@@pedrozajnr7475 it's good and healthy for kids movies to have moments of horror and depth, having safe outlets for your child to experience discomfort or get scared is incredibly important. Movies like Coraline, Monster House, Bridge to Terabithia are some of my favorite movies from when I was a kid. Hell even Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory had plenty moments of horror. It feels like most media made for children now are more made for infants, there's hardly any respect for their intelligence anymore. Of all movies that made the villain sympathetic at the end, this one is still one of the best I’ve seen. Taking something scary and pretty “out there” and escalating it to the point where that absurdity makes sense through the human story underneath is lovely. Then, leaning into the human side of things through natural-feeling dialogue without it belittling the audience or spoon feeding anything makes it such a warm conclusion. Great video! It's not based on real people, but rather children's imagination/exaggeration of real people. For example, in home alone the friendly old neighbour is described as a serial killer by the children simply because he keeps to himself and gives looks. In real life, people who live in these kinds of houses often have mental problems, but are not dangerous. The first scenes are clearly an over-exaggerated adaptation of children playing in someones backyard without asking first.

I had a mean old man at the end of my street a little over a decade ago when I was a little kid. No one knew why he was so mean, but he was the stereotypical "get off my lawn" old man. Childhood friend of mine crashed a mini 50cc pocket motorcycle thing in front of his house one time and he ended up on his driveway. The mean old man didn't leave his house entirely. but he was out on the front porch and literally said "get off my lawn" or "get off my land," something like that. I never realized it as a kid, but this video made me go back and think about it... People are not mean for no reason. There is always a reason why someone is grumpy. The dude's wife had cancer and died of it shortly thereafter, which resulted in him selling the house and the land. It must have been the life stressor that made him that way. I am 24, going on 25 years old and I am almost done with my military contract in the Air Force. When I got back from Turkiye and got to my new base back around the first week of January of 2024, I was extremely paranoid and angry with how my old command treated me and how my career was negatively affected. Never exactly realized it at first, but I still do retain a certain (and probably unhealthy level) of paranoia and anger... I have no doubt that those who live around me think I am an insufferable jerk... But they don't really understand where I came from. It took a while for the people in my current command to realize everything. Sometimes, having a level of understanding is extremely important. Little kids may never realize why there are grumpy old men on their block. Parents and guardians really should, if not must tell the kids why some people are the way they are. It is more productive than having kids spread rumors or "investigate" their neighbors, and it would be healthier for them overall. It will help kids realize that some people are just in a tough spot in life and they'll realize this sooner rather than later, as they will grow up and face hardship too.

This is why Lilith is buried under the red sea by 3 angels (triangle), she's part of the Anima or a component of the unconscious mind. The red sea is dipping below beta brainwave state into theta and delta, which allows you to travel back into the womb of creation, of which Lilith is the bridge to with Earth. ie the primordial maternal. Hope this helps.

The "semi-abandoned" or abandoned house in each neighborhood not just speaks to American urban decay but a certain span of time. As a child I moved in 1970 into a middle-class suburban development that was not even as old as I was. At 2 I remember looking out over a vast expanse of brown dirt dotted by half-completed homes and a black ribbon of pavement going through the middle. Within a year or so it would all be green lawns, fences and finished homes. But there was almost no previous human habitation there. Shortly before development it was all forest and not some tract of postwar saltbox housing. But this being Canada, we had "the woods" instead. At the end of that street, Westlake, was an undeveloped plot of land, thick trees and undergrowth. In the middle of this tiny patch of woods was the remnant of a grazing pasture from the 40's or 50's, now almost completely overgrown. I recall vague stories of an old farmer who once lived there, and a shack which I could never find. Teenagers partied in those Woods, of course. And there was a path winding through it that was a shortcut to school. My best friend lived at the end of this path at the far end of the woods so I got to know that path well. Funny thing, I don't think I ever explored the entire woods, even though they were maybe a block wide and 2-3 blocks long. (In fact, this parcel probably was all one overgrown paddock, undeveloped for a few decades as some kind of probate was settled.)

He's the single most realistic thing in the entire movie. He exists in a world in which the supernatural is real, but still uncommon enough not to be considered ordinary, and yet his behavior is honestly just ordinary human behavior. It's not hard at all to imagine a real person behaving as he does in his situation, and the fact that he's misunderstood because of it is the single most grounded, down to earth aspect, especially since he doesn't really seem to care. He's not a bleeding heart dying to be understood by the outside world like so many similar characters would be in fiction, he just wants the woman he loves to be freed from her curse so she can finally be at peace and uses the fact he's misunderstood as a tool to protect others along the way. The most obvious thing that he's going to get people thinking about is that other "old crazy people" in real life might be similarly misunderstood, but the reality is that it extends to a much wider range of people than just those who are elderly or seen as crazy. Our society is conditioned from childhood to make judgement calls on others with only the tiniest shred of information about them, and for good reason. As children we are particularly vulnerable and any random stranger could be a potential threat. Learning to judge others without knowing a lot about them is a crucial survival skill for us in these early years of our lives, but it turns into a bad habit as we grow older. Most people hardly even think about deeming a person to be crazy or moronic based on a single statement that they disagree with, and it's not unusual for people to get very rude about it. This is the internet, so most people here have probably had plenty of experiences with people online replying to them rudely and harshly over a simple disagreement. This happens less in person, but it's still hard to avoid entirely. Just like the old man in the film however, most of us don't really consider ourselves victims of these types of petty disagreements and misunderstandings. Life goes on as normal. It might make us upset or angry for a few minutes, but we get over it and it gets forgotten entirely before long. The reality of the situation is almost everyone is misunderstood by the people around them, and most of us aren't really bothered by it. If anything, the majority of us take comfort in the fact that only those who are closest to us truly know and understand us. It's a big part of personal privacy. Real life isn't like a Disney movie where expressing yourself to the world is everything. Disconnecting yourself emotionally from the thoughts and opinions of most others is another crucial skill we are tasked with learning growing up.

At 4:13, if you pay very close attention to the house's right window, you can see the shade quickly close. This very subtle detail is nice, but I feel like it was a huge missed opportunity for minute foreshadowing. Remember, at this point in the movie, we don't know the house is alive, much less not haunted by _him._ One window shade closing quickly in a "blink and you'll miss it" fashion gives the impression that he was watching DJ's parents leave, but closed the shade when they glanced over. Now, if they had featured BOTH shades closing, that would've added a FANTASTIC foreshadowing, as well as an even more unsettling element for the subconscious. Nebbercracker lives alone, something the movie goes on to explain indirectly. He wouldn't be able to close both window shades at once (and even if he had a housemate, it'd be very difficult to perfectly syncronize the reactive action). The moment when DJ's parents leave relies on real-world fear, that of a child being without their parents while feeling threatened in their own home. Nowhere to go, and your protectors are leaving you without listening to your pleas. Having _both_ peaking shades quickly twitch closed at this point in the movie would be subtle enough to avoid ruining "real world fear", while also enhancing the sense of anxiety being portrayed in DJ. It may even drive home viewers to rewind, attempting to catch the rapid movement again, only to slowly pick up on the fact that it shouldn't have been possible. There's something not right about that house, a sensation which countless kids have felt regarding that old, dilapidated house near the end of the road. This potential subtle hint that the house was _always_ haunted, long before Nebbercracker's heart attack would be the epitome of "a little goes a long way."

I loved this movie as a kid but I don't know how you didn't mention the scene at 9:00 where DJ falls on top of the entombed corpse of Nebbercracker's wife. That scene was terrifying as a kid. I think it even uses DJ's pov like you were talking about making it that much more immersive. He gets right up in there and the concrete "statue" collapses and reveals her skeleton inside. Absolutely horrifying for a kid. Great video though I never noticed the lack of time skips in the beginning.

Dude it was the opening sequence that terrified me as a little kid. “Do you want to be eaten alive?” Gave me chills as a kid. Monster House was pretty much my first introduction to horror. I even watched this film before Coraline or Paranorman, which didn’t scare me as much as this movie did. I absolutely love the film now but when I was a little kid watching this on DVD I was fucking horrified. But I remember loving to watch the building to the movie on the DVD, one of the menu options were one that talked about the making of the movie. The creators and actors of the movie clearly enjoyed to make this film which makes it better to watch.

this movie is a true depiction that the crazier the neighbor, the greater the trauma theyve faced, the more pain theyve endured. it takes to go through something big to be that way. I remember when nevercracker cried it got to me badly. to see this man whom i thought was an evil insane villain, cry on his knees for the woman he loved just showed us how not bad he was at all. i feel like they would have never sold that idea of "his actually protecting the kids" had they not shown him extremely emotional

That on it's own freaked me out, and when he came outside with a growling voice, I ran out of the room. I was at my grandma's house when this happened, and going into the living room with the larger TV made me want to watch something, but I didn't want to turn it on in case the old man was still there. It was a stupid moment and kinda funny in retrospect, but proves the point you speak about here. Monster House: Highly underrated.
