Robyn Hood Review of Season 1 Episode 2 of the Canadian Robin Hood remake by DirectorX. The accidental comedy of this show is the primary entertainment of the show because the plot and the characters certainly aren't. Featuring a gang of criminals fighting off an innocent businessman just trying to improve the city, they avoid justice once more by committing even more crimes, to avoid accountability for the ones they committed last week. If this is the 2nd episode, I don't see how their plot will even last out the remaining weeks, but the quality dropping off a cliff at this point seems certain. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

That's because Director Ex- Lax and the writers have no real moral core to guide them or give them a healthy understanding of right and wrong, good and evil. As further proof, just look at what they did to "Tuck" in this: They changed/ perverted him from the often- drunk yet also jolly, good- natured, and sincerely holy Christian friar he is in the real story and its faithful adaptations, into a perpetually- stoned hacker weirdo and drug dealer who spouts/ espouses bizarre pseudo- New Age ramblings, a belief system clearly devoid of any of those "icky" commandments, moral dictates, and other promotions of general human decency that Christianity has. That's the only sort of religion that radical SJWs like Director Ex- Lax and his ilk can get behind: One that makes them feel "Spiritual," but doesn't provide them with any kind of moral compass, concept of the afterlife/ eternity, or concept of a higher power, and lets them worship themselves instead. This narcissistic, self- absorbed belief system is also evident in how ridiculously thin- skinned Director Ex- Lax has proven to be, slinging vicious yet childish insults and baseless accusations of racism at any who dare criticize the show; It's caused his ego to become so bloated and yet so fragile that any criticism of his work drives him into a foaming frenzy. Fortunately, all that means I won't have to worry about him stinking up Heaven with his foul, obnoxious presence; He and those like him will instead go somewhere MUCH hotter, which is jam- packed with people just as narcissistic and self- absorbed as he is.

In case your curious, here are the crimes that have been committed by our “protagonists” in the first two episodes: loitering, breaking and entering, assault, battery, theft that would be easily consider grand larceny in the US, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, kidnapping, destruction of public property, hacking, impersonation, and several other crimes I’m sure I forgot. I look forward to the finale where they commit murder.

The problem I have with this show, and I've mentioned it in a few different comments, is that it misses that Robin Hood exists in a very specific context. Among other things one has to remember is that the key to the whole story is that Robin Hood isn't even a criminal. See, the entire legend goes back to the ideas that lead to someone being called "noble" being a positive thing. Robin Hood was a noble, Robin Of Loxley, who went to fight in The Crusades overseas, who returned to find England largely usurped due to bloodlines and politics by a prince with primary loyalties to France who has a long history of animosity with England. This was possible because King Richard The Lionheart was being held prisoner by the Muslims (loosely based on reality). Prince John has put a bunch of Norman (French) Nobles into power, and is oppressing the Saxons (English) by forcing unreasonable taxes on them, part of which he pockets, and even more of which he is sending to the French crown, meaning he's literally taxing them in the name of a foreign power with a history of animosity. When Robin returns and objects, Prince John declares him an outlaw, but being a noble in the idealistic sense he refuses to be imprisoned and starts doing things like robbing tax collectors and returning the money to the people. This is why "The Sheriff Of Nottingham" is a major villain of the narrative, as he was the local tax collector. He wasn't acting out of socialist principle, and arguably was in the right because this was his land, and he was defending his people, according to his oath. This is why when King Richard returns he boots Prince John and simply returns Robin's land and titles to him, declaring him a hero (in many versions). The problem with Robyn Hood is that Director X probably just heard "he's a guy who robs from the rich and gives to the poor" so decides to make some kind of racial social justice thing where black criminality is supposed to be justified by them not having money and targeting rich people. He tries to insert some vague metaphor about gentrification, but shows he doesn't understand the issues as his alleged heroes actually represent the entire problem that justify it, and that has nothing to do with skin color by the way. Robocop has a pretty nuanced take on that for the campy and sometimes comedic work it was, and actually showed all sides of the issue, while still painting OCP as the bad guys. This is because Edward Neumeier Michael Miner who wrote it actually understood what he was talking about, in addition to having a framing device that was entertaining to explore those issues. By having Robocop originally conditioned to follow the orders of OCP, he does a good job of showing what the situation looks like from their perspective, even if they are obviously going way too far in doing things like making the problems even worse to justify increasingly extreme actions. OCP was a good bad guy for the type of movies (and other material) these were, as their motives actually made sense, and you could even understand how as bad as many of them were they could justify even their own greed in a sort of "greater good" sense as they felt they would ultimately benefit people by making Detroit better in the end. This is way too long again, but this is pretty much why they shouldn't be giving a music video director gigs on TV and movies like this, they keep failing for a reason. The most humiliating part of this is that DirectorX is mostly famous for the music stuff, and there is no excuse for why the hip hop bits are the most cringe worthy part, as even by the intended standards that is just terrible. That's supposed to be his thing, and if nothing else we should be saying "well the show is terrible, but it had a catchy sound track" and well, clearly that isn't happening. If nothing else the producers over him should notice this and give him the boot, and to be honest at this point I wouldn't even trust him to do videos anymore.

An important thing to remember about Robin Hood that he was a yeoman; that is, he was upper middle class, and land owner. He made a point of not robbing anyone of equal or lower status than himself, and would only go after nobles when he felt they were abusing their power....usually by robbing their tax collectors. He gave the tax money back to the people because most of them were beneath him and he had a noblesse oblige to look out for them. He did not oppose the system; he had problems with people who were abusing the system. In short, he was nothing like the dirty crooks presented here.

"Eat the rich" - but that isn't what your show is telling me, it's telling me your "heroes" are useless, awful people who should be in jail.. You also can't use the pathetic victimhood mentality in a Robbin Hood story, it just doesn't work, you can't be the victim, steal, rob and assault people...and then still claim to be a victim... Like she didn’t even cover for her cop that shot Robyn’s mom nor did she have any scene telling her men to just sack Sherwood and spare no people of violence. I used to be active in a lot of writing communities, and while many people were toxic elitists a common sentiment about writing was made quite frequently: Anyone can write, but everyone has their own skill level. It's easy for a skilled, intelligent writer to write a stupid character who is entertaining, because they have talent and skill, and it's easy to turn your brain down a bit. An unintelligent writer, however, cannot write an intelligent character. It's a frame of reference they are not able to put themselves in, because it requires them to put themselves into a frame of reference they are unable to enter. They will always write a smart character poorly, because they are unable to understand what makes them smart. Because of this, writers need to play to their strengths, and know when to limit themselves. I see this more and more often with media. Writers and directors do not know how to write anything outside of a very narrow, biased scope that they produce the most obnoxious, poorly written characters because they simply put do not know how to write anyone that is not themselves. We've entered an age where shitty fanfic writers write shitty fanfic level media, and are confused when they get the same response as their shitty fanfic did because they had some big budget behind it.

Throughout the entire review I just couldn't get over the incredibly stupid thing the director said. Who in the hell uses how they rate movies or tv shows as an ice breaker to anyone, let alone a potential romantic partner?! How desperate is he to attack his critics that this is the best connection his crippled brain could come up with? At this point I wish Az would do an interview with him, just to get him to explain this to us. I have to know, it's hurting my brain thinking about it and I just can't move on from this.

I was thinking about this show today, and realized "Robin Hood" worked because it is the story of a gentleman - or at least a yeoman. He was a law abiding and productive member of society. He was a talented archer and swordsman, and in some legends he served his time in the Crusades. He was NOT a criminal to begin with. He had a deep and abiding respect and loyalty to King Richard, and was fighting the "unjust" rule of King John, Richard's brother. He was FORCED into the life of the outlaw, but never lost his bearings. He did NOT embrace the "thug life." That's why this "retelling" doesn't work. Robyn is neither noble, educated, nor productive. Her loyalty is questionable, her goal is "vengeance" at this point, and her nemesis is FOLLOWING the law as far as we know. I know there are rumors John Prince is dirty, but they have done nothing to SHOW us he is any more than a blustering businessman who uses threats and "the law" to get his way - even with his own children. We don't have an educated, virtuous character forced into a life of crime by circumstances around her. We have a narcissistic petty thug who is fighting "the system" which is providing support for her and her family as long as she obeys the rules. It's NOT a heroic struggle - it's petty crime that moves on to major crimes.

Because, apparently he has no idea what role “sheriffs” actually play in Canada. I was genuinely curious if Canadia even *HAD* the department/title/position of “sheriff” and here’s what I learned in about 20 seconds: _{Canada. With the exception of Ontario, every province and territory in Canada operates a sheriffs service. In most of Canada, sheriffs are almost exclusively concerned with courtroom security, post-arrest offender transfer, the serving of legal processes, and the execution of civil judgments}._ So it appears the *”Sheriff departments”* don’t even _DO_ any of this in Canada!! They are almost exclusively court staff and civil gophers! This “director” is an absolute _clown show!!_ Geeeezus! 🤣🤦‍♀️

As nobody saw anyone enter or exit the building, or climb it (and nobody knows about the spacious and well-lit tunnel system), will conclude that the criminals live in the tower block.
