Yes.. Exactly.. happens to me all the time! Glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I think it's because I'm so used to watching lectures/movies/videos which could be rewound, that I kinda lost my ability to focus on conversations happening real-time, and automatically my brain goes, "it's ok! rewind and watch it later!" Except, there's no rewind button irl. Oh the misery.

I'm a bit better about it now, but I used to do this CONSTANTLY. It was rather a problem. 😅 This is why I love text-based communication: when I inevitably don't realize I wasn't paying attention or forget what was just said 2 seconds ago, I can just scroll up and reread! 😂

Had a moment like this back in school, use to laugh at every attempt at a joke until i realized half the shit aint funny, so next time someone made a joke to me i just stared at them while they waited for me to laugh, greatest moment of my life

That triggers the fuck out of my anxiety just 30 seconds in, lmao. This is actually why I stop people and ask question instantly, I'd rather look stupid and be socially anxious now with a question, rather than let my internal anxiety skyrocket as I try to "keep along" with the conversation that I've lost track of. Not only do you suffer far less anxiety, but people also usually love being asked questions or clarifications as it indicates you actually are making an effort to listen and not just hear, so even if being agreeable is your one and only worry, its better to interrupt! I can't go back. The awkward anxiety showcased in this video is an unbearable experience and is pointless suffering.

Problem is once you nod you can’t go back and redact. You have to commit and do everything you can to avoid requiring to provide detailed information about the thing you claim to be familiar with

This reminds me of the first time I met my neighbors. They were a couple and the wife said something to me and I didn't hear it, so I responded with "Oh, no worries!" We talked a little bit more and I swear she asked the same question again at the end, where I panicked and responded with "Oh! No worries!" with an awkward laugh. I felt like they caught onto that one and it still haunts me to this day.
