There have only been a handful of big bands that have had a bass player be so front and center and also known by everyone in the audience. Despite all that, Joe is still underrated and relatively unknown by the general populace which is a shame. He is a generational talent.

I should add for the record... This band doesn't rehearse. This is all improvisational, and live.
Joe isn’t ruthless with his solos like this anymore, I enjoy his new solos but these Jazz bass days were something else

Drummer is Theo Katzman, also an amazing singer, guitar player, songwriter. Absolutely phenomenal musician in everything he does. Check out some of his solo stuff, it’s a vibe.

@@Danielbignuts It's a little too midrange muted trumpet sounding like Jaco... missing some definition in the EQ. Maybe it's because it's a live setting.
Lmao Theo came in so clutch at precisely the correct moment on the drums to keep this legendary groove on time right as Joe transcended to levels of funk the audience couldn't yet comprehend. Right when the clap along was about to fall apart🤣

@@johnd5398According to Cory Wong at least, Vulfpeck doesn't rehearse and a lot of the show arrives spontaneously on stage. They've been playing together for years and they know eachother to a tee, so they can just vibe it out
I think if I were in the room for that drop at 2:00 I would make sure to die as soon as possible because it doesn't get any better than that.
One thing that’s not mentioned enough is Joe’s insane stamina in his hands. Playing lines like this at that tempo while digging hard with his right hand is a real treat to watch!
I love it when us bassists get the spotlight we deserve

Mind blowing solo? He is just repeating basic lines over and over in different tempo. Do some research about truly the masters in bass and you'll be mindblown. But I'm happy ppl discovered their taste for bass, but this is just beginner level to what the greatest has to offer. Happy discovering 😊

the fill @ 1:11 is life affirming. it awoke my uncle from a deep coma and got my sister off of a terrible drug addiction. the ways in which the 1:11 fill has changed my life cannot be overstated.

@@johnd5398 you obviously don't know how terrible automated transcription software is haha. Good luck getting anything worth anything out of this muddy phone recording with "automated software". George Collier has been doing this for a while and he's an insanely skilled transcriber.

What I love most is that you can give him any bass and somehow you can always tell it's the Dart. But with the Vulf, that's just one of a kind.
Whenever I see a video of Vulfpeck live, I am always amazed. Dart is a legend (and so are the others) I really hope they come to Europe again soon. It Gets Funkier er'y damn day~

The levels of funk in this clip are dangerously high. I nearly OD’d and my neck hurts from involuntary head bobbing.
Vulfpeck is a wicked good band. One of the greatest to actually play instruments EVER.

The audience did a way better job than in like 99% of these videos. They were only really off when the bassist abruptly increased the tempo and even then it was only for a beat or two. Which happened a lot, but it's hard to blame the audience for struggling to keep up with those shenanigans.
Soooo, my 17 year old daughter sent this to me. I'm so proud to have raised such a young lady with impeccable taste in music 🎶. This was FUNKILICIOUS!!! SO NASTY!! Loved it!!

I met with Cory Wong a while back when he was performing in Amsterdam. We chatted for so long we had to leave via the artist exit because the rest of the building was empty. What an incredibly nice guy!
I even like how Seinfeld it starts off (0:05) and then just becomes progressively funkier. It's like seeing a meme becoming a piece of art right in front of my eyes.

Just saw Vulfpeck live this weekend and they beat every other show in the weekend, Odesza, Kendrick Lamar, Paramore, none of them could beat Joe as the absolute dynamo of funk. They officiated a Jewish wedding mid-show, Cory Wong played with them the whole time, and the hour set felt like 10 minutes. Vulfpeck is unbeatable
theres alternate timelines that have no funk just for this to be a possibility in ours feel blessed we were chosen to witness something like this for m a n y did not

That drummer is Theo Katzman, who I consider one of the greatest living songwriters, a monumentally talented drummer and guitarist himself, and the fact that he's looking at Joe Dart like that says he lot.
