Wheel of Time Review Season 2 Episode 5, Where Rafe Judkins writes in new characters, blows up the ENTIRE BOOK LORE to the point the apocalypse is now certain. Creates brand new abilities for Lanfear, changes entire character arcs. And basically, the only things even related to the lore are throwaway side comments or the occasional reference to a stone. Which promptly contradicted the events of the series. Welcome to Wheel of Time people! The aim is to catch up with the rest of the episodes before the finale on Friday. So let me know your thoughts on what you saw of this train crash down below, and as always, thanks for watching :)

Idk how legal rights work around showing artwork on YT, but I think the Aviendha casting point you made could have been a little stronger if you'd shown several different artists' renderings, because I *know* most people didn't get Rafe's image from Jordan's description and there are probably some dorks out there who think you cherry-picked. As always, thanks again for standing up for Wheel of Time fans. Jordan deserved better.

You know what made the Forsaken intimidating? The fact that every dark friend would grovel and beg despite how narcissistic and egotistical they were. Or in the few cases of the over confident, they were immediately put in their place and lucky to be alive. Suroth should be walking on eggshells, Ishamael has the Dark One backing him up and could destroy her on a whim. She is only a convenience to him, a tool that happens to be useful, but has no other value. That scene between the two is incredibly damaging to Ishamael’s character because why should the audience respect Ishamael if his own subordinates don’t?

A correction, in the book Faine gives Turak the chest and tries to negotiate some pull in exchange for opening it when his ally arrives. Turak then opens the chest in front of him and removes the horn(these chests are rare, but there's a few in Seanchan. Anyone who knows the mechanism, which is not a piss easy wheel, can open it. Moiraine, Lanfear and Turak all open it at some point.) It pisses Faine off that he keeps the horn and dagger both, and uses them as bait for Rand. He doesn't blow the horn because he's so loyal to his Empress, the horn is for her, which is consistent with how loyal these people are. However the real problem, is that ISHAMAEL IS RIGHT THERE! WHY WOULD HE NOT JUST TAKE THE HORN FOR HIMSELF!? He didn't have the opportunity in the books, because HE WOULD AND THEY WOULD NEVER GET IT BACK! Ishamael was also super injured AND Lanfear was clearly interfering. She WANTS Rand to use the horn for her own schemes. The Forsaken play against the light, but also against each other ALL the time. Lanfear teleports Rand into another dimension to give him a chance to swipe the horn back, and to ingratiate herself with him of course. It's all masterful. BUT IN THIS ISHAMAEL IS RIGHT THERE AND DELIVERS IT PERSONALLY!? TO A GUY THAT JUST FUCKING SAID HE'S AGAINST THE SHADOW!? WHYYYYYYYYYY!?

Just double checked my book, and there are some things you got wrong. Both Elayne and Min tagged along and were at Falme. More than one person could open the chest. It was more of a puzzle box than a proper lock box. Fain took it to Turak because he needed someone to open it, as someone else had put the dagger in there. And because he wanted to corrupt a potential ruler. For his part, Turak refused to blow the horn because he respected the hierarchy of the Seanchan. He was actually loyal to his empress and planned to send the Horn to her, to let her decide what reward if any he received. As FUBAR as the Seanchan worldview is, Turak showed genuine virtue in the time he was with us. It was an interesting mirror to Lord Ingtar's arc in the same book.

Fain took it to Turak to gain his favor. He didn't expect Turak to open it, because he wanted to be able to gain more favor with Turak by opening it himself. He wasn't loyal to the empress. He says he isn't going to blow the horn, because it would put him in a position to take the throne, and he didn't want to deal with the extra hassle of everyone currently in front of him trying to kill him. He doesn't show virtue, but he does show wisdom. And I'll take that

Then she gets though the oaths she gave to the dark one. She finds a loop hole where on the hour of her death she can betray him. She then poison herself giving Egwene her notes which to purge the black ajah and dies. And as she dies says basically though black stains my name my heart was always brown. And a very touching part were egwene responds its as white as the light. The entire series she helps the boys fight the dark one behind the scenes as the ultimate double agent. Always helping the light by loopholes and such. Its ao fantastic. I dont see the super spy and as disparu says. Is because she is so low key no one suspects. Sometimes the writing of this series reminds me of "The Tick," a goofy animated show when I was a kid. They would take questions from the audience and have The Tick answer them periodically. My absolute favorite, which I always remembered, was this exchange: Q: "If you were rolling down an ocean on a jet ski and the wheel came off, would it take the same number of pancakes to cover a doghouse?" A: "Purple. Because ice cream has no bones." But of course, things were goofy in The Tick on purpose, and there was a lot of hilarious absurdist humor. On "Wheel of Time," it doesn't make sense and isn't funny. Still, I wonder if eventually we might hear the "far-seeing," "all-knowing," and above all non-informative, answer to a simple question at some point be, "Because ice cream has no bones."

Elayne was there in the books when they were handed over to the Seanchan by Liandrin. Arguably, she is the reason she & Nynaeve escaped, because the Seanchan came prepared to take custody of two women, rather than three. But Nynaeve did channel and she and Elayne were able to escape, separately, only finding each other after the Seanchan had left.

The bane of Time is taking a knee, for it forces the opposing team to use a time out to stop the clock long enough to set up for their next play. The most well known in american football for taking a knee is Colin Kapernick. Hence, Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time becomes Amazon's gritty reality television show The Speedbump of Colin Kapernick.

As always, terrific work, my friend. If I may, it is indeed Turak who opens the chest (which, by the way, was so large and heavy only Loial or a trolloc could carry it), containing the Horn and Mat's dagger. So that tiny bit of the lore was matched, amongst all the obviously stupid "adaptations" you have enumerated. As for Lanfear killing the horseman, she does kill at a whim, one time by making a wire-thin weave of air and slicing off a man's head. I guess they couldn't be bothered to re-create that visually in this high-budget "epic", so they went with a CGI'd Ghallager watermelon smash. As for Ishamael/Suroth, the entire thing is idiocy. Ishamael may have set in motion the infancy of the Seanchan empire by sending Luthair Pendrag across the Aryth Ocean, but it is Semirhage who is the currently controlling forsaken (Anath, Tuon's Voice), and they do not interfere with each other in this way. About Ryma, she does exist, but at this point of the story she is already collared, and renamed Pura as a damane. She is completely broken, and becomes Suroth's pet, shown off to Westland rulers to prove they can beat even Aes Sedai.

Why was Aviendha in the one in the cage? Perrin rescues Gual from the cage which starts to change Gaul's outlook of "wet landers" and Faile watches him do it..which is how they meet and starts her attachment to him..(Aviendha has own similar encounter but with Nynaeve) I swear, this director has no clue that changing little things completely screws entire characters and plot lines. "Ah it's ok is Rand sleeps with Selene, that won't change anything" - yeah except altering Rand's morals and screws characters development and plotlines for FIVE other characters... The Seanchan treat women who can channel with respect? HA! They keep them on literal leashes and in some cases, treat them like actual dogs or at least the same level the average person has a relationship with their dogs IE give them pats on the head and toys and accessories for being good...the entire mentality of a Damane is the greatest example of slavery mixed with Stockholm syndrome. "They train for years" - by training you mean being punished, humiliated and beaten into submission..

It used to a top tier dream to have a studio want to adapt your work, NOW I'd be absolutely terrified if Hollywood was determined to get the rights on my life's work as Amazon especially likes to do. Anvaere is the actual name of Moiraine's OLDER sister, who does not appear in the main series, but was referred to in New Spring. She is not a fake sister. That being said, Barthanes Damodred is the actual head of House Damodred in Book 2, he is not Moiraine's nephew, nor Anvaere's son. He is some sort of distant cousin to them. He is also middle aged. Moiraine is 42 at this point in the books. She is not old enough to have a younger sister with a full-grown son. Or at least not old enough to have a younger sister with gray hair. For the record, Lindsey Duncan, who plays Moiraine's sister, is 72. She's almost too old to have a son the age of Barthanes. She's barely young enough to be the mother of the actor, who is clearly playing a much younger man, with his naivete and infantile relationship with Moiraine.

Regarding the characterizations of the Forsaken in Lanfear's little rant, Moghedian is not insane, even if she isn't really a master strategist and manipulator (that's Graendal), but she is the ultimate survivor. Another Forsaken would be more likely to characterize her as a cockroach, but her name is the term for a species of spider from their time period, that was very small, hard to see and very deadly. Graendal, meanwhile, postured as a vain idiot, but as I said, was a master manipulator and strategist. The issue here is, Lanfear COULD have been taken in by the ruse and be mistaken, and the funny thing is, that is totally in character for Lanfear, who herself, is a loose cannon and one of the most incompetent Forsaken. Literally every plot she comes up with backfires on her, she is severely lacking in self-control in ways that prove detrimental to her. Everyone she tries to manipulate to serve her agenda not only does not serve her purposes, but actually goes behind her back to run his own game and come away with a win on his own, or at least be ready for her inevitable betrayal. But I don't think Rafe & co realize this. I think they really believe that Lanfear is the most dangerous of the Forsaken. Also, she scoffs about "the boys" not being able to execute a plan, but the male Forsaken include Demandred, Rahvin & Sammael who successfully took control of powerful countries without anyone knowing the truth, Bel'al who was known as "the Netweaver", Aginor, a brilliant mad scientist who genetically engineered Trollocs and other Shadowspawn, Asmodean, who outsmarts Lanfear in the books and almost gets control of her, except Rand outsmarted them both. The dummy of "the boys" is Balthamel, who managed to carry out an undercover ruse in the heart of the Aes Sedai, as the personal advisor to their leader, who believed Balthamel's persona to be a good friend she could confide in. By contrast, Lanfear is over-the-top when she tries to go undercover that the only way Rand is fooled by her guise is that she brought along a decoy who basically acts just like Lanfear would, so he was confused as whether or not the pretty skank who was hitting on him all the time was Lanfear, or if she was disguised as the fat lady who was always telling Rand that he should accept her bargains, and showed a lot of interest in his love life, and moved too fast and too easily for a morbidly obese woman. That's Lanfear's idea of cunning - create a fat lady illusion around herself, but don't even bother to act like she's truly heavy. If you read between the lines, her fellow Forsaken don't even take her seriously, sniggering behind her back at her crush on Lews Therin/Rand and her obsession with him. Graendal actually gives her shit to her face about it. Lanfear gets so pissed that she actually seems like she is about to throw down with the other woman, despite one of their rivals in the room and ready to pounce as soon as they are distracted, to kill both of them. Lanfear is hilariously incompetent, and the other Forsaken who are close to her on the incompetence scale are Semirhage and Mesaana, two other women. Both of whom are slightly more effective in their undercover roles than Lanfear ever manages.

loved the video but you did get a couple of things wrong. Firstly, High Lord Turak was given the Horn of Valere by Padan Fain and he did open the case that it was held in. He didn't want to blow it because the empress would've probably taken his head. Secondly, Elaine did travel with Min, Nyneve and egwene to Falme, she managed to escape with Nyneve whilst the other two were captured. I only know this because i'm in the process of rereading the novels.

The showrunners would have been better served not to claim this was another turning of the Wheel (which would have been a different time, age, with different characters and nations) and instead called it one of the Worlds of If accessed via the portal stones. Then all of these exceptions to the lore would actually make sense.

Seeing reviewers claiming this episode somehow is redeeming the show blows my mind. The show absolutely cannot be redeemed at this point. All the major characters have been assassinated. Major plot points have been disregarded in favor of made up drivel. May the dark one take the showrunners to the pits of Shayol Ghul.

About the Horn.... what did Hawkwing say to Mat during the Last Battle? No, I'm not going to answer that question. Read the books, and pay attention when you get there. I will say that I can't be bothered to care about the Horn in the way that this show's creators might want.

Actually Disparu I have to disagree with one part : - in the books High Lord Turak did indeed know how to open that box, but he does reject the use of the Horn and Promises to send it to the Empress to whom he is both Loyal and frightened. The rest is a horrific abomination. Especially the whole Suroth thing - in the books she was punished and whilst she might scream and plot in private the few people that insulted the Forsaken to their face generally ended up going very badly for them. The Ishmael from the books would probably have burnt Suroth alive after the first word in the tone she used.

I really hate doing this because it means saying something positive about this abomination of a series. But Turak could open the box, he could because there were similar ones in Seandar, but he is a loyal follower of the Empress (may she live forever) and chose to be respectful and planned to hand it her and let her blow the horn. This partially is because of the literal snowstorm of spies that are infesting all of Seanchan who can and do regularly strip people as high as Turak of all their status, brand them with a Raven tattoo and condemn all their families to Da'covale slavery for the slightest of insults.

I forgot about the secret police. But it wouldn't have been a mere branding Turak got, because if he blew the Horn the empress could not until Turak was dead. He _might_ have lasted long enough to deliver the Horn, just because then the Seanchan wouldn't have had to worry about anyone else becoming bound to the Horn.

I hate what theyve done to the Seanchan culture. I hate that they've made surith some attention seeking spoilt brat. Its like how theyve reduced lanfear as well (to basically just butt hurt coz she got dumped by a boy, she fcuking whines about it long enough inthe show) . Both those women are superbly ambitious power hungry go getters and pretty fxuking badass already but ultimately evil and willing to do the most to get what they want. . But the thing is the whole point of the book is that in order for good to be redemptive we need evil to contrast. Thats why we have choice and will power. Thats why two sides of the one power. Its compare and contrast. Not this fcuking shades of gray nonsense. So why reduce suroth and lanfear why try to justify liadrin. Can people not just choose to do the wrong thing. Can people just not give zero fxuks about other people. Like suroths Character takes so much away from how the Seanchan view power, how they aquire it and also lest we forget t lose it as well, how absolutely fantastic they are as colonizers how effecient and controlled and powerful they are as an enemy

@@yogurl6004 I wish there was a more complex reason for the idea of giving each of the characters you've mentioned reasons for their behaviour but the reality is simple in how they see it. If a woman does something bad, the reason is that it's a man's fault ultimately, it cannot be that they themselves are bad people. The idea comes from the "don't blame me for things" culture where even questioning a woman is seen as an attack, so Rafe and the writers HAVE to make them sympathetic as if they don't - in their own minds - they will be saying "women are always to blame for what happens to them." It's just insane in the end.
