    Good advice for future soldiers but currently in Fort Benning they are not allowing Family day in both turning green and turning blue ceremonies due to COVID. Just some additional information I wanted to put out there. I just graduated OSUT from Alpha 1-50 on sand hill in Fort Benning.

    Keep in mind the shorter the AIT is usually the most strictest. 88 Mike's prior to 2012 when I went through used to be allowed to bring there xbox's they didn't allow us in our cycle. But we were allowed our cell phones I suggest talking to someone who has recently through AIT for your MOS. As well in AIT you are still considered TRADOC so you still have rules on stuff you can and cannot do outside of hours

    One of the tips I received when going to basic training was from my uncle, a WWII Navy vet. On his advice, I had my fatigue uniforms tailored, and you have to experience the difference in how you are treated when your uniforms fit. Stripes help, too, and come faster when the uniforms look good, and you look for work to do at work :)

    Basic hygiene items are preferred, if you can leave them unopened for reception you’ll be golden. If you have some good running shoes you could bring them, some company’s will allow personal running shoes, I know mine did. Other than that, you’ll get an allotted amount of money to buy required items from the military stores.

    I didnt study and I got a 61 which isn't the best. also your overall score isn't the only score that matters. There's a a sub score for each section that also plays a role in the jobs you're qualified for. A big one is the GT score which you'll want I think a 110 or higher if you wanted to, say become a Ranger.

    So Ik that this isn’t anywhere near video related, but I’ve got a question that I would be grateful for if veterans or 68Ws could answer it. Can Army Medics, when deployed and attached to a unit that could be in combat, engage in the enemy or only fight when attacked first, or can they not fight unless being specifically targeted with/without a patient? I’ve had this question for a while and can’t find any specific answers online, I’ve been looking into joint as a 68W when I graduate high school and I just wanted to know if I might be able to fight if I’m attached to a untied who sees combat. Also, thanks for the tips Matt!!

  • @MattWard89

    @MattWard89

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ok, so #1 your primary role as a medic is to SAVE lives not engage in combat. BUT if you have to engage in combat in order to effectively save yourself or a life because the situation requires it then yes you will engage. Otherwise, if you are with people whose job it is to fight back and you are able to care for the soldier then that is what you will do. You're the medic, so you won't be on the "front lines" fighting because that's not your job.

    Unless you box your stuff and ask someone to send it to you when you are at AIT. That is exactly what I planned to do before I saw this video. Also, I am excited to ship to Ft. Sill!

    Hey, Matt. I’m trying to physically prepare for basic training and get myself ready, but I have anxiety in my history and I thought I would get disqualified at MEPS. Is there a waiver? My recruiter says there’s options she wants to discuss with me so I’m curious

    Hey Matt, I agree it's good to pack light and don't bring a laptop, but the "don't bring anything to basic" advice is pretty out of date. I totally could have gotten away with bringing my army boots to basic that I had issued from RSP. They were the same model boot, but they were the right size and had better insoles. The drill sergeants would have never noticed or cared if I had brought them. Instead I got screwed by the civilians who gave me too small of a size. Also, there were a ton of toiletries, skin care products, sunscreen, etc I wished I had brought. At the end of the day, the drills didn't check for that kind of thing or care at all. Finally, the drills are not allowed to throw your personal items all over the floor. They still toss lockers to some extent, but they no longer mix everyone's stuff and make a huge mess.

    It depends on your drills, his advice is completely valid. I just got out of basic early November and I had a drill dump my body soap all over my OCPs and ASUs and screw up my locker. The company commander was also part of the inspection and (maybe) she didn’t see it, but she seemed unbothered

    No! But you don’t need any of that, at AIT you can go to the PX on weekends and buy everything you need. The px (exchange) is better than Walmart even. You can buy name brand clothing/fragrances/etc. Don’t bring anything with you!!

    For anybody wanting to join the Army: If you want to join, do not join right now. I’m currently in Fort Benning right now and it’s bad. The virus is spreading and people are being held here at 30th AG and Camp Kelly for 1-2 months then they get shipped out to Basic. I’ve been here for over a month and haven’t started Basic. Only reason why I have my phone is because I’m at Camp Kelly (they give you your phone).

    Just be careful, you're at the mercy of your ncos on whether you'll be able to use it, or even get it while you're there. Packages can arrive quickly, and then be stuck on base waiting go be sorted. Or you'll get lucky and get it right away. If your ait is like how mine was, you'll be pretty helpless to do anything about it.

    Start tracking your calories in vs what you expend in a day, then start slowly adding around 100-200 calories per day every few days to gain weight in a healthy way that’s also sustainable

  • @MattWard89

    Running form takes time to get your muscle memory down to where you don't have to think about it. But obviously you need to run and if you have crappy form FOCUS on your form instead of the speed of the run or how difficult it is. If you can have somebody record you running from the side and use your phones slow-mo camera that will help.
