Wheel of Time Review - Amazon BURNS The Books! Season 2 Episode 1

Ойын-сауық

Wheel of Time Review for Season 2 Episode 1 released on Amazon Prime Video. This is a live action adaptation of the Wheel of Time book series written by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. However as the story has nothing to do with the books, the characters are different and the people in the story have changed. How much of an adaptation this is, is questionable. But as Amazon have spent more money on Wheel of Time season 2 than season 1. Is Wheel of Time worth watching?

Wheel of Time Review of Season 2 Episode 1, Amazon learnt nothing between the series and have doubled down on all the old problems. There are more people on set, but we just forget major plot points, steal great lines from characters we deleted and focused on Moiraine for no reason. We even have Aes Sedai taking the mick out of Lan saying he should be quiet and doesn't have any problems. Despite the fact his Aes Sedai Bond has been severed and they should know this is a bit of a problem! It's a packed week and these Wheel of Time reviews take longer than most, but they're all on their way. But what did you think? Let me know your thoughts down below, and as always, thanks for watching :)

Well aside from my theory they are in a mirror world, explains everything, apparently this is a mirror world where they wait too long to seal the dark one and the seal doesnt work right, and he is able to mess with the world too much. Maybe they built the choden kal and used the choden kal to destroy the shadow sworn instead of sealing the dark one when Lews Therin wanted to, and the consequence was too much of the dark one escaped before the men did a secret sealing that failed.

Dude, you're the only reason I'm paying any attention to this show. I too am a massive fan of the books. I grew up reading them in the nineties and I remember when we lost RJ and how massively awesome it was that we still got our story finished with Sanderson and Harriet. The way they've done my boys and my girls in this show is insufferable; and it is so ironic, because as a young man I read this series and it really helped me expand my idea of hero to heroine through the incredibly crucial actions that the female protags accomplish. They don't see that the story of empowerment they want to tell in a mean-spirited fashion was *already* told in a way that showcases both men and women's strengths and weaknesses and how only united can truly great wonders be accomplished.

@@maniravsadhur8409 Also, if THAT is the standard people are pushing to accept the show... it's a REALLY bad sign. "This thing you love? Well, we're going to adapt it!" Awesome! "We've chosen to condense things and focus on our own themes, inserting entirely new plots and characters despite complaining that the books have too many characters and plots to tell!" Weird flex, but maybe it'll be fine. The Expanse managed to make an iconic character a bigger focus by essentially combining other characters into her arch. "You shouldn't judge the show by the books, just consider it another turning of the wheel!" Sounds like you're making excuses now. Why make WoT if you're not making WoT? "If you don't try to make comparisons to the books at all, the show is watchable, but it's at best low-mid" Making a low-mid show from one of the most compelling book series of all time is a fucking accomplishment. I've seen so many creators DESPERATELY trying to give the show a chance, to highlight the positives... and yet the universal agreement seems to be "this isn't the wheel of time" Rafe should never be trusted with an adaptation or even a pre-established IP ever again. He's demonstrated that he can not be respectful of the source material or even honest in his approach. The man openly mocked fans and said he'd make decisions just to piss them off. Even if he was joking... that's not a good look.

Making Nynaeve a strong warrior who can weild a sword just as well as the One Power is such an amateur writing mistake. Characters need to have different strengths and weaknesses for an audience to be able identify and relate to them. Baselining every female character as strong physically, smart, confident, desirable, etc, is guaranteed to fail. Because there is nothing to differentiate Moiraine from Nynaeve from Egwene from Siuan or any other female lead. With characterization this bad, it's baffling that so-called professional writers are involved in this project.

Amazon's Wheel of Time is an abomination. So many things have been fundamentally changed that it proves once again that the writers of this show never actually read the books. If you have never read these books, DON"T watch this show. Pick up "The Eye of the World" and discover the greatest epic fantasy series of all time. The first book is a gentle introduction to the world, with many elements/tropes that you will recognize from other series. The second book "The Great Hunt" will hook you and reel you in. You will curse me later when you become absorbed by this story and realize there are 14 books. (15 if you include "A New Spring") The world building is simply amazing. The disgusting thing about the TV show is that the woke show runners simply squandered the opportunity to create the greatest epic fantasy TV series of all time. All they had to do was follow the books, it was all right there.......

Obviously quite a bit of material would have been cut, but there are actually good and reasonable ways to cut material without ruining the characters and plot.

Why alot of writers now think that showing no care for the previously established lore and changing thinhs up for no reason other than changing things (at least that what it feels like) is showing respect whilst it alienates the very fan based that would watch / read the thing is beyond me.

Wait I forgot they severed Moiraine at the end of season 1. That fucks up so many storylines because once severed she would lose her bond to Lan. Who in the book gets his bond passed to another aes sedai after a certain event involving a certain female forsaken. This means that Lan is never compelled to search out the new holder of his bond. That the rebel Amyrlin would never send Lan to protect a certain character he loves. If Lan is not sent then that character dies the weather is never fixed and the male half is never cleansed. Hell if that character dies then Rand never wins his fight against the Dark One in the last book.

@@paulkelly2701 Stilling can be done one person. Rand in facts stills several Aes Sedai within a split second at the Battle at Dumai's Well. The 13 channelers is to turn someone who channels to the Dark against their will. The maximum females that can link is 13 and is the number used to shield a male channeler. So, Ishamael most definitely could have severed Moiraine but in terms of story it fucks up a lot of things.

  • @haku8135

@@metisgamer Yeah, SHIELDING a strong channeler takes usually multiple people linked together, and you require women to form a link. So they obviously use it to restrain male channelers. Gentling or stilling can be fought against as well, and there's other reasons they don't do it on the spot, mostly what is basically due process. Regardless it IS most certainly possible for a single person to sever another person. Rand stilling those women was an exceptional circumstance, it involved screwing with their Weaves in a particular way. Even Rand couldn't just manhandle so many Aes Sedai so easily. Which is exactly how they caught him, granted they needed surprise and trickery because since he's REALLY bloody powerful if he fights back, it WILL be quite messy. And boy was it, just not immediately. Of course in terms of the Forsaken, at least in Eye of The World, they may as well just kill people. They don't still Moiraine or Nyneve or anyone because they're just planning to kill them anyway, and their powers are like children shooting nerf darts in comparison. Ishamael couldn't just snip RAND, and he's the real threat here, and he lost the fight. Moiraine being stilled fucks the story beyond repair. There is NO way to fix this without fucking the story even MORE.

They have to act like men. And the books had distinctive races, but the series just throws them all together to act like white people. So congrats to the series for figuring out how to fix all inequities: destroy women by making them all men, and destroy race by making everyone white. So progressive.

This caused him to go cuckoo for cocoa puffs, but also led to Shadar Logoth, Artur Hawking's hatred of Aes Sedai, and the Trolloc Wars. What I find fascinating is that there weren't just 13 Forsaken. So either they are mushing her character together with even more other characters, or they REALLY want to introduce the True Power. Or even worse, they could try to insinuate that that's how men use the power and use that to plug the plot hole they created in the S1 finale with Ishamael teaching Rand to channel how a woman would. This is so incredibly disappointing. I've wanted a WoT show for decades but they've completely desecrated the parts I wanted to see from the first book and I'm now praying they don't make it far enough to get to the parts I most want to see in live action. What I most wanted was to the Black Tower, to see the men going about their every mundane task by using the power. Next to that was Elayne and Rand in the palace after they first meet, which they might actually get to but I hope not. And finally Perrin and the wolves which they've already screwed up. There's so much more but even my memory of the books is being replaced by my hatred of this show. They were such an important part of my teenage years and this show is basically pissing on me personally by releasing this cancerous tumor they call an adaptation. This is why culture is so important, and why these political activists care so much about controlling it. It forms an important foundation in people's lives, and if they can control the culture that creates the next generation then they get to decide how they'll think.

Well, that isn't on offer for seasons yet. I was going to settle for seeing the almost-worlds, seeing the Seanchan as brutal but not hysterically evil people and having the girls go through a real emotional wringer to maybe grow them up as they need. That was the point of this season. Looks like everything is going to be inside out, upside down, back to front and bad for good. I'd say Rafe's proclivities also cause him to write perverted material.

Nynaeve doesn't have a block to protect herself from burning out, she's a wilder and survived the first channel (the danger for them is the 'hangover' from the first channel that is basically a coin toss whether they live or not). She has a block because she is a control freak and borderline pathological about letting go of that control, the whole "surrender to the power" makes her lock down whenever she tries, unless she's angry enough to not give a damn - in which case she almost approaches it like a male channeler -- it takes her basically dying to finally unlock it, she surrenders fully as she loses hope.

And Mat needed to use a QUARTERSTAFF, which was the ENTIRE point of the training bout. Who kicked general McAwesomewithasword's ass? A farmboy with a quarterstaff. It's a lesson in "doesn't matter how good you think you are, the farmboy's weapon is LONGER you idiot." Literally all she should be learning at this stage is, how to embrace the power consistently. How to not kill herself while using it. There's multiple instances in the book with she and Elaine as well just doing BORING ass exercises like waving a light around because that's all they're allowed to do. Anything more than that is too dangerous for a Novice at this stage. It's the Seanchan basically power leveling her, using their potentially greater knowledge of the power, and just generally not giving a shit how much they have to hurt her that ends up making Egwene as badass as she becomes. She finds strength in her suffering and USES it. It all just falls flat if they CHANGE that to just teach her a lesson on, what not biting off more than you can chew? Is THAT basic bitch what they're giving this wonderful arc the boot for? I'm even worried they'll NOT have her get enslaved at all because of their fucking girl power agenda. If that doesn't happen, there's NO justification for why Egwene develops as she does. She's just a BITCH without this motivation behind her newfound personality traits. Of course the wastes are also EXTREMELY vital to her character, but I'm guessing she'll go to the wastes so she can have a threesome with Rand and Avienda, with the girls in full control of course, cause Rafe loves his threesomes, but also is promoting girl power. Not knocking threesomes by any means, but time and place and all.

This series makes the Rings of Power look like it was penned by Tolkien himself! The writers of this show 1000% think The One Power is The Force I guarentee it.

In my utterly one-off opinion, WOT-TV, horrible as it is, actually rates as the least bad of the sci-fi fantasy IPs since Infinity War (Endgame was stupid and a harbinger). That makes is 2 1/2 stars out of 5 for me. Nothing else rates more than 1/2.

Amazon should build an AI Writer, feed it all the books from the IP that they purchased, and see if it can write a better show than the current writing staff. My money's on the AI

True, he is a help, but I am quite capable of eviscerating the series all on my own for my own readers. And I plan to. Credit where credit is due (how about that editing department, right?) but blame where it belongs. And I am very good at words.

"Rosamund Pike portrays Moiraine Damodred, the main character. She is joined by Barney Harris, Josha Stradowski, Daniel Henney, Madeleine Madden, Michael McElhatton, Zoe Robins, Marcus Rutherford, Barney Harris and Álvaro Morte." Just saw this on some review. The writer probably has zero clue about the series, but it is funny that they prove what we all see in that the series writers also know nothing about the books.

I just don't get why writers can't stick to the books - They are given a bloody blueprint for god sake and these egotistical writers want to put their own spin on someone else's story ! How would these writers feel if other writers started changing their stuff (which was already a best seller). They just don't get what the fans want ... Amazon once again destroying good stories with stupid writing , and inept leadership ...

I really don't understand how I can see so many posts from people saying that they've read the books AND love the TV series... just unbelievable.

It really took vast amount of skill to so thoroughly destroy such a great story. It is astounding how Amazon was able to collect all of the worst writers and actors into one series, well done! No way this makes it past season 4.

The first WoT book I read was actually The Dragon Reborn, so I initially liked Perrin. But I absolutely hated him by Winter's Heart. So, I tend to skip his chapters when I reread, now. Clearly, the people making this show hate the best characters and wish they could write them out entirely. I mean Rand and Mat, by the way.
