Thanks to a stubborn roadside assistance insurance company, I was unable to help a guy who needed an off road recovery after getting stuck out in the desert. I tried to find him but was unable to do so, and ended up checking out a hidden cave from an old lava tube on the way back

Well said on the road clubs. Another thing. If the road club wants you to pay upfront, call around to the tow companies close to you. You will probably save money. One road club wanted to pay us $35.00 and charged the customer $250.00. Our bill was $75.00 at the time. A lot of companies charge more to private customers because the road clubs pay so bad. Also another thing right now, Fuel Deliveries. Most road clubs reimburse companies the national average per gallon. So right now with what we pay for fuel we lose over $1.00 per gallon. In California is 2 or 3 dollars per gallon loss. We pick and choose what calls we do now. If it doesn't make money we won't do it. It does make it hard on customers but we can't help if there is no money for fuel, insurance, wages and shop rent. Not to mention the cost of equipment. New wreckers similar to Casey's old one are going new for $125,000+. Decent used ones are going for anywhere from 30 to 50 thousand. Thank you for sharing your experience Casey. I hope you have a great 4th.

Hi Casey - A word of caution on moving the seat back like that. Your weight is now cantilevered back and that can cause the front floor pan mounting area to crack and fail. I'm 6'5"; ask me how I know. I reinforced the floor pan with metal and additional fasteners and a few years later all is well.

That is sad. Insurance companies are more worried about making a dollar than someone's health and well being being stuck in extreme heat. That puts someone's life in danger. And I understand it's frustrating for you when you want to go take care of someone and the red tape people say no. We need more people like you in this world.

Casey, I live in Clackamas county. One of my favorite things about your videos is how much your love for our state comes through in them. I also like your your "walk and talk" or "work and talk" style segments. I'm absolutely certain many of your viewers would love to see the many cool geological features in your area. Caves are always cool but also I'm sure people would really appreciate seeing the amazing view from the top of Paulina Peak and maybe a little walk through that cool obsidian flow just below it. I feel like you have done a couple of recovery videos out by the lava cast forrest but I don't recall you showing us any of the casts. If you are ever in the area of the Metolius springs or up by Smith Rock State Park it we be cool to show people those places as well. Keep up the the great videos. I enjoy your content very much.

I was on the other end of a situation like this. About ten years ago I had a Class C motorhome towing a Honda Fit with all my windsurfing stuff as a retiree from the East Coast and I picked up a bolt on my right front tire while driving on Interstate 5. After calling Good Sam's I waited several hours in the breakdown lane of a busy highway for them to find a shop to come fix my flat. I was super pissed. Maybe, back in the day this kind of service made sense, but with the world wide web at my fingertips, I found a shop nearby who was happy to come and help. They swapped my spare and plugged the flat for a reasonable price. I dumped the roadside service with some strong words for the poor lady on the other end of the phone and never looked back. Dumped AAA too. Later when we stopped at a lovely campground east of Waldport I found a local tire shop who properly repaired the tire and we went on our merry way. A similar thing happened while we were camping in White Salmon, WA, we had a slow leak found and a nice shop in Hood River who took good care of us . The internet is our friend. Roadside assistant services sure aren't!

Four hours and I called my agent and said I will call a tow company and pay them and you will reimburse me. She agreed 20 minutes later we are in the cab of the tow truck and he is telling us this third party nightmare. It is crazy.

After packing up and pulling onto the road, my folks would stop, hand all of us a garbage bag and send us back to clean our campsite as well as any others nearby that needed it.

As a fellow Oregonian, resident of Roseburg, I’ve adventured much of this state and it’s many different types of environments, caves always seem to be the most exciting apart from high mountain views. Been to many places that most people are unaware of around the state and like to keep them off of social media due to what has happened in the Columbia river gorge trails and here in Douglas county, the Umpqua hot springs. They have been destroyed from off trail hikers and littered with trash. It’s sad but the worst part is that they get closed off from well intentioned people. I would enjoy seeing some cool adventure stuff along with the recoveries but would recommend keeping the names of places discreet. Just my .02. Cheers!

As an auto body shop owner I totally understand not devaluing one own industry. Big shops that ‘save your deductible’ and get in insurer “partner” programs are giving such backend discounts & kickbacks that it bad for the industry as a whole. This DRP(direct repair program) shops are making up that loss somewhere. I love doing post repair inspections. Whether a small local shop or the big corporate MSO(multi shop operator, like service king, Abra, gerber) I have no problem calling them out on a PRI on improper repairs that should have never happened. Shops can end up buying cars back, paying another shop to do the repair or redoing the repair. I’m not talking about a few nibs in the paint or some halo’s in the buff job, I’m talking about safety related things. Collision repair isn’t the same w ADAS and so many composite materials. Now we are called parts replacers but there is a darn good reason not to repair certain things anymore.

I’m happy to say that my auto insurance company(USAA) towing coverage went the extra miles to locate a towing company to take my 9,000 lb. extended Ford Transit back to the dealership after a fuel line broke. It took 3 tries to get a tow truck large enough to pick up my van at no cost to me. It’s unfortunate that insurance and other businesses that offer towing coverage are too cheap and fail to pay for the towing service when needed.

that happened to me a few years ago. they left me stranded on the side of the road had to have my wife come get me and bring parts out the next day and fix it my self in the dirt to get it home. Never buy the roadside assistance

Love seeing these natural phenomena, Casey. Very different to where I live in Scotland. Great work on the cleanups too. Top man!

That Hidden Forrest. Always wanted to go down into Arnold, seen some amazing pictures. Apparently they harvested the ice there for town back in the day. The building Jacksons Corner occupies was the old ice house.
