Whatever happened to Gotye?
Музыка
In 2011, independent Australian singer-songwriter Goyte, quietly released a song called ‘Somebody That I Used to Know,’ on a small independent label. That little song with a low-budget video went on to top the charts all around the world (including the UK & US) and became one of the biggest hits of the entire 2010s decade. But just as soon as Gotye arrived on the music scene, he seemed to disappear again, just as quickly.
So who exactly was this enigmatic singer-songwriter and where did he seemingly vanish to? Why didn’t he try to capitalise on his new found fame and success back in 2012? Did be retire from the industry? Is it really true, he turned down millions for his music? And can we ever expect another album from him in the future? This mini-documentary explores all these questions and more.

its respectable how true and committed he is to art and expression instead of aiming for industry dominance, honestly if he had gone that route i think he could be in a place now where Jack Antonoff is, creating hits for popstars both commercial and alternative

you're probably right - he doesn't seem to think like that at all though.
I'm glad he's still doing something he loves, making music.

Oh good to hear 😀😀
Such timing! I’ve been asking myself that very question the last few weeks. Although, knowing how dedicated he was to his art, and appeared visibly uncomfortable with the intense public reaction to STIUTK, the attention, the awards, etc, etc, it has really come as no surprise that he ended up shrinking away from the spotlight, likely having jam sessions in his friends’ backyards...

This song was so massive! I still listen to every word when it comes on the radio in the USA, and the video was so unique. I bought the album it was on but “Somebody I used to know” is by far my favorite. Thanks for posting this video! (But I think you forgot an edit near the very end.)
Loved this Jonny!

The mistake is to measure Wally's music and artistry with what the American market wants and that it bubble gum pop/rock music that will be forgotten. Wally is a genius and he has never cared about fame. He loves making music and he loves The Basics members. So he will probably make music with them until they can't anymore.
Making Mirrors is such a fantastic album

Just a small tip, the background music is kind of distracting. I think your commentary trumps any need for a background music.

thanks for the feedback - it sounded fine, when I listened back. But maybe I left it too loud this time?

@@jonnyharvey The volume is completely fine. Perhaps it's a personal preference since I have ADHD, and any background noise just makes it harder for me to concentrate on the voiceover. Also the background music makes it sound like it's an infomercial or a celebrity gossip video. I checked the kind of videos you post and subscribed and felt it's not gossipy type of content. So I think a little bit of background music at the start and end is fine.
He is skipping in a frosty tundra of barely alive daisies with James Blunt, somewhere. Beck and Chris Martin silently smile at each other and cling their tea cups together watching their offspring play among the wild flora.
How did you turn Gotye into Goytyey 😭😭😭

I thought I pronounced reasonably well. Apologies if I got it wrong. It is a French name & he just spells it his own way

If it's his version of the name Gautier, the French pronounce it more like Goatyeh. That isn't perfect either, but I hope it's a little closer.
