    @@gottliebdee263 I guess what really sparked it was looking at Mayorga. That's just what I saw in his face. Then I noticed it in other hyper-cocky fighters as well. I think acting like that is partly an intimidation technique trying to get into the opponents head, and partly a way of dealing with fear, like a cornered animal bearing its teeth and getting its hackles up. Or a scared boy trying to bully those he perceives as weaker (until they prove otherwise). I've seen the same mentality at work in jail.

    ​@@joeshoe6184 Trouble you have with your theory is that some of the biggest, most successful fighters are just as, and sometimes more cocky. You've heard of one, Conor Anthony McGregor right? He's been defeated of course but even when he had a fight he was certain to win, (so no fear at all on his part), he was still just as cocky. It's part of their brand in some cases, which yes can have the effect of intimidation an opponent but really it's money and fame as the motivator.

I'm not referring to being confident or trash talking, Ali was supremely confident and could talk trash with the best of them.     Classic cases of over promising and underdelivering. In any situation, I'd much rather show up with quiet determination and a fire in my eye. If I fail, I still have the dignity of having done my best. If I win, others will sing my praises for me.

    The Salka thing wasn't that bad. I think he just wanted to prove he deserved to be there. He didn't, it was a gross mismatch, but still it's fairly typical of boxing. He's hardly on a par with the idiocy of Campbells or BigShot.
