What You Need To Know Before Shopping At Trader Joe's

Ойын-сауық

Trader Joe’s has become one of the most popular grocery stores in the country in recent years, as people love their low prices and laid-back atmosphere. However, even if you’re a regular shopper at this store, there might be a lot you don’t know about its history and policies. The store has become infamous for their crowded parking lots, but they actually aren’t as bad as you might think, and there is one thing that you can always find in the store, no matter what. Let’s take a look at what you should know before shopping at Trader Joe’s again.

Mashed.... I saw your video about Aldi's and how you made a point about Aldi's short-staff reputation. But every time I go to a Trader Joe's there are always lots of staff.I always go at peak times, though. I am guessing that there are many peak time part-timers,so that the stores do not have to provide health and vacation benefits to the majority of their staff. True or not ? BTW great new channel. Subbed.

Fourthgirl Amazing ! German owned TJ's provides health insurance to PT staff ! Most American companies would never do that. Germany was the first nation in the world to provide retirement pensions, universal health care, unemployment insurance and paid leave maybe as far back as the late 19th century.

On a note: one of the TJ's here in Santa Rosa, CA just burned out in the wildfires. Unlike other companies sharing the same fate, TJ's kept all employees and moved them to other close by stores. Of course those stores now get more business from the customers not able to shop at the destroyed location, I still thought it says something about TJ's that they care about their employees a bit more than other employers. TJ's will continue to get my business although now the closest location is considerably farther than it used to be.

Try Aldis! They're also really good and as said in the video, they own Trader Joes. On the outside of my local Aldi, they boast a realy good pay of $12.50 or $13.00 an hour (It's either of those two prices, I can't quite remember.) I've been shopping at my Aldi's for 10 years now, and many of the same employees I originally met are still working there. They also, not surprisingly, have many of the same products for cheaper. I guess an example would be their chocolate. I bought a container of TJ's Peanut butter cups and some of their chocolate peanuts, and found that they were the exact same product that Aldi carries but with a different label. If there isn't an Aldi in your areas, I would still recommend it if you ever come across one!

I actually worked at the store that got messed up in the fire but transferred a few months before the fire. I transferred and still work at the currently operating store. I love it. Customers are always saying they are sympathetic to what we have to "deal with". Meaning the increased crowd. The crowd makes the day go by and we are honestly like a family at traders. We all love our job and I have so much support from my fellow crew members and I love the mates. I cannot be prouder to work for this company and with the people I work with. Btw. No we still have no idea when the store will reopen.

I immediately grilled it once I purchased it and cutting it into pieces after it was cooked I found maggots!!! and another time I bought a black bean burrito and there was an actual necklace bean in it and it hurt the hell out of tooth. all trader joes would do is refund me. also, never buy their dog vitamins. my dog immediately had allergic reactions so I researched the ingredients. I forget the ingredient names and I only looked up a few, but their vitamin source is actually crushed up sea shells!!! and the filler they use is proven to give dogs cancer.

Earl Rogers my Trader Joe's is competitive; I have found items cheaper than the larger groceries and slightly more expensive (not only beer and wine). And they carry nice selection of organic, bulk, quality, and ethic foods...thier cut flowers are more reasonable $ too. I've been able to get no salt tortilla chips there, where at other groceries they cost an arm and a leg.

The first Trader Joe's was and still is in Pasadena on Arroyo Seco Parkway. The street is just a few blocks from the end of what we call "The Pasadena Freeway" or US Highway 110 headed north. My dad started us shopping at Trader Joe's when they opened a store in city of Alhambra, just south of Mission Road and across the tracks. The store they started there before that was a huge liquor store with a delicatessen. I remember the old days when about half of what the original stores were selling were inexpensive wines and beers from local micro-breweries, along with stuff, like California cheeses, especially white cheddar cheese. It was explained in their newsletter. "The Frequent Flyer," that cheddar cheese is naturally white and that orage colored food coloring is added to mek the cheese look yellowish orange.

Watch out for the Union Square location in NYC, its notorious... I went recently at 9:30pm, they had all 24 checkouts staffed and there were two separate checkout lines winding around the store each with a 15 minute wait. I hear people often go to the store in pairs, one gets in line as soon as they walk in and the other shops for the food.

I was very impressed by their reasonable prices. You could push down the 'frozen' salmon. The manager (again) dismissed my concern until I told him I had planned to call the Health inspectors. Tarps were placed over that section, until I left. I returned in 15 minutes and they were again trying to sell the defrosted "frozen" foods. Never returned.

The parking lots are annoying as shit on a shoe, though. When their stores are on a busy highway, people can't pull out right away but other vehicles start coming in. This creates a gridlock and prevents parked vehicles from being able to back up and provide space to new arrivals. If the average grocer provides 100 spaces too many, I would say Trader Joe's is typically 6-12 short. It's not a huge deficit, but enough to keep me away most times I'm passing by (on my way to the larger grocer down the street). Plus, if you live in a larger city/town, even large parking lots are very well utilized. When I think of parking lots that are bigger than they need to be, in my experience, they've been in more rural areas. But in some cases, those parking lots then double as space for community events. This is speculative, but I would presume it also then creates tension with neighboring small businesses that have their spots taken up during the prime shopping times.

Trader Joe's is a great place to shop. As far as parking goes, in Columbia, Md, parking is not the greatest. It's tight. In Annapolis, I can drive around a little more easy.

Tim Liao we don't like our customers to feel like they are not trusted so we have no security cameras unless regulated by law. We also do not lock up expensive items for this reason. You will notice the expensive alcohol and vitamins are all out with no case to protect from thieves.

Koalas are also an option for the store mascot. My store, Store #63, has our Koala, which if one finds it, is given a lollipop at the front desk. Next time you’re at your local Trader Joe’s, ask what’s the store mascot, along with a hint on where to find it in the store. We’ll be happy to help !

I ALWAYS save the receipt---so I am taking these wings back for a full refund today. ALL grocery stores have return policies! I have NEVER needed to return an item to Trader Joe's! NEVER EVER in almost 20 yrs! 😜

They don't make products. They make bulk buys from existing manufacturers, sometimes they have the recipe altered to meet their preferences, but they don't manufacture. Existing producers run a production line with a different label. i.e. Kettle chips makes some of their chips, and puts them in a Trader Joe's bag. TJ's gets the product at a lower price because they don't pay for or receive benefits from the brands marketing efforts and label recognition. Their products are made all over the country and all over the world. Current labeling laws only require country of origin on imported items. Items without a "product of" label can only be from the USA and in those cases it is not required to list where in the US.

4 or 5 years ago I wish I would have known about their return policy. I bought their brand of a single-malt scotch and it was disgusting. I had my dad taste it, because in his bachelor days he was a scotch drinker, and he said that's how single-malt scotch is suppose to taste. How anyone likes bitter is beyond me. I don't drink a lot of scotch but since then I've stuck to blended scotch. As for that bottle of single-malt scotch, I couldn't give it away, my dad wouldn't even take it, eventually I tossed it. What a waste.

1:46 - "Need something to keep the kids busy while you do your shopping? Send them on a hunt for the hidden lobster." Somehow I don't think the person that wrote that in the script has kids. I don't have kids but even I know you should NEVER let your kids out of your sight in a public store. Not only can they get kidnapped but they are also bound to do something in the store that is going to get them in trouble.

My husband has worked at a Trader Joe's in Nashville and a Trader Joe's in Jacksonville Beach. The difference between how the regional managers handle their stores is like night and day. I'd have the FL regional manager's butt in court for her job due to sexism if it wasn't for my husband not wanting to make a stink.
