Whatz It Feel Like: The toll of parenting a child with anxiety

Laura is the creator of Whatz It Feel Like. She describes the emotional rollercoaster of parenting a child with severe anxiety. Her daughter's anxiety often manifested with vomiting so by the time she was five she had thrown up about 400 times. There were constant tantrums and life was very difficult before they sought out help. Laura opens up about the effect of the anxiety on the whole family and the feelings of failure that can often come with parenting a child who struggles with mental health. Brooke is now 10 and managing her anxiety with mediation and therapy.

My anxiety makes me really mean sometimes and what she’s saying makes me feel bad for my mom.. I wish I didn’t have to make her deal with this, because I know how exhausting it is. I’m thankful to have her support through it all

I am the mom in that video. We love our children NO MATTER WHAT. We will do anything for our children. All we want is happiness for our children.

My anxiety makes me feel like those movie scenes, when your looking at an actor head on in fishbowl lens, and they’re breathing hard, and heart is racing, and your head starts to hurt, and you start fidgeting, and then you throw up. It’s the worst. Sometimes I feel like bursting out of my skin into a million pieces just so I can feel the crisp air. Idk

This is a non-story. Whatever this family went through was a hundred times worse for the child actually suffering with anxiety. As a parent it is YOUR job to adapt and deal. I do not feel for you. Like really? "WE struggle?" You do not struggle, I promise. SHE struggles.
