Of course. Without the Gauntlet Thanos is powerful but he is about the power level of any Eternals outthere whereas Odin is a God. He is essentialy a cosmic being that masters sorcery who is also one of the greatest warriors that ever lived having lived millenias having battles and fighting all matter of menaces and surviving and winning. He's the God of War for the Norse Gods. He feeds on strife. When he orders the Wild Hunt, it sends the Asgardians into a frenzy to destroy their opponants. Odin had most of the universe well the 9 realms in check. Hes the one that collected the power stones and scattered them because they were dangerous. He would last better than Thor, who gets dropped by Thanos and holds his own against Destroyer Odinsword Odin. And also remember Odin was holding back on him. Stories like this one is were epic. Marvel’s Universe and history is so rich. I absolutely love some of the old Journey into Mystery stuff. Their are powers and entities far beyond the scope super heroes behind the scenes. I would love to see stories involving what seldom seen Uber powerful forces for good and evil are doing. Beings like Odin, Zeus, Zuras, Dormammu, Shuma Gorath, ext.. It seems like Marvel has went the way of DC over the last number of years making the stories not only revolving around their hero’s but making them over powered. It is far more interesting and epic feeling when their are powers that seem to dwarf that of even Super powered beings. Instead Marvel has nerfed Galactus, Odin and others.

I like how literally no one read the comic, they just say things without thinking. It was LITERALLY A STAND STILL until Odin called the spear. No one pays attention to the fact that Odin says their power is similar and is constantly surprised about how strong Thanos is. Nope, you guys just assume Odin is stronger because he's a skyfather, but Thanos is literally on his level. Gungnir amps Odin, clearly, because he had the edge only because of it.

I have read that comic many times, and aside from the fact that the story's authors didn't use the old english (thou, thy) style of talking that the Norse gods typically used in the comics and the artwork itself being subpar, it is one of my favorite battles. if you look at the images, no it wasn't a stand still, from the moment Odin arrived on the battlefield, he held the upper hand. He took out Drax with one attack and the attacks from Thanos and the Silver Surfer barely staggered Odin while Odin's attacks, outside of his initial attack, was knocking Thanos around like a rag doll and took the Surfer out of the fight in one hit as well. do I think Odin could have beat Thanos without Gungnir? absolutely, It would have just taken much longer and may have ended up completely razing Asgard to the ground. by using Gungnir he intended to end the battle quickly.

"do I think Odin could have beat Thanos without Gungnir? absolutely, It would have just taken much longer and may have ended up completely razing Asgard to the ground." i agree, but thanos could've beaten him as well. again, they're equal, so it's 50/50, as far as destructive capacity goes. in hax odin is superior.

@@some1350 he's not above thanos, they're at the same level. the fight literally shows that. odin doesn't gain the advantage until he summons gungnir. they both no sell each other's attacks then press on each other more and push each other back, but overall, no damage is done and they're both still standing. then odin calls the spear to finish the fight quickly and begins to defeat thanos. the spear amps his power, which is why he had the edge. there's no proof odin was holding back, he literally says thanos and him have a similar energy reserve (implying they're on par) and is surprised that thanos hadn't died from his attacks. odin with gungnir > odin ~ thanos

This should go to show just how durable and strong Thanos is and not just when he’s written by Starlin. Odin is Odin and has BAMF feats to be sure but Thanos just stood toe to toe with the All-Father giving him a solid 80% power if not more and Thanos took it and gave it back. Not in a rage or out of his mind ruthlessness. And Thanos didn’t need or have the Infinity Gauntlet. I think Odin still would have beaten Thanos but damn that dude is 1 step below Odin in terms of strength and power.

@@keithbperrin9633 "clearly" you haven't looked at thanos enough. odin in warlock and infinity watch #25 was on par with thanos, nothing else. he only won because of the spear. there was no evidence of him holding back or anything, he kept saying he was surprised by how powerful thanos was. they were just on par; their attacks affected each other the same way, no one was injured and were both standing, until odin said "f*ck it" and called the spear to win. odin could probably beat thanos without the spear, but not with his power, just with his multitude of hax

If you read the complete, unedited comic, it is pretty clear Thanos is way out of his league. His durability kept him in the fight, but Odin was in no danger and was mainly just inconvenienced. Thanos lacked the offensive might to do any real harm to Odin.
