    As a passionately patriotic Englishman, much as I want to dislike our opponents sometimes, the humility and respect these blokes show in this interview generates nothing but my total respect. And there's no question, Ireland are pure class at the moment, running like a well oiled machine, and seeing as I can't honestly see England challenging for the WC this year barring a miracle, I'll be willing Ireland on to win it as they deserve it for their consistent form over the past few years.

    This Ireland team has captured the hearts of casual fans around the world. More importantly they have gotten the attention of those who were never interested in Rugby. Mack also helps with that being a somewhat Happy Gilmore character/footballer of the 90's who never missed a pub meeting/Time travelling 70's star with those handlebars that will forever be etched in not just Rugby history but the history of professional Sport. You could terraform planets with the buzz they are causing.

    No team goes on winning forever. They habe to lose sometime. Winning a triple crown , championship,grand slam most points in 6 nations history is probably only second to a world cup win or beating new zealand south africa snd australia in their home. They are also setti g records for longest stint at wotld number one for a northern hemisphere team. Their mindset after today needs to be the same for the World Cup. They need to maybe lose one and then win five in a row or just win six in a row to win the World cup.

    I don’t know how these players can remain so patient with these idiotic questions. Are there no rugby journalists left in the world? Perhaps someone who played the game once in their lives? It’s no wonder the lads look so bemused, and start giving each other those “WTF?” looks.

    I think you are right about a good few... they are kind of empty ... dead end questions. But having said that... I think these players do very well at elaborating and respectfully answering as well as possible in spite of that. Paradoxically we may have accidentally got a broader discussion and relaxed paced, more enjoyable and informative story from the boys... rather that a situation than if the room was full of sharp fast shooting reporters that might dictate a faster pace and a different atmosphere. I think they filled in a lot of the gaps here, where maybe normally among many young sports players , they might be stumped for words. Still felt as you stated, but might have been just as well how it went anyway. The lads come across very interesting once it gets going.

  • @garywagner2466

    @garywagner2466

    @@The123mikeg, I agree that the players have obviously had some media training and provided interesting answers despite the banal questions. When left to their own storytelling, the players do a good job. They are professionals. But that still leaves the main question unanswered. Why are these so-called journalists’ questions so lame? Interviewing is their main role. They should know enough about the sport they are covering to pose insightful, open-ended questions. Too often they make speeches, which we cannot hear because, apparently, they don’t know how to use a microphone or speak clearly enough to be understood. It’s painful.
