afford to hire a maid, either. She wasn't taking a multi-millionaire.

The only horror story I've read that comes close to that last one was from a year or two ago, in which That Guy turned out to be the player's boss, and all of a sudden job security seemed to depend on the campaign continuing and there being a place in it for That Guy.

The Worst Roommate is a crappy story, but unfortunately not one I'm unfamiliar with. I've met people like that before, who are borderline functional at best, rely heavily on friends and family to get by, but feel no obligation to be kind or considerate in response. Like many other forms of abuse, it's all about control, and what clearly made them mad wasn't the various concessions they were being asked to make, but the simple idea that they had to make concessions at all.

I’m autistic, and the idea of running a DND game for kids like me sounds fun! I would’ve LOVED that as a kid.

Ive played a "frozen for centuries," charactet before (well, preserved in amber). And holy shit... i mightve had a few moments of "whats this?" but i knew it would be fundamentally frustrating to not know ANYTHING. Plenty of things have existed for thousands of years, and would at least be recognizable as a more modern version. Fuck...

I kinda want to play a "frozen for centuries" kind of character tbh, it's a really fun idea that usually doesn't get explored super well in media like The Last Airbender. Like, yeah, Aang was frozen for a century, but the only real times its referenced is Bumi, Gyatso, and "Flameyo, Hotman!" and it had SO much missing potential.

For the last story, I hope OP looks into what legal actions they can take against the roommate.

Establish dominance?? Nope. Just nope. Roommates from hell do exist. I had one early in life, but wasn't gaming then. One of my DMs had one that pulled some of the same crap as in the story here. Main character syndrome always sucks. Having seen it destroy group dynamics, I try really hard not to act that way. Thanks for the stories, Crispy, and keep reminding us.. it could always be better, but it could always be worse.

I love the idea of an ice wizard thawing out. That's pretty cool. I think they should get a resistance to ice... but also have a fear of ice, because they were frozen. So have like... take less damage from ice, but lose some stats to represent the fear. A cool trade-off!

On top of all the other terrible shit that abusive roommate was doing, the phrase "chronically vomiting cats" tells me she must also be at least neglecting her poor defenseless pets. Cats don't normally just vomit, let alone regularly. I hope they too got rescued from that situation...

OP here, giving out updates now that I'm finally able to move out. Yeah the cats are definitely not right. For being pre-vet, she really doesn't care that they vomit a lot. They're her late grandmother's cats, so there isn't much I can do. I made sure they were as comfortable as possible where I could.

So glad that last DM feels safe for now. GOOD LUCK getting out of that living situation!!

I love it how the person who was making the op race was talking about some Logan, assumedly his DM, about how he needs to eat it. I would love to be a fly on the wall when his DM just says he can't play that race. If the DM was extra petty, he could tell that guy to eat it when he shot it down too.

Honestly the "Immune to everything God" race made me crack up. I'm like 90% sure that's a parody.

Yeah, lgbt-friendly settings are top priority for me in games and stories. I'm cis, yes, but I'm bi, and I enjoy playing lgbt characters. I've played and written characters of multiple genders and sexualities, so bigotry is a quick way to get me to nope the hell out of something. Now, I will say bigotry in-character is a different beast; but that's one that I really have to be in the mood to deal with and be able to have some flexibility as far as actually being able to play the character. An unwinnable system of bigotry is no fun for anyone, but a system in which you can be the rebel who can stick it to "the man", even if you don't have any long-term success against the dystopian common or ruling class? Well, that's a lot more playable, depending on how it's run. And then there's this idiot, who wasn't even in the same campaign as the character in question...and somehow it's all the player's fault for creating such a character in the first place and therefore causing drama? This is victim blaming, pure and simple. True, there was no SA here, but it's the same principle in this case. Why can't people just let people be people and play characters they like? Yeesh.

Hope OP from the last story is ok, judging from the time this video was posted they might still have one month to go, hopefully it all goes by smoothly and they can get out of that situation safely.

20:07 My first college roommate was this rich Chinese-American girl with a doctor father and a stay-at-home mother who was like that, wouldn't clean and would make her mom do it when her parents visited ever 2-3 weeks. One time, I was very ill and had to beg her to turn off the main room light and use her desk light instead and she couldn't fathom calling her mom to wish her good night before 11pm so she wouldn't be keeping my ill self up late by being loud. She eventually started doing the calls with her mom in the dorm lobby, which is the most mindful thing she did as a roommate. I eventually got the RD change rooms half way through the year after the second time she swore and screamed at me for politely asking her to quiet down as it was mandatory 24-hour quiet hours for exams (first was midterm exams quiet hour, second was during final exams quiet hours).

When she gave the long speech about how powerful she was, and how her cold damage did cold damage to creatures resistant or even immune to it, I would have let her have her moment, and then said, "Make a Deception check." With a DC of 45 (or whatever it has to be so that ONLY a Nat 20 would succeed). I'd then let everyone who heard her make an insight check, "to see if you believe her bragging." And if they believe her bragging, it still doesn't mean that immune is not immune. It just means that she managed to convince someone that she's more powerful than she actually is. ALSO, I would have told her afterwards that she was out of line.

If someone csme out of nowhere to yell at me, then blocked me, then the GM said repeatedly said to apologise to them, i'd very rapidly be becoming snarkier when telling "hm hm, yup! still blocked! How about you tell them to unblock me? No? Then shove it" i would not have stuck around for weeks waiting for the nuclear blast as gm stays true to his word.

Dominance story: Good on the DM for not putting up with an unrepentant player who caused nothing but problems. The problem player sounds like they would have turned into a murder hobo who would have ruined the campaign for everyone. The GM story: Yea, OP is fine since they upheld their dignity and self-respect as a person. Everyone else in the 3-man group just sucks. OP is better off without them and the DM's manipulative crap. Find people who jive with you. Roommate story: *sighs* I figured it'd be a That Guy just from the intro but holy heck. This is a That Guy on "substances". I get the entire fallout that could have happened by kicking the roommate, but jeez, this goes beyond hurting the fun of other players. The fact they even tried a "cast fireball" thing as a tantrum because the spotlight wasn't on them should have been a "kick moment" on its own, like in the Dominance story. Again though, the concept of "angry roommate + bills = OP paying everything" can wrangle a normally good DM into being passive. There is so much to say on this kind of behavior but damn, would this get long. EDIT: OK, got to the end where the roommate's escalating behavior turned toxic. Holy crap. That is a "move out or get them kicked out ASAP" moment for me. EDIT 2: The fact that OP reiterated several times they're safe and will be leaving their nasty roommate behind when the lease is up put a smile on my face. I'm glad to hear they're getting out of such a terrible living situation. If they happen to read this, I wish them all the good luck they can handle and nothing but the absolute best!

Ok I have a character that has a lot of secrets, but the DM is informed on at least most of them. Only some small RP that might happen later based on my character, but those are very small things that don't have a big result on the campaign.

Yeah, secrets from the party are great, but the DM NEEDS to be in on the character secrets or else one of two things will happen: 1) You'll never be faced with a situation where they even come up, or 2) You'll be faced with pretty compelling evidence against the secret, making it impossible to play. If you want to have the "interesting backstory," you need to get the DM on board, so they can incorporate the backstory into the game.

The violin part got me good, i had something else in mind. If you think its weird its because I'm French and it feels odd seing this word and Krispy saying cool.

I think I've watched this video like 3 or 4 times, and this is the 1st time I realized that the intro story was a D and D beyond home brew lol. (Normally listen while driving, so didn't see what was on screen, and somehow just missed Crispy explaining where he found it) That had to be someone just trolling.

The first first is awesome if it had one caveat, that was so common itd make the feat inconvenient. Like literally melting in rain or smth so common becoming life threatening.

For that last story, I would only give a player cold resistance if they were willing to take 50% more damage from fire. I had a homebrew ice genasi storm herald barbarian that played by those rules on a Westmarch server. She was fun and felt powerful while remaining balanced.

A few things. The queerphobia story? Those people are not the OPs friends. To say "make up with the guy who attacked you for doing something that makes you happy somewhere or take everyone's toys away and it'll be your fault." Is. Insane. Good riddens throw them away. I'm glad they found a new game. And just like. In general I am endless confused by people just?? Refusing?? To tell their gm stuff?? I'm my groups we tell our gms Everything. All the time. Because the more they know about what we're doing and want to go with our characters the more they have to work with to surprise us with fun things or work with us to do cool sets ups and narrative advancements. It's very odd to me. Lastly the gm with the room mate handled that situation, I think, about as well as they could. I hope they are okay. Good on them as a gm for trying to wrangle in a problem player and good on their friends for being a support system. I hope their next situation is better.

That first story- yeah that dude trying to “assert his dominance” was not only an asshole, but stupid as well. I mean, EVERYONE knows that in a DnD party the only surefire way to establish dominance is by waiting until the party is asleep then taking a shit in everyone else’s backpack.

Not DnD but I had a That Guy with a genetically modified male character (in a team) that was always stronger and faster than anyone and could only be defeated by other characters that he had control of/made up. My character's (A lightning wielding time witch that was my very own OC) first encounter was getting beaten to within an inch of her life by his characters. I had a moment much later in the campaign I was far stronger in magic and defence and was allowed a final gambit spell that if I was god moded by someone else again I could activate it upon KO or death. That Guy did it again and I activated a spell bringing in an overpowered Demon to smite him. He backpeddalled immediately to keep his PvP defeat streak clean and the game master allowed it. The group finally broke up due to real life and years later I decided to revisit the old site to reminisce of the old days of written Rp. To my horror That Guys character suddenly knew all my character's spells and was suddenly the voice of reason...and it was spoiled by using replace word editing with Kool-Aid Man. I guess he really didn't like me despite me just being there with a character that could have been "That Girl" but she never used her fully potential as we all had almost god-like characters ( theirs based on Saiyans and other Anime based characters) We all had a chance to GM each month or so but I guess I just wasn't liked now I look back on it. All they had to do was tell me and I would have left. Yes I would've been sore but seeing this years later actually hurts me more. No wonder I have trust issues. Lol

First story with the alpha putz is SUPER nta because, unlike a lot of other DMs, he nipped that shit in the bud right away instead of putting his other players through another session with that guy.

Intro makes me question the site not cleaning up a homebrew class that is just venting at someone without context. 1st story is definitely a murderhobo but am curious about the white savior part. Feels rare in tabletop horror stories. 2nd story was more than I expected based on comments. I only heard GM picked A@@&[)÷ over OP so leaving was easier, not demands to hunt him down to apologize or everything GM runs would be cancelled. Hopefully both of those scum (and naybe Late) never play games without them suffering and are forever alone until they improve. 3rd story gives me the same vibes as that story about the scumpile who defended bullying and assault by claiming to be a transphobia victim. Would like to see the bad roommate get cutoff from everyone and left to rot alone.

I mean balance it with opposing elemental affinities... Cold resistance for free? Sure but you're also vulnerable to fire.
