I read most of these comments and noticed several mentions of Chinese D2 being crap, some mention that any Chinese blade is crap. Interesting since almost every decent to good quality knife under $70 and many under $100 are made in China. China definitely makes a ton of trash, but they also produce some of the finest products we use. Country of origin guarantees nothing. (Yes, it pains me to type this)

This is truly impressive for $15.00. I've got no problem with an assisted knife. I've heavily used an assisted Kershaw SS Volt since it was introduced many years ago (at least 12yrs) and it still works great.

I remember my first camp knife and it was a mossy oak full tang with a gut hook. Thought it was a great badass blade until I tried to stick it into a tree and the blade broke right in half. That's what started my journey on better fixed blades and now it's a straight up addiction. Have between 30-40 fixed blades from Buck to Esee to Mora to many others. Although I was pissed the blade broke in half I definitely learned a lot from that $20 knife. Can't say I'll ever buy another one branded Mossy Oak though.

According to the review this knife seems to be decent. But, when it comes to budget friendly D2 steel knives, I'd go with Ganzo all the time. Their D2 is proven to be real, and hardened properly to 59-60HRC. Even their 440C is okay, not as good as their D2, but okay.

My favorite folders are my Ontario Rat-1 and Rat-2, both in D2. I like assisted openings, it's a nice feature, but not necessary for me. I think of assisted opening as a bonus in a folding knife. I keep my OKC Rat-1 in my Helikon-Tex Raccoon Mk2 backpack and my OKC Rat-2 in my EDC belt, which, as a Batman fan, I call my utility belt. I hope to get more such OKC folders soon to have extras before they're gone and end up being auctioned for a seriously high price like many OKC fixed blades nowadays. The Rat-2 is in a pouch instead of my pocket, because it's a backup, my primary is Victorinox RangerGrip 78.

My favorite crossbar lock knife is the Real Steel Huginn, I'd love to see a review of that on this channel. Kind of the midway point between these knives and the Benchmade echelon, they retail for under $100 but have pretty high-end fit and finish. The Huginn is like a bigger sturdier bugout that doesn't break the bank. The black and gold version from KnifeCenter is a especially nice-looking, but all of the variants are pretty cool.

Check out the Crescent tools knife, CPK350A. 3 1/2 inch d2 blade, harpoon shape, ball berings in the pivot. Deep ride loop over clip with reseced screws. Aluminum handles linerlock flipper. It is heavy, but i like a solid beefy knife. It is on Amazon for 15 but i picked one up at Menards for 6.99. Icould not belive it, i thought it was a mistake, but that is what it rang up as. Good deal for a solid knife. I dont know who is making them but it looks like a civivi with that ct logo in the pivot.

That tells you how loose the heat treat is... d2 can fluctuate wildly with just 50 degrees F of temp difference in the ovens. 57 to 62 is likely possible considering they are heat treating prob 5000 blades at once and there could be 200 degree variations of temp difference in the oven. That could certainly create a +-2.5 Rockwell on a 59.5 targets.. ide be willing to bet that most would be in the 57-59 range but there is almost guaranteed to be some out there that are way harder. However hardness says only one part of heat treat quality... if every piece was 62hrc everyone would be so happy but if the micro structure is terrible due to the heat treat quality than that 62hrc d2 is gonna perform absolutely terrible. Remember Rockwell is only one part of the equation..
