I was lucky enough to be in the tunnel in croke Park In 2009 after beating England.. Paul was the first out of the dressing room heading to the bus . I asked him for a picture 📸. He said I'll be back in 1 minute I've to go to the bus .. I taught fair enough he's not in the mood . So I got other pictures. BUT then about 15 minutes later the man the legend he is came back looking for me . ! Saying where is that chap that was looking for a photo 📸 he was Apologising saying one of the coaches stopped him to talk about a game I said don't worry it's OK he said no I'm very sorry and he was worried I'd gone already .. what a man ☘️🇮🇪☘️

I met him once, we had a rake of pints. We drank all day, he passed out but after he woke up and we had a few more pints and a curry I challenged him to arm wrestle which I surprisingly won easy,, then I woke up and immediately wrote him a letter of apology.

I was driving out of Dublin a couple of years ago and pulled out in front of this land cruiser. Looked in the rear view and the it was O’Connell and he was going nuts in the car. He was slapping the wheel and fecking and blinding while I lip read. i thought I had kissed him off cus I stopped for an orange light. I was shitting it. Then I realised he was on the phone. Should have rolled the window down and said hello but he looked very kissed off. I thought wrong moment.

"Craic" merchants are always so predictable. The protective Irish mammy, the local gaa nut, the begrudging neighbour.......

I think that to make a long story short. O Connell was and is intense all of the time. Craic was not part of O Connells thing. He was great because he was intense.
